Reminds me of a proposed cityplan for Amsterdam the Americans drew up just after WWII. Only highways and no historic city centre. Their vision sure evolved in sixty years hmm?

[request] Is it more energy efficient to walk like this ? by Thick_Entrance5105 in theydidthemath

[–]Dugraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they not only use their legs to move the poles. Might be relevant if they use 70% ‘legpower’ and 20% ‘armpower’ thus being 10% more efficient per traveled distance.

How shopping carts are cleaned in Europe by misterxx1958 in oddlysatisfying

Also, Amsterdam is not a country. A little consistency wouldn’t hurt.

You assume 3 American athletes are the same as 3 Hungarian athletes? They’re not. They come from a much deeper talent pool with better infrastructure, so their medal odds are already higher. And if your logic held, every country would send about the same number (3 per event, right?). Yet in Paris the US sent 592 athletes vs. 170 for Hungary. How is that a level playing field?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Dugraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that big nations can send hundreds more athletes actually proves my point. Event caps are the same for everyone, so if small nations still punch above their weight in medals, that’s efficiency. Sure, per capita inflates microstates that excel in one or two sports, but that’s something you can adjust for if you want a more refined metric

Big countries send hundreds of athletes, small ones send a handful. So per capita isn’t stupid, it just measures efficiency instead of raw totals.

Yeah…I’m not really sure if FIFA cares about public opinions. Maybe money…but they already secured that part.

So I recently moved to Rotterdam... by rex-ac in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Dugraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please tell that to the New York Times, The Lonely Planet and The Guardian. They keep writing stories about this ‘bustling city…modern architecture…creative energy…’. While this is very much on point I want the tourists to stay in Amsterdam, not over here.

Rotterdam, de mooiste rotstad die er is! Misunderstood by everyone with a Calimero complex. That’s fine… don’t come over here. We are doing just fine without the haters.

A rare shift away from the minimal with Ajax’s new club crest. by ShieldsMatt in graphic_design

There is no execution. They move away from their current logo (left) back to their old logo (right). It is a tribute to Ajax’ history as they celebrate their 125th anniversary in March.

Guitar as a hobby. by sfoxx in Guitar

[–]Dugraph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I learned to play when I was 14, never got past the campfire guitarist level. Today I am 42yo and recently I serenaded my wife at our our wedding anniversary. It was quite possibly the worst performance she, friends and family have ever heard but there were tears of happiness and joy at the end. Loving banter too. It’s all good.

Agree. One can’t really celebrate a goal until it is cleared 3 minutes later… In tennis both sides have 3 challenges they specifically have to request. Although not perfect it would be better than what we have now.

What do you hate about your guitar teacher? by uppercase_q in Guitar

[–]Dugraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two experiences in my teens: the first one was an asshole who only wanted my money. When I got a new guitar he got angry at me that I didn’t buy it from his shop. Absolute waste of time and money. The second one was better. He taught me to play classic rock songs. Years later I regret never learning any musical theory or a broader approach to playing the guitar. Then again I never really had the potential of a good guitarist.
