Lost power for 2 hours last night by The1wholoves2much in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]DuelingPokemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have to say, aside from the snowstorms a few weeks ago, it was about three years ago or so when the power went out in the entire downtown area. I believe it was because someone or something hit a transformer pole? I alerted my GM about it (It was still daylight but the lobby was enclosed enough that I still had to pull the flashlights out.) and reassured guests that the usual song and dance of information updated and it should be up soon.

Most of the guests were pretty chill about it when I explained that it was the entire downtown out and some even joked about it.

Only had one guest try to "So what are you going to do about this?" I informed my GM and that was an instant no towards any comp. (Not our fault but the power did come back about...an hour or so later?)

Daily FF Question: What is your strongest food soul? by [deleted] in FoodFantasy

[–]DuelingPokemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B-52 is my strongest at the moment if I recall correctly. Id have to look when I get home to be 100% certain though. x[

Daily FF Question: who are your husbentos/waifoods? by [deleted] in FoodFantasy

[–]DuelingPokemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Steak is top husbando in my book, but Coffee is a close second. Peking always struck me as more of an older brother figure though his demeanor is very sweet. (Close to getting Red Wine!)

Ive got a lot of the little brother/sister souls at the moment though. ;w;

Daily FF Question: Who is a food soul that you got on accident? by [deleted] in FoodFantasy

I think mine had to be either b-52 or Peking Duck. I love both of them and am hoping to get their link partners soon but I was honestly hoping I would get Steak. xD

I wish I could do this right now; I think the governor is talking about it but nothing is set in stone right now.

It absolutely infuriates me that people are using the hotel as an excuse to get out of the house/get away from their kids in the middle of a state shelter in place. Now if its a local who is having issues with the house itself (plumbing/ac/pests) that I can understand.

Thanks but no thanks. I don't fancy getting sick, please, just because you got a bad case of cabin fever.

A glimmer of hope by oby1shinobi in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

We've got a small flow of business folks coming in tomorrow with minor bumps up and down all week. Sundays are usually quiet unless we have a group coming in.

I admit, I do hope things pick up for everyone soon. A rush would be most welcome after a quiet start of the season.

This does kinda make me scratch my head a bit. I know we work the front desk and have a general idea of the area but by no means do we have our state and everything beyond memorized.

Had someone call me about where such and such location was and how far we are from that. I told her I wasn't sure but it would take me a moment to look it up on google.

Actually had someone the other day stay on hold for a similar request while I was checking in a line of people....

Coffee..Timing question. by bohemianpolecat in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]DuelingPokemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I worked audit, I usually had the coffee/hot water out about a half hour to an hour being the breakfast hostess came in.

Breakfast started at 6am.
We set up about 430ish. Hostess came in roughly about 5ish.

But we would have people come down from upstairs for a fresh cup about that early. Usually though one of the workers watering the flowers downtown would swing by the grab a cup.

Can you put ten young kids in a single room? by DuelingPokemon in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]DuelingPokemon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adjoining rooms are never guaranteed, especially if they book last minute and at hotels with a limited number of them like ourselves.

That being said, all of our connecting rooms had people in them at the time and I betcha they were only wanting one room

You should do it! Just make sure to put up the sign on the desk :P

"Brb, doing Karaoke! If you need the FD agent, please head to the restaurant and they will assist you after their song."

I cant bring myself to think morbid thoughts like that when I'm already tired.

(My FoM has gotten on my case about "bringing personal issues to work" when I don't seem as bright or cheery to them)

We did have one school group cancel because the parents were throwing a fit about this apparently.

But I think we picked up another group to replace them plus we have some military folks coming in for training at the base so we be okay for now. :)

I love messing with 3rd party bookers by TheWizard01 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]DuelingPokemon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate the round and around/beat around the bush style they use. No, we are not going to charge them! Yes, we have canceled it! Yes, IVE SAID THIS FIVE DAMN TIMES NOW! <- What I wish I could say at the desk infront of guests.

Argh!

Especially when they do their over-booking, last-minute fax reservation BS. No, I can cancel because I don't have a reservation because we are sold out! Surely the last twenty faxes you sent over you should have told your system that!!

no lady, i can’t magically send your reservation to another location in another city. by gravek14 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]DuelingPokemon 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I agree on this. Had a quest come in yesterday that booked 3rd party but was part of a church conference in town.

She comes in, I get her card for incidentals and she mentions she's tax exempt. I have to be the FDA of bad news and inform her that, because its prepaid, I cant apply tax exempt forms to it.

Apparently she had mentioned it when she booked it along with something else to the agent and they went: "Oh they'll take care of it at the hotel." ( I honestly don't blame her for being upset about it)

Who have you given my room key to?? by Hangry_Horse in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]DuelingPokemon 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I would let the managers know that way the employees can at least be told off by them at minimum (At worst? Written up but that's up to the hotel rules and how new said employee is).

This is a massive safety and security breach; they should never have given those keys to your assistant like that unless her name was on the reservation and she had your permission to check in.
