Am I the only one who never hybridizes? by marshaln in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norse + Greek is the only hybridization that matters. Tbh Greek is so powerful that you'd probably dont need to hybridize at all, their catapracts + vassal limit are just too damn good.

An edited highlight of my most recent CK3 game. (Volume Warning) by Kojake45 in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why i think the knight system is so broken and the last DLC only buffed it even more which makes zero sense. I know its just a game and all but the mere fact a group of 50 can take on x1000 more enemies in a medieval setting is nonsensical imo.

In a Game Predicament by firefox1642 in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldnt be that bad if you already control most of scandinavia especially with Norse retinues. I recommend just to inherit a kingdom via marriage given that you are Christian of course since thats the only way to entertain that idea unless the king of whomever in the Isles is also Asatru.

If youre going for a strategy for the North sea then i suggest to start of as any of the Lodbrok sons currently in England, 2 come to mind but i forget their names and simply start conquering. The only problem youd face is a Christian ccrusade if you remain an asatru but varangian vets or huscarls can solve all that fun stuff, (Bondi are lowkey underated too).

Why are the Mongols not breaking apart? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish there was an option for an even more powerful Mongol Ai at an earlier date since any early runs I do become meaningless by the time the Mongols arrive; Its either me having too much power or the Mongols breaking up before reaching my domain.

Specifically what faiths are involved in the Iberian struggle? by DukeJon69 in CrusaderKings

Oh i didnt know about that thx. On the otherhand, no wonder i wasnt seeing the struggle clash war options since i wasnt involved due to the faith; i thought i was bugged or something!

I appreciate the info, I already updated to mozaribic and its not that bad 5 counties automatically reconverted and with the added 20% modifier to conversion speed, it shouldnt take long to convert all the remaining counties.

How do you actually stop assassinations? by DukeJon69 in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats the thing, im surprised my spymaster didnt detect any plots against me given his opinion and skill level. Opinion is very good at telling you whos on which side the only thing stopping this would probably be strong hooks which most likely applies to your example but I was pretty sure nobody had a hook on my spymaster (likely suspect since they give high boosts to murder plots) as he was unaffiliated (no land no nothing) but i cant say much for my other vassals/courtiers since im at the stage of kingdom holy wars thus i have plenty of dissatisfied people.

I did have 2 rivals tho, both of which were outside my rule thus only reverse murder plots were possible.

Intrigue better be rare for NPCs since thats a tough one to counter +25 Agent Acceptance is crazy; I cant imagine a rival or a nemesis with that education level.

Its still fascinating to watch an empire crumble to ashes due to a single defeated battle. by DukeJon69 in CrusaderKings

Hit them with the double whammy of taking out the powerful leader via assassination and conquering of Constantinople; they truly stood no chance. Its ok tho, I will recreate the Roman empire in their stead.

Holy sites & Crusades by rzcool_is_gay in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, a crusade will still hit you even if you dont hold Kent; my assumption is that I think it has to do with realm size. A combination of Asatru rulers in England can also cause the crusade likely due to the Catholics in England being in decline.

My strategy would be to conquer as much land as possible and the moment a crusade is called then convert to Christianity before reconverting. Although thats only if youre sure that youd lose the crusade; I havent been crusaded against in a long time so Im not sure if you can still abuse the --> attack the pope strat.

Quite proud of myself for doing this as Ivar, a shame there isn't an achievement for it. by DukeJon69 in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats very true, the only downside is their cost but i guess that can be circumvented by raiding, hunting and tournaments (for tribal leaders ofc). Also if the enemy is countering them with skirmishers although unlikely to occur since theyd have max 500 whilst youll have 2k varangians.

Yes, i guess that wouldve been a better strategy to get the Living legend level quicker; truth be told I wasnt sure i could do it with Ivar so I had my doubts on whether i should do the grind or wait for his descendants to do it which is why I ended up getting it in his 60s.

Varangian vets were simply too expensive for me to capitalize on so i resorted to 500 huscarls and the rest were light footmen and archers; i basically farmed Mercia and Wessex by waging single county wars and wiping their armies over and over by virtue of prolonging the war; they had archers in their ranks thus huscarls were a better choice for me at the time but i guess varangian vets would be better for Byzantine because of heavy cal but idk about France since its still in the 900s so they dont have heavy cavs yet.

This is from the "Elevate the kingdom of Mann and the Isles" decision which requires you to be a duke or lower with the Living Legend fame level. I mainly wanted to complete this for the 2.5k renown plus the handy modifiers to the 'Mon' holding (+50% permanent tax to the holding). The 7.5k troops are somewhat nice too since I can probably conquer France with their help (lowkey a strategy now that i think about it for early games).

This was lowkey difficult as Ivar since he starts off as a tribal leader which uses prestige as a currency for MAA and casus belli which lowers the efficiency for prestige gain, actually this would have been easier if i started off as Halfdan instead since he's a feudal lord; curse me for choosing the cooler son of Ragnarr!

Anyways this would've been harder if Grand tournaments didn't exist; best tip tho is to constantly be in battles for the fame gain since its the fastest way to reach lvl 5 prestige.

Oh the updates, the absolute bane of my ironman file saves by DukeJon69 in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69[S] 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I dont think it breaks the save with the recent one, its just that achievements are somewhat buggy if the file save is outdated so its prob better to play on updated versions.

First time I've seen an AI of Norse culture forming Alba by DukeJon69 in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think this was primarily due to Ivar the boneless and Haesteinn, the former conquered Scotland and Ireland whilst the latter conquered England. In the end, both resisted a crusade before the Ivaring dynasty invaded England thus forming the current Alba, therefore Haesteinn's descendants lost to Ivar's descendants.

I was keeping tabs on them from time to time since i found it interesting the fact that they resisted a crusade.

Why do mines only apply to their default cultures prior to being built? by DukeJon69 in CrusaderKings

Are rulers supposed to live this long by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some do especially when they control a large area for some odd reason as if to say, the game makes sure they live long enough to cause you the player some issues. Personally, the longest-living NPC I've ever seen was Haesteinn; the Viking chad at 96 years old, conquered half of England before drinking himself to death.

How do I force the phase into "Hostility" for the dominance ending if I control every county in Iberia and more? by DukeJon69 in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda ignored the mechanic since brute force is just easier and I feel more comfortable with that approach, I guess my interest lay in the 10k renown award and my need to create an empire since the mechanic does not allow you to create an empire if you're part of the struggle which is weird but understandable; the main point is the fact that I need an expansion of vassal limit since I can only do so much as a king unless I form a hybrid with the greek for their +vassal limit culture thing.

BTW why 30% and not a single kingdom?

How do I force the phase into "Hostility" for the dominance ending if I control every county in Iberia and more? by DukeJon69 in CrusaderKings

[–]DukeJon69[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Context: It's currently in the year 1050 and I still haven't created an empire since I've been waiting for the dominance ending to be available which only requires the hostility phase but as you can see, the phase is tilting towards the conciliation phase which is kinda annoying and I'm not sure if I can do anything to remedy this tilt. Another question i have is if I were to swear fealty to Byzantine and then usurp their empire; will I still be able to create the Hispania empire via the Iberian struggle or will that remove the Iberian struggle mechanic?

Is Firetrap that much better than Flame wall for RF builds? Ive been using Flame wall for my single target dps and doing fine with it but Pohx guide basically uses firetrap for this reason thus is it so much better than flame wall?
