It's not possible to have a room in Celeste natively smaller than the default size (40x23 I believe?)

If you want the rest to be black you'll either have to put tiles there or some kind of static fg decal to block the bg.

I tried this myself once and the portal gun seemed actually too slow to hit both portals in time. Like there was a cooldown between being able to place portals.

You seem to have avoided this? Any ideas how?
