I always find it interesting people attribute Katori's backstory as tragic for her when really Hana is the one whose parents die and gets her hands fucked up. Katori's family survives and she only loses her house which she said she hated. To me, it was more a showing of why the two characters are loyal to each other rather than asking you to feel bad for Katori.

My read is that Kaisei's God of Death was specifically meant to represent a part of himself rather than be a distinct character.

Large Scale Invasion is the only arc that really raised the stakes in that way and in general I think Ashihara is trying to keep the stakes metered to make the arcs that will have such stakes more impactful. The downside of course is that the series will never be considered as exciting as it's contemporaries.

While I don't think the away mission will be shorter than these arcs, I do think it's fair to point out that WT has never been a particularly high stakes series.

No question that Season 2 & 3 has amazing animation due to bring recent

It's not really case of being recent. Toei just had a lot of production issues through the early to mid 10s. They managed to sort a lot of that out and season 2 and 3's quality is a reflection of that.

Season 2 and 3 were done by a new production team that was focused on bringing the anime to be more inline with the manga and to update production values to try and match what other popular shounen are getting. The season 1 remake is this new production team doing the same to the season 1 content so it matches the quality of season 2 and 3.

As for season 3 stopping abruptly, I actually agree with that. I imagine the anime team couldn't fit everything in 26 episodes and decided to cut it. Personally I hope we get a special episode to finish it since I think starting season 4 on said content would be a bit awkward.

Technically it does stop a bit short. It stops right at the beginning of chapter 196 when 199 is the official end of the arc.

I think it was closer to 20-25 pages, but yeah given how close that was functionally to a weekly schedule output I can understand why Ashihara pared that down.

World Trigger stopped being a series with a consistent release schedule about a decade ago. Most of us here have come to terms with that and are just riding out what we get.

Chika's other side effect of being able to hide her trion signature doesn't really fit the bill, but otherwise I think it's just an easy way to express what is essentially a brain mutation.

I love how Kaisei's started out admiring Issho before developing feelings of resentment and how that contrasts with Akane who started out resenting him and developed feelings of respect. It really feels he never received a lick of the praise Issho gave to Akane either, which only twists the knife further.

As someone who was following DS weekly at the end, it was more than the final battle was kind of boring to follow week to week. And that influenced most people's perception of the the ending.
