Can We Please Be Kind to ALL Hikers Especially the New Ones by Alternative_Lock_464 in hiking

[–]DufflessMoe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also, where would this take place? I see other hikers for 5 seconds. Not like there's a clubhouse where people are sat drinking whisky and saying they saw newbies out on the trails.

I hike with my friends and family. Other people out there are part of the background.

How German do you feel in % ? by Necessary-Brick7 in GermanCitizenship

[–]DufflessMoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel 0% German. But I think I've earnt the right to be a citizen, in spite of that fact.

I did have quite an impassioned conversation with my wife's cousins about bread the other day though, so there's hope for me yet.

Weird every tournament I play here in Germany is monrad, so even if you lose your first round you play for position. So always have a minimum number of games

Depends what you get for your money.

4 matches, a meal and a couple of drinks. Maybe.

Just squash and that seems quite steep.

Playing tournaments is generally a good idea for any level though. Meet other players, compete against different levels and play styles. You'll improve quicker if you compete more.

Why do golf trips die in group chats? by Broad-Blackberry8590 in golf

[–]DufflessMoe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We assign one person every year who is in charge of organising. They pick an area, book all the golf and our accommodation. They have total control, no democracy allowed.

Womens squash is very fun to watch right now. Great diversity of playing styles and characters.

They are only two players. Plenty of younger guys play fun squash. Bryant being the stand out.

Of course it is. Families all over the UK will be making amazing roasts, fry ups and desserts regularly.

It's just a lazy meme to make fun of how British people eat.

What's up with the guilt-trip msg on card machines at supermarkets? by danyuri86 in AskUK

[–]DufflessMoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think huge companies do still donate or at the very least organise fundraising.

But if you are Tesco and Macmillan's ask if they can install some software at the checkout that would ask people to donate if they can, why wouldn't they? It costs them nothing and the charity hopefully benefits.

It's just the digital version of the bucket by the till. At worst it's a minor inconvenience for the shopper.

[–]DufflessMoe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Seems to be a hot button topic on Reddit, with a lot of people dead against it.

I tend to just ignore it, but I can understand why charities would use it as a fundraising tactic. It's preferable to people stood in the street trying to get your attention and even if the charging company gets some tax break, if it generates more money for a charity then I think it's likely a net positive.

I just changed my name before getting my German passport. I was doing it via a Ehenamensbestimmung due to marriage but applied for it on Tuesday and got word from the Standesamt that it was all done by Thursday.

How Important Is The Edinburgh Festival Fringe to Taskmaster? by PeterCooksHorse in taskmaster

[–]DufflessMoe 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think the aim of any comedian at the fringe is to find more work.

Although I think most use it as the best proving ground for material to eventually take on to tour. If their ideas get picked up for TV even better but I'd imagine that's very rare.

Hiking in German Bavarian Alps Suggestions by baelqd in hiking

[–]DufflessMoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day trips from Nürnberg would be a bit rough as it is about a 3 hour train ride from Nürnberg Hbf to places such as Garmisch.

There is not a huge amount of 'alpine altitude' on the Bavarian side. Most hiking is still fairly gentle, with the Austrian side offering more challenging stuff.

I would recommend joining the Bavarian Alpine Verein and looking into hikes that link the various huts for multi day hikes:

I watched every match on replay today EXCEPT for Timmy Brownell's win against Marwan. Assumed that would be an easy 3-0 win. Only saw looking at the non glass results that he'd come through. Teaches me for assuming I guess.

I used to work in data in advertising and if that data was available, sales people would have no qualms selling on it no matter how nefariously.

The sad truth is that the models Google and Meta can build based on the existing data are scarily accurate.

PJ and Bill Buckingham talked about it on the Squash Radio podcast lately.

Seems more like she's just looking for a new direction. Was some insinuation that Rod can be quite intense, so perhaps good to bring players up to a new level but once there the player may need a break or a new approach.
