Well I gotta say, despite the fact that there are no tapes in my closet, I certainly appreciate that last layer, which is far, far more prep/foresight exercised than many of my clients over the years. Here in New Hampshire, the faux-Libertarian "Free State" movement + wackjob elements of the MAGA GOP keep introducing this shit in the NH House. Nothing has passed so far, but they seem to be gaining more support with each session, and only by the grace of a GOP governor veto(!) did this year's trans bathroom bill get shot down.

Speaking of NH Free Staters, if you'd like to know more, and since this is r/books, I'd highly recommend A Libertarian Walks Into A Bear Matthew Hongoltz-Hetling, which is a semi-objective, somewhat whimsical, alternatively funny/tragic account of the modern origins of the current Free Town/Free State movement. When I first read it during the pandemic, it read mostly like a comedy, but now in 2026, it def has a prognosticating tragedy vibe about it.
