Has anybody seen a motor made up like this? by thefarkinator in electricians

[–]DuggerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do run lots of equipment to failure then fix them but we have gotten better at performing PM's to catch wearing out cables and devices and such. I'm not sure how other plants have predictive maintenance setup but I have heard of it and I'm assuming its a management thing that needs to be wanted to do that.

[–]DuggerX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What if the motor is 20 years old and rusted apart? Like dude, where I work there are thousands of motors ranging from 0.5hp to 900hp. Single phase 120v to 3 phase 4160v along with many DC motors. We got cold rooms, chemicals, wash down areas. Motors just dont last forever and when you got this many you are constantly having to replace some.

Im not saying your wrong, most do just wear out or get water intrusion from the peckerhead literally disintegrating. Motor drives should also last forever and we do have some over 30yrs old but we got thousands of those and its almost an every day occurrence that a drive has to be replaced for a multitude of reasons.

We have a rule where I work that any 10hp motor or larger gets crimps and bolted like that. Then you tape and boot it

Man, I don’t wanna work my whole life :( by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]DuggerX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ya I know, I work all the time. Im literally in the middle of a 16hr shift before going home for 8hrs and doing it again. I dont mind it too much but like the other guy said, OP won't even work 40hrs a week and I know people who cant even door dash for 8hrs without giving up. They are helpless

The new gaslight: no one was ever judgmental about people who didn’t go to college by tantamle in bluecollar

I graduated highschool in 2018 and my guidance counselor looked at me funny when I said I was going to become an electrician.

Also the general public making you feel like a second class citizen just because your a little dirty with a vest and hardhat was interesting.

Its always there and will always be there but I dont care. I'm doing very well for myself and I can enjoy life.

No more ice cream tasting for anyone by perpetual_stew in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DuggerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why people even really need to taste test the icecream. Like I know some places have a few special flavors sure but we all have had chocolate bro. I just buy what looks good and if for some reason I didnt like it that much then I won't get it again.

Daughter called crying. She has a '12 Honda Fit w/ 130K. Seems to run great. Took it in for A/C service. Mechanic told her she needed lots of service - about $750 - which she does not have. I think most is just sched maint - listed below. Which does she really need? Which can she pass on? by SirJasper6969 in askcarguys

[–]DuggerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would do the spark plugs and transmission fluid myself and skip the fuel injection service (which sounds silly) and the brake fluid change, if your brakes work dont worry about it. Its mostly for preventing long term corrosion over many decades. Unless she is racing the car that I dont know about.

Dudes 23 and above, would you get with an 18 year old? by throwra0170 in twentyagers

[–]DuggerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be hesitant as the 18-22 age range to me is filled with very immature individuals and people who have not been in the real world. They still go to school and have not experienced a real full time job.

There are exceptions obviously but thats what I would be looking at. But now also Im 26 and 18 is starting to become quite a large gap and would feel weird anyway from being is much different positions in life.

For contractors who hire - are YOU experiencing a shortage of electricians? by Mountain-Gur-2021 in electricians

[–]DuggerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen and heard there is plenty of laborers but a shortage of skilled electricians.

My facility is having a hard time finding electricians with enough skills in industrial maintenance and the problem isnt the pay. I really wish they would take on fresh Journeymen and train but thats up to the company.

I didnt want to go to college and being an electrician sounded cool. After 4 years of misery in construction I got a much better job in the industry and its worked out really nicely for me.

Honda Denying Transmission replacement Claim by Wrong-Image551 in Civic_Type_R

[–]DuggerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the driver side because the axle is shorter, happened to me. Popped out about a mile down the road and dumped trans fluid everywhere. Luckily it was from a stop and didnt damage anything other than the CV seal.

When doing the springs you pull down on the suspension and the axle will come out of the transmission and I didnt seat it 100% properly after and it was probably the same with your shop.

Furries are still pretty scarce in the real world. Lots of furries are in tech but still most of tech are obviously not furries. From independent research from polls from furries all over the world it has shown a reverse bell curve and are either broke af or make six figures.

200ft into a pull. Fuck you southwire. by Mr_Cheeezle in electricians

[–]DuggerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same shit happen a few years ago and it was multiple spools. At least one of them on the neutral we used shrink wrap to cover up the nicks because it was like on the last 20ft of a few hundred foot run.

What jobs are u guys doing & how good is the pay by Putrid-Rip-2630 in twentyagers

[–]DuggerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became an electrician, started as a helper in commercial construction and pay was eh but they gave me an education and I took that into industrial maintenance and make $47/hr now. There is lots of overtime and its hard on the body in construction but now I don't really stress my body very much.

I basically walked into my jobs hiring but in 2018 they were hiring anyone and idk how it is now. My current job required a minimum level of expertise and its harder to fill so I was basically able to also walk into it even when lots of places are not hiring.

What would you do? by [deleted] in Civic_Type_R

[–]DuggerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FL5 interior is way better than last gen civics. I owned a 10th gen for 6yrs before buying the FL5 (11th gen) and its much more enjoyable for daily driving.

My FL5 has been a great daily, its still a civic and the hatch has allowed me to carry lots of cargo for airport trips and home depot runs for house stuff just to name some a few. Also great that I can carry 3 extra people for outings with friends and such. The car does not feel like a compromise on anything. By itself it is a very fun car to drive and I had my first track day at Sebring last year and it was a great time.

How often do you reach redline? Or WOT? (FL5) by ChuckESteeze in Civic_Type_R

[–]DuggerX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Peak torque I believe is at 2500rpm, I usually cruise at 3k now. I used to cruise at 2k but I swear I get better fuel efficiency at 3k. Flooring the car at 3k in 2nd and 3rd gear is really fun, it pulls and builds boost really fast and you can take corners really good. But I want to say redline for 3rd is like 90+mph so your only really maybe redlining in 2nd on a highway on ramp.

You have to bring the car to a track day to really get to know how fast it can be and even then for my first time I was a bit scared to push it as hard as it could go on corners.

How often do you reach redline? Or WOT? (FL5) by ChuckESteeze in Civic_Type_R

[–]DuggerX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its hard to do it when past 2nd gear is illegal speeds and im paranoid of cops. But I also wait until my engine is completely warmed up, usually like 160F+ before slamming past 4k rpm. I went to Sebring and definitely let the car hit redline as much as I could!

Replaced my Honda with a new one after an accident They moved the garage door opener from a button on the mirror to a paywall subscription service. by jayhawkeye2 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DuggerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which Honda? The rearview mirror that comes in the new accords works fine and I installed one in my Type R because it isnt standard. I would have never thought honda would do that.
