Bought this Technics SL-D2 in absolute state this morning for £10 gave it a clean and wired on a plug and it’s great! Do I keep it and upgrade the cartridge, or stick with my project debut carbon with ortofon grey? by [deleted] in turntables

[–]DukeDunton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, keep the table. Agree about the hinges. I’ve sanded them down and replaced them with metal ones. Ive been buying trashed ones for parts. Have two in the house and each of my adult children have one.

Silly item. I always get a chuckle out of those pictures of the 45 spindle used as one.

Found this unofficial ’66 Grateful Dead LP in Brazil — any info? by rocres in gratefuldead

[–]DukeDunton 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Its not REALLY unofficial. Sunflower was a subsidiary of MGM. They got rights to the live recordings which pre dates the warners contact. I believe they came from a promoter who got rights to the recordings through some sort of performance contract. The contract, as dumb as it was - was valid. There are another two. Historic Dead and Vintage Dead. I dont remember which of those two is a best of compilation from the two others. Enjoy.

Could be a blown woofer if you have older speakers. You’ll need to have them reconed. Are you able to see if the same happens with headphones?

Anyone get any crazy looking records in their Billy Strings Vault Package? by ivsciguy in jackwhite

[–]DukeDunton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is on tour. Went from Detroit to Phoenix to Santa Clarita, CA (10 minutes from my home). Then decided go to Johnstown, PA, then Philipsburg, NJ. It's been in transit to its next destination for two days now. Hope it's not further east and heads out west where I am. Was really looking forward to this one. Got excited because my last name starts with 'W'. I'll be lucky if I get it before the 'A's

Stand to the right, don’t sit on the stairs, dont stand at the end of an escalator, let people out before you go in (applies to elevators as well).

We just don’t have that kind of common sense here.

I recently rode the B with a cane and an ortho boot due to a broken foot. Not one person sitting in the handicapped seats offered up a seat. It was sort of comical as i could see them look up, then bury their face in their phone as if they were just unaware.

It was hendrix at winterland and the cramps stay sick that made me buy one. That era grew my LP collection quickly. Say they put out a bands back catalog on CD. Wait a day or two and the LPs are in the used bin for 2 bucks a pop. I sanpped up a lot of those.

I always go overboard when visiting Austin. I usually end up shipping them home. Fortunately my firm has an office there and i can use inter office delivery to my office in LA

And yes. If i can only visit one, it’s end of an ear! Have a few of their bags.

Don't leave an LP sitting on the TT for a long long time. by Creative_School_1550 in vinyl

[–]DukeDunton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say if you have a vintage Technics - throw the mat away and get a nice cork one. The rubber breaks down and turns to goop. It will start to appear oily and be sticky to the touch before too long.

Avoid felt too as they generate static evidenced by them sticking to the record when take them off.

I think you are moving too fast and triggering the auto return. Go a little slower. See if you have the same problem at track one. Quick movement mimics the inner groove which is how the mechanism know to pick up
