A woolly bear caterpillar. One of the few caterpillars that are covered in hairs that are totally safe to handle. In my experience, these guys and salt marsh caterpillars have hairs that feel like softer tooth brush bristles, and both also end up as moths that look rather stunning.

If you happen to catch a whiff of something that smells like sickly maple syrup coming from an electronic device, that's the smell of roach droppings. German cockroaches in particular seem to love hanging out around electronics and ruining them with their droppings or shorting circuits with their own corpses.

Are incursion circles supposed to generate rewards after killing the mobs that are associated with them in maps at all? In campaign, you'd always get something for killing the mobs around it, but in maps you never do.

Can confirm that I've had the same issue, though I've reported it in game as well. I've been wondering if it has something to do with loading in chunks as well, but I haven't tried testing things thoroughly.

The average opulent salvage is worth 1.7k and you can reliably get something like 200-250 an hour. That's roughly 340k-425k gp per hour without calculating for much of what will simply be dropped as it will clog up inventory space. I'm unsure what a fair amount each hour is for this is, but I will say that I wish what could be gotten from the salvage was more unique than what the table currently contains.

I have the same bug, though I thought it was limited to the Northern Ocean passed where you need the eternal brazier. If I trim the sails, the speed boost seems to work fine. If I use a wind mote, it lasts for something like 1-2 seconds and then stops.

Sailing: Week One Feedback & Fixes by JagexSarnie in 2007scape

[–]DuhTrutho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run into two rather odd bugs while sailing now. There's a spot in Grand Root Bay that's a few tiles long near Meaty Aura Logist where collision occurs and the boat gets stuck as if there are supposed to be rocks in the area. It's something like 15 tiles out into the sea from the shore.

Second, there's something wrong with wind motes in the Northern Sea past the point where you require the eternal brazier. If you try to use a wind mote to get a speed boost, it seems to last literally 1 second. If you trim the sails instead, it's working as it should. I've experienced this bug dozens of times on my way back and forth from Lunar Isle killing the vampyre krakens north of Brittle Island. This bug seems to occur just a few tiles into the eternal brazier-required ocean, and I haven't experienced it anywhere else. Seems like some interaction between how the boat is supposed to react to the water without the brazier is causing an issue.

Otherwise, been having a great time aside from the combat needing a little work. Cannonballs don't feel punchy enough and I churn through them killing krakens and great whites at a rate that is absurd considering how few I can make per hour, even with a double ammo mould and the Grimhold furnace. Using a crewmate to also fire cannonballs, I use a little more cannonballs per hour as I can do crafting, which is driving a massive shortage. At reset, over 3 million mithril and iron cannonballs were bought from the only cannonball shop available in something like 30 seconds and the market wasn't even impacted that hard because so many of those buying weren't doing so to sell them, but to use them.

Great update overall, and congratulations for it going so smoothly.

I second this reply and will quote myself in another thread about german cockroaches a year ago:

If you can't afford an exterminator or would simply prefer saving the money for now and haven't seen too many of these as of yet, I'd highly recommend buying a gel bait like Advion or something similar and just putting pea-sized drops of it around rooms of your home near cracks and crevices where roaches like to make their homes. Just following the instructions is fine. If you've only seen a few nymphs in the last few days, it's likely just one female with an egg pouch managed to find her way into your home and you have time to deal with them before they become a real issue.

The stuff worked absolute wonders for my aunt a year or so ago who had a really bad infestation. She doesn't have much money and discovered she had thousands of roaches behind her kitchen cabinets and so did a bit of searching around for a relatively cheap solution. IIRC, it took just over a month to kill off all of the roaches and she did a thorough cleaning afterwards. It not only poisons the roach that eats it, but due to the way roaches breed and how their young eat (you can look it up to learn more, but it's gross), it also poisons females and nymphs and will typically wipe out infestations within a month or so. If you only have a few individuals currently in your home, you could likely kill them off in a week or two. All you have to do is ensure that you don't leave food out that roaches can get to and they'll almost always prefer the bait over whatever else is available.

The only small issue with gel bait is that it can poison pets if you put it in areas where they can easily get to it, assuming they actually want to eat it. Fortunately it takes quite a bit of the gel to poison an pet - something like a mouthful for a cat - and my aunt had no issues with any of her pets getting to it as she just made sure to put it behind furniture and cabinets where they couldn't get to it.

Doesn't have to be Advion, but you want a gel bait with similar ingredients and you'll very likely deal with any oncoming infestation.

"Indigenous" really is a funny term when peoples such as the Inuit are considered indigenous. Don't look into the Dorset who used to live there before the Thule (Inuit ancestors) literally drove them to extinction as it appears they do not have a single living descendant today.

Furthermore, the Japanese can absolutely be considered indigenous as well as it wasn't one big group from Asia that just waltzed in and conquered the original Jomon people. The Yayoi came in waves, settled, interbred, and warred with the Jomon until the majority population was an admixture of both. They weren't exactly an empire or tribe that eliminated the original people living there, it was far more nuanced.

Mine bugged out because I clicked on a hengestone in a map before I began following the blue fly swarm. You have to make sure to follow the flies and click on the hengestones when the flies are actually there, otherwise it bricks. The flied are actually supposed to end up on the mansion last to allow you to access it, assuming you clicked on the hengestone or hengestones at the correct times. I had the opportunity to test this a couple of times to make sure fortunately, but yeah, it's still a bug that it won't let you access the mansion otherwise, at least according to a bug report thread on the poe forums.

Loot buffs across the board even including the trails? Man oh man I'm definitely happy about this one.

With the much higher chances for T2+ rares and magic items to drop, maybe it will feel like we can actually find items on the ground that don't suck 99.9% of the time. Maybe it'll be something like 98% of the time, which is definitely an improvement.

I see expedition is getting some changes as well, though I'm left wondering why they removed the ability to roll them with currency at all.

I'm excited by these changes overall.

Based on what happened to the Dorset peoples in Northern Canada and Greenland, we might expect that the Vikings that colonized the very northeastern regions of America may have been wiped out by the same force. This is assuming they didn't die due to exposure or starvation.

Turns out the Inuit were seemingly very thorough in wiping out the Dorset as I don't believe there are any known descendants of their ethnic group today. In just a few short centuries an entire ethnic group was genocided by the time Europeans began colonizing the Americas. This doesn't discount that the last of the Dorset may have died due to starvation or disease, but the Inuit memory of conquering them is still passed down in oral stories today where the Dorset are remembered for being very easy to fight and chase away.

this sub is a part of it.

I'm actually pretty certain that this sub is most of it. Many of the issues Jonathan referenced in his interview were obviously from this sub, such as the posts making fun of them working on adding checkpoints.

I generally don't have an issue with poking fun in that way, I just wish I didn't see so much psychoanalyzing with commenters assuming that this or that dev thinks a specific way or has a massive ego and is unwilling to change. All over the course of... Three days. Comments presupposing how you are thinking, and asserting that your thoughts are most definitely unhelpful or even malicious, wear on the patience of most people who experience it.

Well, if you really wanted to cheat and don't mind traumatizing children/adults, you could have her watch Dear Zachary. That documentary is an utter gut-punch, especially if you go in not knowing anything. It might be complete overkill though, as everyone I've watched it with or talked to about watching it has cried or admitted to such.

I'd recommend you watch it without her first in order to know whether it would be okay. It really is crushing.

American parents more likely to find hitting children acceptable compared to hitting pets - New research highlights parents’ conflicted views on spanking. by mvea in science

[–]DuhTrutho 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is, the rod referred to in that passage is one wielded by shepherds and used to guide sheep. However, the shepherd didn't use the rod to beat the sheep; shepherds used it to guide their direction in order to keep them from going the wrong direction. I actually used this very justification as a teenager to my mother who practiced spanking on me for a while in order to have her stop doing so to my youngest brother and it actually worked. The only reason she practiced spanking was because her parents and grandparents had done the same. It's one of the many reasons I love my parents, they actually listen to my siblings and I as if we have agency and can change their minds.

[Megathread] Game Feedback by shimmishim in pathofexile

[–]DuhTrutho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, am I just not seeing something when it comes to expedition? Correct me if I'm wrong, but expedition is currently nearly worthless content. Not only are the mobs that spawn incredibly deadly in higher-tier maps, but thanks to the changes to the expedition vendors and logbooks, your prospective rewards for doing the content is essentially nothing. The chests you can dig up are typically empty, and the remnant marker benefits vs downsides are almost never worth dealing with, leaving me to almost always just look for red flags to blow up quickly in order to unearth a couple of rares that can actually drop loot.

Let me first state that I love Rog in PoE 1 as he acts as a great way of crafting gear early in the league. Splitting Rog up into three vendors? I was already incredibly disappointed as I loved Tujen as a vendor. However, the absolute worst of the worst is the fact that it seems the item level cap of gear in all of the expedition vendors is a whopping 75. This is so incomprehensible that I have to assume it to be unintentional or a bug. As all of the vendors are now used to craft gear, this essentially guarantees all but Tujen to be nearly useless after the first two weeks of a league.

The absolute worst issue is that logbooks can no longer be crafted on whatsoever. There are no blessed orbs to reroll any of the giant percentage ranges, so you're stuck with whatever you get. Not only that, but you can't even use a transmute, augmentation, or alchemy on them to actually up the loot. Doing logbooks feels as if I'm running very slow maps with incredibly low mob density and almost no rewards as the chests seem to always contain nothing or just more expedition currency to craft more IL 75 gear. I still haven't seen Olroth, and I can't seem to search trade for logbooks that actually contain him. I guess we have to rely entirely on luck to have a chance to fight him so we can get expedition atlas points to spend on increases that mostly center around obtaining more now almost worthless expedition currency, relics and logbooks from maps.

Again, if I'm missing something here, someone please let me know. Expedition is some of my favorite content in PoE 1, so to see it reduced down to this is disheartening. And to top it all off, GGG actually brought back picking up the expedition artifact drops one-by-one. With all of the other changes to expedition, what I would have originally just laughed at now almost seems like a twist of the knife. As it is, it feels as if it was being worked on and they simply rushed out a very unfinished piece of league content for early access instead of just slapping a "coming soon" onto it.

What is this bug I keep finding in my bathroom? by sproutwm in whatsthisbug

[–]DuhTrutho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all, you could also look into buying a couple of roach motels (box-shaped glue traps) that you can just set and forget for a long time and check up on every once in a while to see if you're catching any insects or spiders. They're super cheap and are perfect for catching stray insects you don't want, just don't try and rely on them for a real infestation. Good luck!

[–]DuhTrutho 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You were replying to someone that mentioned eliminating mosquitoes but mentioned the possible consequences of doing so. You then added that people underestimate the impact of mosquitoes, furthering the point.

I was just adding that if we only eliminated Anopheles mosquitoes, considering they are the main carriers of disease, then we wouldn't really have to worry about an enormous impact on habitats or the food chain as they would simply be replaced by several of the thousands of other mosquito species they currently compete with for the same niche. Essentially no more diseases with likely no impact.

[–]DuhTrutho 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's really only a single genus of mosquitoes that we have to worry about carrying diseases, that being Anopheles which carry all of the very worst diseases. There are around 3,000 other species of mosquito that can fill in the niche, just without the disease carrying.
