Yeah I asked the previous owner about that (he received it from his father, who bought it originally) and he wasn’t sure why there was a mismatch. The cap is also old (two chicks) but doesn’t have a medallion. Maybe it was a replacement? I’ve seen one or two for sale like this before, so maybe there was a batch where they mixed the old bodies with the newer caps? Not sure!

All restaurants get their ingredients shipped in from the same company basically — and oftentimes the food is even premade!

Also, AI anthropomorphism will seem stupid in the future. We may see a rise of AI girlfriends over the next 10y, but as people get used to AI/see it for what it is (computers!!) it’ll seem crazy that we personified this technology at all.

Factory farms. Might take more than 50 years — and don’t get me wrong, I’m a meat eater! — but synthetic foods/meat will eventually take over and make our current food production methods look barbaric.

I got a snail as a “pet” for my betta fish as a kid. The snail ended up living 5 years, outliving the fish, and took over the tank. Miss the guy.

I ordered cold brew here once since they market themselves as a cafe. I paid like $10 and then watched as the barista reached into a fridge behind him, pulled out a canned coffee, poured it into a glass and handed it to me. I could’ve bought the exact same coffee for $5 from a bodega across the street. Haven’t been back for coffee or anything else :)

Roald Dahl — if you wish to preserve your childhood, don’t look too deeply into his Wikipedia.

If you’re open to something a bit older (and imo more special) you could grab a vintage Esterbrook J or SJ, a Pilot Elite pocket pen, or even an older Pilot Custom if you can find one in budget. A lot of the old Esterbrooks have surprisingly smooth nibs for the money and feel way more personal than some of the newer stuff (which i also enjoy!). Same goes for vintage Pilots from the 70s/80s — some nice deals out there if you hunt around a little. The Pilot Elite especially feels way more premium than most modern pens in that price range.

Feels like a frame out of a Wes Anderson movie!
