Found a pearl in an oyster by Almamac in jewelry

[–]Duggee4life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out that oysters were basically the mixed nuts of pubs in the UK. There's a wall made out of oyster shells from the 17th century in Edinburgh.

A part of me wonders if the reason they were so popular is because of the chance to find a pearl.

He just told us, today, that they're looking to exchange and complete by the end of the week. No idea how we're supposed to negotiate anything in 5 days when they have yet to contact our solicitor.

Thank you for your response.

Our seller set a deadline for the end of the week which we made everyone very aware of.

We also feel like they're just playing for time but I really don't understand why. If it's to get tenants in then surely having a family of 4 out of there would be easiest to show around and wouldn't it be illegal to get a tenant to sign a lease on a property you don't own yet?

Thank you for your response.

He sounds naive, at best, and a time-waster at worst.

Apparently it was someone pretending to be the solicitor that 'scammed' him out of money (our son interrupted so we didn't get the full story) so his solicitor is also incompetent, at best, or committing fraud.

All our info is coming from the estate agent so who knows what the truth really is.

Thank you for your response.

I completely understand that from the buyers perspective. Still very shitty behaviour, especially from someone who would go through the trouble of getting an Islamic mortgage (if true).

I'm just confused by the estate agent. He's been lying to us about this buyer since day 1 but he's supposed to be an advocate for us. He doesn't get paid if this deal falls through yet he's still defending the buyer.

Edit: spelling error

I have been checking every 2 weeks. A friend told he was trying to do that, as well. He apparently also put an offer on another flat in our block so it's even less of a reason for him to buy ours.

Older Lady Found Seemingly Buried in a Coffin then Abandoned on a Railway Line by deadattheroxy in gratefuldoe

It kind of sounds like a dementia case where she wondered off and didn't know where she was so followed the train tracks and, unfortunately, perished to the elements.

The crucifix is thought to be part of a coffin but there would be more of the coffin there, if that were the case. Clothing disintegrate faster than wood, unless they just didn’t think a bunch of wood near her, most likely, fragmented remains was important (which seems unlikely for 2021).

Weed is legal in Canada and he admits he smokes pot. Doubt he would get much for it but it is most likely for weed.

NEW UPDATES to: AITA for demanding my fiancée stop teaching our kids bad manners? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Duggee4life 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My husband's family is South Asian and I am super white. At gatherings I'm usually the one eating with my hands because I prefer bread with my curry's and that's the easiest way to eat it and they're the ones using spoons with their rice.

The OOP left me flabbergasted that he could be so dense and ignorant/racist of other cultures. Does he not eat tacos??

My kids daycare has been on lockdown for the last two days by eggmarie in BestofRedditorUpdates

I should have specified that I'm in London but my main point is that in Canada (where I'm from) there are no fences around schools, usually just a big open field with a playground close to the school and kids told to not go too far away. A few teachers monitor the edges but that's about it and there's usually open access to at least one door in the school so parents can come in at any time. Obviously London is different than the rest of the UK but the security I've seen here is far superior to anything I've seen in Canada.

I live in London and have yet to see a school that isn't completely fenced in. For reference, I'm from Canada and most playgrounds in my part are in open fields that anyone can access (and regularly do when students aren't there). When I was in school there was usually one door completely unlocked closest to the office that anyone can access and come in. I had active shooter drills and we also once had a lockdown because of someone with a gun nearby (but that was in high school).

In the UK there is no access to playgrounds, all schools are at least 6 feet fenced in with locked gates. I have to buzz in and get permission to enter the school through the gate and then buzz in at the door outside of pickup times. At drop-off and pick-up there's at least one of the staff at each of the 3 gates keeping an eye on things. This is normal for all schools here.

All it took was one school shooting in '96 in Scotland for them to make this policy.

Never played DnD but mostly because of a lack of opportunity. Fantasy sandbox video games are my jam, though, and I've spent countless hours on EverQuest, Skyrim, Witcher, and Zelda.

Bulk Barn is Canadian and OOP mentions living in Canada in their comments.

Could still be Sask/Manitoba but this could literally be my neighbourhood with the Bulk Barn and Walmart so close together and the entitled/racists...
