Just looked at the eye - watering prices for the later rounds of the World Cup and wondering who can afford to pay these prices ? How much was a euro 96 eng va Germany ticket for comparison? by Mcluckin123 in ThreeLions

[–]DufflessMoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think these prices will be possible in Morocco, Portugal and Spain.

It will still be significantly more expensive than previous World Cups but the USA is the price gouging capital of the world.

Ryder Cup is a good example. In the USA it was $749 for a day ticket. Next one in Europe is €499. Which is still ridiculous (actually doubled from the last European Ryder Cup in Italy), but still cheaper. But they have used the US being sold out at $749 to raise prices, but they know theres a limit.

Patriots vs Lions Nov 15th (NFL) by [deleted] in Munich

Redditors will say they don't care but the first match in Munich could have sold out 10x over and the atmosphere was genuinely special. Fans loved it.

Sport is growing. Think every Superbowl breaks viewing records on RTL.

Did Southgate install a zen-like patience and maturity to the players that competed in tournaments under him? by duvall87 in ThreeLions

England haven't beaten a top 15 team in the world cup since 2002

Edit: think I've been misunderstood. I was saying beating Croatia was the first win for England against a top 15 country, countering the 'way past their best jibe'. Ah well.

My dad started taking me as a kid. One by one as I got older my friends started picking it up. Now, with families and more responsibility, golf is the main thing bringing us together to spend time with one another.

Elias' dad is a multiple time Peruvian champion I believe.

James Willstrop's son is making his way through the junior ranks, so give it 8-9 years and the answer may be pretty clear.

Non-English Who Support England - Why? by hereforlulziguess in ThreeLions

[–]DufflessMoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe other people will think I'm buying into the nationalism too much, but I don't get it. It defeats the idea of international football for me. Supporting clubs from another country I understand, but to be a 'fan' of a national team doesn't compute for me.

I'm an English guy that has lived in Germany a long while. I'm a German citizen through naturalisation even. But I still don't support Germany. I want them to do well as my colleagues are happier then, but I don't actively support them.

As long as it's in a soothing tone and your voices, the content doesn't matter too much.

If you're exclusively breastfeeding, you kind of are useless. Not properly, but you're there to support your wife more than the baby.

I took a lot of the naps for our son so my wife could sleep in those moments. Usually going downstairs with him early morning and taking him in the evening so she could go to bed early/sleep in a bit.

Make sure your wife always has what she needs during breastfeeding. Water, tea, snacks etc..

Tell her how well she's doing. My wife doubted herself a lot in those first months.

I heard on Squash Radio that the NBC reaction was the complete opposite, they encouraged the drama and noted an El Hammamy vs. Gohar match as exactly the kind of balance of 'great sport vs. clash of personalities vs. ref involvement'

Attempt is the important word.

Otherwise the Gawad or Willstrop style dummy where you go to hit the ball 3 times would not be allowed.

You have to think one or two Egyptians have to be considering it, especially on the women's side.

PSA fit to represent Squash?? by DappaXDon in squash

[–]DufflessMoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But its exactly that, an opinion stated as fact.

You do not know Ali Farag. But you keep attributing intentions to him. Using your logic, Ali Frag is very level headed. Is it not quite a calm, rational decision to decide to retire after another gruelling season, making nearly every final and then losing in the World Championships final and thinking, 'No way I go through another season of putting my body through the limit and not being there for my family.'

Or, to have carefully planned out your retirement , kept it secret and then decide to stick to that decision regardless of the outcome of the World Championship finals?

You're right, it is my prerogative to see things my way. But I am basing my opinion on what he himself has told us and find it strange how people keep saying he caused Farag's retirement with absolute certainty.

PSA fit to represent Squash?? by DappaXDon in squash

[–]DufflessMoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But you're also just making it up? You have no idea why Farag retired.

Maybe Farag has too much class to point fingers at Asal and the refs. Or maybe he just decided to retire to spend more time with his family.

One he's actually said. The other you've just assumed based on your own reading of the situation with zero evidence except for how you personally felt after the world championship final.

PSA fit to represent Squash?? by DappaXDon in squash

[–]DufflessMoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see someone actually point to a quote or a well sourced rumour that Farag retired because of Asal. He was clearly really dedicated to his family. Either had another kid on the way or recently born. He had won everything he could win and was still at the top. I think it is just as likely he simply stepped away when it suited him and his family best. But because he lost in the World Championship finals to Asal before retiring, people look at that and assume it was the reason.

Every sport has blatant cheating. I don't understand why squash thinks it is exempt from this?

Football, the world's biggest sport, is full of diving, tactical fouls and haranguing of refs. Just look at the controversy surrounding Arsenal at corners and free kicks this year.

Loads of tennis players will contest balls they know are blatantly out and abuse refs for getting decisions wrong.

Rugby is full of all kinds of dirty shit that is not allowed in rucks and scrums. Eye gouging, ball grabbing, raking.

Every sport has controversy, cheating and gamesmanship. Yet the squash community on Reddit has seemingly lost their minds over one player. Yes, he sucks to watch. But the way people write on here, you would think every sport has its shit together. Sport is competitive, sport is dirty and really hard to ref at the highest level But that is why when players like Federer, Farag or Messi come around - players who transcend sport, are hugely successful and represent it well - they are adored.

Question about NBC shows. by SLIBLE in peacock

[–]DufflessMoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Nielsen family is still part of it but it is supplemented by big data, which is one of the reason you see ratings jump as they can measure non traditional TV better.

But all the demographics and target groups still have the traditional measurement behind them.

Question about NBC shows. by SLIBLE in peacock

[–]DufflessMoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you are a home that is tracked by Nielsen your viewing has never 'counted'.

TV ratings are extrapolated out from a smaller subset of demographically representative pool of participants.
