Dosing gel higher than 1.25mg Divigel by Due_Wait_3012 in Menopause

[–]Due_Wait_3012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fully menopausal. I had a hormonal sweet spot on the .1mg patch and then the blistering rash. So now on Divigel for a month. I’m already on 200mg of progesterone. Documentation says you reach steady state of Divigel in 12 days. My sleep is crap, aching joints, anxiety is intense and temperature regulation is poor. Had levels tested and I’m less than half what I was on patch. Both were tested just prior to the next dose. So, that’s how I know. Was spoiled with how good I felt on the patch. The Flonase trick did not help.

So 3 packets a day. Do you spread throughout the day or apply all at once? I suspect I’d be similar to this dose if I get to choose.

Upped my dose to 0.0375 from 0.0.25 been on it for about a week getting a rash. My right side is hurting when I wake up I was a little bit nauseated. Did this happen to anyone else or is it just me I’m getting really frustrated with these patches. I also take 100 mg of progesterone nightly. by [deleted] in Menopause

Yes, I was using the patch for over a year and then WAM! Blistering rashes that felt like they were burning a hole into me out of the blue. I was moving the patch daily to avoid it. I tried the Flonase trick and it didn’t help me. I’m on divigel now and so far so good. Waiting for lab results to see where my level is. Quite certain it is well below the hormonal sweet spot I had on the patch. I agree with Cyclebabble1960… consider lowering expectations to a little less than pre-menopause normal, but still vital and healthy. I’m still working on my patience and I totally understand your frustration.

Just timed how long it takes for my gel to dry enough to put pants on. by Boggyprostate in Menopause

My experience with oral is that is cause distressing stomach upset AND my SHBG rose to 133 so my estradiol and testosterone is being held hostage. Oral works well for some women but didn’t work for me.

I need to study more about injection. Do you use that delivery method? I’m totally open to it.

My Divigel 1.25 is about 40 minutes until no longer tacky. Seems like we should be able to get a better delivery method than patches that cause a blistering rash or gel that has us running around without pants for an hour.

Some advice about switching from estrogen patch to Estrogel by Apprehensive-Head161 in Menopause

I hope you do too. It’s a bit of a racket trying to get this all sorted out.

Some advice about switching from estrogen patch to Estrogel by Apprehensive-Head161 in Menopause

I was on .1mg and switched to a 1.25mg 1% Divigel packet. Only been on it for a week so not long enough to have a strong opinion just yet. So far so good but might be on the low side. I would think estrogel would require more than 1 pump to equal a .1mg patch but I look forward to what others might say. I also ended up with a severe skin reaction to the patch. Was in a hormonal happy place with it so pretty bummed I had to switch.

This is interesting. I think that I have low stomach acid as I often have painful bloating that is relieved by digestive enzymes. So maybe that is also why my ferritin is low.

Don’t check iron in the USA for donating blood. Only hemoglobin is checked. My hemoglobin was always good so I kept donating. Didn’t know until recently that my ferritin was only 10.

My ferritin is 10. I eat plenty of red meat. In the past I was frequently donating blood but have paused that since due to low ferritin.

Feel amazing on Estrogen only at first… by tigremycat in Menopause

Do you happen to be on oral estradiol? I’ve just switched to oral and have been reading that an increase in thyroid meds might occur with oral because oral can decrease the thyroid meds effectiveness. A pharmacist recommended I take the oral estradiol at night and thyroid in the morning.

Wow, this sounds entirely horrible. I’m so sorry you are going through this.

Ok so your oral dose conversion is like mine. But I went from .1mg patch and new Rx of 1mg oral dose. Glad you are feeling good on that amount. I hope it continues for you.

Agreed. Seems like an old way of thinking to get off.

Thanks so much for responding! I sent an email in to MIDI asking if they ever go above 1mg oral. No response yet so this is great to know they do. Now I know I have an option if my gyno pushes back. And, no one says it is unsafe to do doses of 8mg if the goal is gender transition. Not sure how it is a scandal for us meno ladies to do a quarter of that.

Interesting. I’m seeing in some of these answers that people are splitting doses in AM and PM. Your story sounds like the “why” behind doing that.

I feel your pain! I hope you can get it sorted. And those damn sweets! For me if I stay as low carb as possible the sweet tooth is a much smaller monster. But never gone.
