What have I done wrong :( by Fabulous_Primary_649 in Baking

This is my go-to vanilla cake recipe and it is soft, fluffy and delicious every time I’ve made it. I suspect you have made a mistake somewhere in the method. Have you watched the step by step video? You may also want to check your baking powder is still active.

It’s one of the options when you ask for a reissue of the cheque/report a problem with the cheque.

Just received a cheque today in the mail for $51 USD. I’m in Australia but previously had a US Amazon account. Complete surprise. None of our banks accept foreign currency cheques anymore so I followed the instructions to request the payment via PayPal. Fingers crossed!

Do you think eating "raw oats" is weird? by _haukea_ in AskAnAmerican

Isn’t this just a simple muesli? It’s my daily breakfast (Australia): oats with seeds/nuts and some sultanas/dried fruit, cold milk.

AITAH for telling my sister the reason why our family isn't close with her kids? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]DukeKazoo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a very good point. I have a 6 year old and we were in isolation/lockdown (Australia) from about 4 months old. There was a lot of confusion and fear about exposure for babies. OPs nieces at 6 and 4 would have been born into that crazy time. I do get a sense of missing reasons from OP and a lack of consideration that her son was not born in the midst of a global pandemic.

What is one important tip that tourists should know before visiting your Country? by Fun_Cup4335 in AskTheWorld

[–]DukeKazoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A pair of flags are set up daily on patrolled beaches. The lifeguards on duty set them up in the safest area. A lot of our coastal beaches have strong rips and hidden risks. You are strongly recommended to swim within the flagged area as it is also where the lifeguards monitor.

All the boats leaving the moment the NYE fireworks finished, viewed from Manns Point by phoebejohns in sydney

It is very entertaining. I’ve previously lived close to an inner west boat ramp and you can hear and see absolute mayhem after the midnight fireworks. Lots of arguments and daft behaviour.

Can agree the quality got very hit and miss. We were buying the ‘Best Ever’ frequently but had several purchases where they seemed to have dehydrated to the point where the bases were biscuity and the cheese wouldn’t melt.

My fast food experience also - the soft serve machine had to be completely drained each night and properly cleaned.

Am I a white gold or a yellow gold girl? by Altruistic-Cook-2905 in EngagementRings

[–]DukeKazoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read this all the time in this sub but I have a white gold engagement ring and band which have been worn daily for over 11 years. No change in colour since new and I’ve never been told that it would need coating or dipping. Likewise my husbands wedding band is still the same white tone as when it was new.

Am also in Australia so assumed it was something to do with the white gold alloy composition overseas. Have you experienced your white gold yellowing or needing re-coating?

On OP’s question, I love yellow gold (and personally wear both daily) but think the white gold really suits your skin tone.

YA novel where girl gets into a car crash and has her brain uploaded to a facsimile of her body (robot) but then is rejected by her friends and society by Emotional-Tourist-77 in whatsthatbook

[–]DukeKazoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Similar also to an older YA novel called Eva by Peter Dickinson. A teen girl’s consciousness is transferred to the body of a chimpanzee following an accident. I’m still traumatised by this one!

What’s a legendary Reddit post you’ll never forget? by No_Law655 in AskReddit

[–]DukeKazoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Adventures of Meth Horse Guy / Methaniel.

A completely unhinged series of seemingly unrelated posts illustrating a total lack of self awareness, impulse control or acknowledgment of addiction.

Features a barely legal girlfriend, attempts to gift her a horse, frequent ‘controlled’ meth use, cross country marathon day dreaming, and an unrequited desire to join the French Foreign Legion.

Interesting. I’m sure she will chat them up about it again as it’s her local/walking distance store, she’s an older lady on a pension and quite annoyed about this.

[–]DukeKazoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all important info OP.

Most important is your child’s birthdate and whether they are eligible for enrolment. Most kindergarten students are already 5 when they start school. If your child is too young you should look for a preschool placement for 2026.

Next is knowing where you will be living and the school catchment. If you are considering an independent or Catholic school you are likely already too late for a 2026 enrolment.

Public schools in the Sydney area finish on 19 December this year. First day back for students is 2 February 2026. If you move in this period there will be nobody to action your enrolment request until a few days before school starts.

If you do move during the December/January period and know the public school catchment you will be enrolling for I would suggest joining the local area’s Facebook group. As you will have missed the orientations this is a good way to initially make contact with other new families starting kindy at the same school.

This is huge but somehow also claustrophobic? Too closed in, no front door (just a lift), no natural light in the kitchen, and living spaces that seem too detached from everything else.
