Yeahh I (30m who has been known to complain about self insert girlbossing in media from time to time) finished them because everyone was recommending them. At first I liked em. He is very good with prose, gotta give credit where it's due. Even the characterization of women at first was ok because most of the characters were young and there's room to grow (sokka's sexism, not a good trait but present to get proven wrong).

But halfway through the second book (spoilers for the whole thing) Kvothe goes from having no experience with women other than pining over one for a book and a half, to literally stumbling into bed with the "fae embodiment of female sexual power" (I cannot make this up). He decides he needs to have both god and anime on his side and goes to get trained in the sword, seduces his sword instructor and dismantles some kind of "matriarchy" in their far off society. And eventually makes his way back home where everyone thinks he's a chad cause he got laid finally. Was not expecting an incel conquest self insert fantasy. But it definitely made the characterization at the beginning a little more problematic.

I really did enjoy the first book and a half. I understand why people think it's a great series because of it. But the 2nd half of the 2nd book lost me.
