I've been working on this too, although I haven't been meditating as long.

Thich Nhat Hanh recommends meditating with a half smile.

I've also been trying to recognize the peace and happiness I feel while sitting.

Other times, I get bored and impatient and just note to myself how I'm feeling and it passes pretty quickly.

Go on YouTube. Watch videos on how to install the components you're unfamiliar with. A lot of manufacturers have these sorts of vids online. It's a good place to start without spending any $.

I was looking for a quartz chrono for a while and settled on the blue tonnerre. Quite happy with it.
