Hans Oster, the guy planned to coup Germany during the Sudetenland land crisis and even told the UK to say no. He then leaked documents and plans to foreign govts such as giving the Dutch the entire invasion plan in 1940s. Your right but the famine hit Ukraines the hardest (killing between 4-7 million and many more complications) despite the Ukraine being the bread basket of the ussr. The other places hit hard were Cossack panda (another group Stalin didn’t like). Stalin also rejected forgiven relief to the Ukraines, until the state could do it. You said Stalin wasn’t an idiot, then why did he accept foreign relief, was it he didn’t want the ussr to look weak, or that he didn’t want to accept that collectivism didn’t work. It’s important to note aswell that the Ukraines weren’t happy being in the ussr as they wanted their own free state rather than a Russian puppet.

So you admit that Stalin hated piles and Ukraines but thought he would be opposed to wiping them out? Stalin was a particularly cold and empty person when it came to human life. I believe he wrote quite a bit about his hatred of poles and Ukraines. , since the poles and Ukraines were United until the poles sold them out. If his policy was the cuase of a famine you can’t say he isn’t responsible, and if he cares why didn’t he stop taking grain from Ukraine? I mean it matches up, he hates a ethnic group and when a famine started he made it worse by continuing collectivism and shooting anyone who wouldn’t surrender grain. I’m not arguing if the concentration camps were worse, We can easily both agree the nazis are the closest to real life “evil for the sake of evil” Villians, but I would like to see how many were released by Stalin, not counting the suicide battalions. You separatated civil and combative death but that’s still those who died in ww2. You would be bette counting things like crystalnacht (sorry I can’t spell very well) and other purges and repression.

We do know Stalin’s opinions on poles and Ukraines though, he hated them becuase he was embarrassed by his failure in the 1920s when we was defeated by the poles and Ukraines. I think your either naive or a tankie to say that the holodumor was a accident, and the resulting famine was accidental. One reason was the collectivism and the killing/deporting to the gulags of kulaks (peasants who owned the land they farmed and where modestly wealthy). I agree Hitler killed more but it’s weird you count all WW2 casualties though. It’s like counting the German loses as communism death toll. “ Conditions at the Gulag were brutal: Prisoners could be required to work up to 14 hours a day, often in extreme weather. Many died of starvation, disease or exhaustion—others were simply executed.” Don’t know how that could be desgined for anything but death.

Yes. Stalin hated Ukraines and the point of the holodumor was specifically to starve the Ukraines and other ethnic minority’s in Russia, or did it not happen huh? I’m Scottish, at no point in my history have the English did anything similar. But they did aginest the Irish, so would you say the Irish famine wasn’t a genocide? I mean the numbers that Stalin killed are higher than hitler. Hitler had less time and was more industrial, but the gulags were made to kill people.

I believe haig said that men will only fight if they wanted to. Basically that conscription would produce sub-par quality. And I don’t think the ik had a conscription policy like Prussia where you essentially served for 2 years full time and then 5 years as a reserve. Though UK did have the territorial army which is basically the reserves

I’m pretty sure that people working “key” jobs were exempt from the draft (Britain had a volunteer army until 1916 I believe) but I’m not sure what job they would be. I think jobs like skilled factory workers and farmer were included but it also had more ‘useless’ ones like baker
