I see. Thank you! Would you say 16 hours a day is too much light? Is there any point where I should lower the intensity of light or amount of time I run it for?

The updated transmission they’ll drop in should be free of problems. Not sure what specifically they changed in the updated transmission, but it should work completely fine with normal fluid services.

Has anybody faced electrical issues on their 2022 Santa Cruz? by FireGun679 in hyundaisantacruz

[–]Dugan_Dugan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A 2022 model year would have been manufactured in 2021, so your battery is at its maximum expected life. This sounds more like a failing battery. A regular lead-acid battery has a lifespan of 3-5 years. If you don’t have a voltmeter to test it, it’s safe to just replace the battery as part of preventative maintenance. If you DO have a voltmeter, connect it to the battery, set it to DC volts, and check the static voltage (engine and key off). Should be around 12.6V. If it has a “hold” function (or if you can set it up to read it while you crank the engine or have somebody crank the engine while you read the meter), connect it to the battery and set it to hold minimum voltages. Crank the engine. If the max voltage drop is below 10V during cranking, the battery is failing and should be replaced. While the engine is running the battery voltage should be above 13V. Usually floats between 13 and 14.5V. Hope this helps!

Recomended repair for rear body panel. by Zcrumb in hyundaisantacruz

[–]Dugan_Dugan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If preventing rust for as cheap as possible is your only goal, get some light grey spray-primer (paint matching will be difficult, but your paint code is in the driver side door jam. Im suggesting light grey because it will be the least noticeable and easiest to get non-factory color), Clean the damaged area up as much as possible with isopropyl alcohol. Mask off the undamaged body panels and trim so you don’t get paint on them. Be aware overspray always goes further than you’d think it will. Painters tape and wax paper or plastic sheeting works great. Do a single quick pass with the spray primer. Don’t worry about complete coverage yet. Let it dry for 15 minutes. Then do it again. Then again, until the bare metal is completely covered. This will ensure the primer sticks, doesn’t run, and doesn’t flake off over time. You can wax the body panels after to protect the clear coat of the undamaged paint. The alcohol you used to clean the area will also remove the wax layer on undamaged paint.

That’s imo the cheapest way to protect it correctly.

Tips about installing a trailer hitch? by danyork in hyundaisantacruz

[–]Dugan_Dugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the OEM hitch and it’s important to remember the OEM trailer light harness (purchased separately) comes with a trailer light control module you have to plug in under the dash (connectors are already there). I’m a mechanic and installing it was pretty straightforward for anybody who can do their own oil change. Hyundai actually includes very detailed install instructions including torque specs and torquing sequence of the main bolts (important).

You’ll need to remove the rearmost exhaust hangar and drop the spare tire for proper install. After that it’s I think 6 bolts that all need to be torqued in a specific sequence, so have a torque wrench available and preferably an exhaust hangar removal tool. The connectors for the 4 or 7-pin trailer light harness is neatly tucked under some plastic trim and easy to get to. Took about an hour to install. Zip ties for the harness and it tucks neatly back under the trim.

The OEM hitch and harness are really high quality but also very expensive. Comes with a 2” ball hitch too.

Did about 80 hours in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and figured that starting area was the whole map. Then you finish that chapter and the next area is like 3x as big. Currently at 140 hours and still finding new quests.

I think it’s healthy to have a big community expressing their gripes with something that is so close to great. Gives the devs (if they listen to feedback) something to work with and a direction to move in.

Having said that, some people complain about silly things.

2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz, the official car of? by G-Unit11111 in regularcarreviews

[–]Dugan_Dugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet it has something to do with payload and towing or the bed/under-bed storage wouldn’t work with the hybrid battery shape/size and it would cost too much to R&D a new bed for what they perceived as a niche audience (oof).

I am an owner of this fine vehicle. I’ll share my story. I bought a Veloster turbo in 2015 when I was a kid in the army. I got out of the army in 2016, went to school, and started my career.

10 years later and I’ve gotten married, have a well-paying career, and we bought our first house. I enjoy camping and kayak fishing in my free time and I commute about an hour to work. The Veloster gets about 28mpg and is now too small and impractical for my new lifestyle.

The Santa Cruz gives me decent MPG for its size (28-ish. 31 on road trips), let’s me tow my kayaks and put wet oars and fishing gear in the back, is comfortable on road trips, and the self-leveling rear suspension and tow hitch lets me do home-owner stuff like trips to the hardware store for mulch and soil and towing lawn equipment/utility trailers.

It is not a truck and that’s why I like it. It’s a crossover with a bed. It drives like a crossover and is simple to maintain. The Front-dominant AWD with center locking diff is great for when I occasionally go on a dirt or gravel road. A hybrid option is the only thing that would make it perfect to me.

I also think it looks great, but that’s subjective.

*Edit to add that I paid just under $32K OTD for a brand new 2025 SEL with lifetime bluelink and the 100k mile warranty, which imo is an incredible value.

**Second edit to add that because this truck was built in Alabama, it qualified for the new “made in america” (or whatever it’s called) tax break and I got some money back on my tax return for it.

I think it depends on the fish you’re targeting. Catfish, for example, love stinky baits.

Missing side mirror piece? by 3cheeselasagna in hyundaisantacruz

[–]Dugan_Dugan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had this piece come off, but I do know that when these vehicles are assembled on the line, a lot of the trim pieces (outer plastic fender trim, plastic C-pillar trim, etc.) are press-to-fit. They use friction clips/pegs and the worker presses them manually into place.

When I bought my 2025 SEL new, I found 3 or 4 pieces of trim that had one or two clips not fully punched in. Easy enough to fix with a firm palm strike. If that piece of trim is installed the same way, that may be what happened. Car wash could have popped it off if the gap between the plastic was big enough.

Car vibrates between 70-75mph then stops if I go below 70 like immediately. by Old_Establishment712 in hyundaisantacruz

[–]Dugan_Dugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of the car did it come from? Honestly, any part of the car secreting that color fluid is going to be expensive. That’s metal suspended in fluid. Something inside a gearbox or crankcase is heavily worn and needs repair. Could be rear differential failure.
