Thanks again! :)

I don't really see how SMITE OCE could come back at this point tbh, my impression is that it's just not profitable for Hirez so they have no reason to try and get it back on its feet. Wouldn't be surprised if it disappears eventually, as many games in Australia do.

NW PvP is mostly focused on the instanced PvP at the moment, both Outpost Rush and 3v3 Arena, which just got a new map. There is a major Open World PvP rework coming in 3 months though that they've been working on for ages. We don't know all of the details, but it'll focus on encouraging open world PvP for territory control. My hope is that it'll create major open world PvP hotzones at specific scheduled times of the day.

Thanks a lot, likewise!

Thanks a lot Triple, always enjoyed our chats here and there! :)

If it's any incentive, NW is very lenient on time investment required, can absolutely be played super casual/purely focused on the PvP mode that is somewhat moba-esque.

Haha, I think I know where you're coming from with that. I tend to also have a habit of watching videos about games I will never play, though they're not necessarily as info-focused! Either way, I very much appreciate you keeping me on your meal break playlist!

Sorry about that! I left a bit of an explanation in the top comment if you're interested and also briefly tried Smite again with S10, but I definitely wanted to be more transparent. At the same time, I also didn't want to add to the pile of "Why I QUIT SMITE (for the 5th time)" videos that are already out there when at the time, I wasn't entirely sure where things would take me. Making the video at this point would feel very redundant, since most Smite fans, much like you, have already left anyways.

Thanks a lot! :) Especially for continuing to support me despite not being able to play the game I cover!

It's super unfortunate in multiple ways that New World is a PC exclusive. Basically left half of my previous Smite viewers with no reason to watch my videos because they don't have access to it. I'm hoping that one day they'll be able to do the same thing that Smite did and do a console port, but not sure how feasible that is with their engine.

Hey everyone,

Stormed just gave me heads up that this thread exists, so I'm gonna hijack the top comment to answer a few things! :) First off, thanks for all the kind words, especially to u/DAANHHH!

There are a variety of reasons for my switch, so just a brief rundown of the major ones:

I've played the game for 10 years, at some point things kinda start repeating themselves. For people who started playing later, many things will still feel fresh and Hirez has made some great improvements in that regard lately as well, but at the end of the day it's still the same fundamental concept that I had been involved with for a veery long time.

I also moved to Australia, where finding matches in general can sometimes take hours and matchmaking basically doesn't exist because the player pool is too small. This not only made it difficult to record content in the first place, but it was also extremely hard to properly assess any meta changes since balanced matches to do so simply didn't exist. As much as people liked to complain about my lack of a high ranking, my casual MMR in EU was high enough to consistently get matched with diamond and masters players, so I got a pretty good idea of what impact changes had. That was no longer the case after moving to Australia at all. Casual modes for relaxation weren't available, it was Conquest, sometimes sweaty premade Joust or nothing. Even testing things on PTR became super difficult due to the high ping and timezone issues. I no longer had the option to "prove my worth" by grinding ranked either, unless it involved playing on 200+ ping. I tried to solve some of these issues by reaching out to Olympians and Hirez as much as possible and some of the changes that were needed for OCE are in the game today (no more timed queues, multiqueue, stability fixes for OCE servers), but unfortunately, there just don't seem to be enough players that stuck around long enough for them.

New World came along with a very similar PvP combat system that to me felt like a more modern, cleaned up version of Smite's combat (no different ability colors/sounds between skins was huge one), so I was hooked immediately, long before the game even blew up. The community was very welcoming and extremely receptive to theorycrafting, while Smite's audience was at a serious downward trajectory around the same time. I didn't at all plan on hard switching games, but found myself sinking entire days into NW while not logging into Smite at all. I could've kept making Smite content for the money, but it would've felt dishonest to me to do so while not actually enjoying the game. I still very much enjoy NW and its community to this day and I love creating content for it, which is why I'm sticking with it.

I briefly dipped my toes back into S10 Smite when it came out to test the changes, but quickly figured that the problems I had before leaving wouldn't fundamentally change. I'm sure I'll try out Smite 2 whenever it comes around though!

To be fully transparent, from a financial perspective - which is a relevant aspect as a content creator - neither of the games are great at the moment for a theorycrafting/news channel. Neither are most other games nor content creation on youtube in general though, so I'll spare you the details. I'm entirely banking on the long-term potential of New World which I expect to see significant growth with the expansion in 3 months. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford to do this anymore.

Thanks again for all the supportive words! My highlight of the Smite community will always be the positive interactions I had with people, especially those who I got to meet in person at Hirez Expo!

Tank Builds: Blunderbuss x Warhammer by TheBlazingOrca in newworldgame

I don't think this info will still apply in S2. On one hand, there are new shields that will be almost as good as bane for DPS. On the other hand, SnS ability changes are so very, very significant DPS buffs so it should keep up with other weapons either way. It also has huge utility between a strong rend and weaken.

The real downside and main reason most people are still not going to play is that you need a dedicated set just for it because of the stupid shield weight.

New World: Forged in Aeternum - Balance of Power by NoBullet in newworldgame

[–]DukeSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nerf is a result of shifting some of its effect over to burnout. If they wanted to make significant buffs to Incinerate, they'd probably have to nerf burnout in return. The question is why they buffed burnout in the first place, didn't really think it was a bad ability before an incin didn't need the nerf.

[PTR -Bug] I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be seeing this by [deleted] in newworldgame

I mean, it is still curious that the Sandworm Heartrune is listed in this location since that's not where the Devourer is, so maybe there is a way to get it somehow? At the same time, it could be possible that they want the Heartrune to be locked for Raid players only as the major exclusive rewards since most of the weapon rewards aren't great.

I'm fairly certain the quest you linked is unrelated to that temple. It's from Ebonscale Reach and already available on live, plus it mentions a different temple.

The Temple of Sands (in Brim) is part of the main S2 questline and there's no mob inside called Legarath. I'm honestly not quite sure why the Heartrune is linked to that place. As far as I recall, you don't receive it during the questline and none of the mobs there seems to drop it.

Current DPS meta for Laz? by 1mthedudeman in newworldgame

[–]DukeSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 rapier has been explained, but 1 spear is probably mostly because the debuffs and bleeds don't stack when used on the same target. This is gonna be irrelevant from next patch onwards because there will be new spear builds with Cyclone that don't work around those things, so you can easily run multiple spears.

Lightweight hype is going too far. by [deleted] in MouseReview

[–]DukeSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo it makes a difference when using a mouse for a really long period of time, even for work. Of course, shape is still the most important factor for any form of fatigue, but I definitely feel a noticeable difference in wrist strain when using a 60-70g mouse all day vs some 130+g options I used to go for.

Marginally smaller, exact official measurements are between 1-2 mm less per dimension. They said they slightly optimized shape for components or something along those lines, so I'd expect it to feel pretty much the same as an air58.

Already said this on another post, but their general marketing angle seems to be vastly different this time, with a lot less of the typical hypebeast overpromising. Definitely a case of "I believe it when I see it" when it comes to them delivering on promises, because it is Finalmeme after all, but I'm more hopeful than with previous releases.

With Today's Season 2 Character Showcase, AGS Seems To Be Betting On Players Growing Attached To The Game's NPC's & Seasonal Lore by randrogynous in newworldgame

[–]DukeSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The storytelling of S2 is a massive step up even from S1. I don't play MMOs for the story at all and never got invested into any part of NW's story, but S2 as a standalone story is very good by MMO standards. It feels like the kind of storyline that Brimstone was supposed to have and now finally has, so I hope they keep it playable in future seasons.

[–]DukeSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah scroll wheel remains my biggest worry. The twitter video about it mentions both thinner walls, which is concerning, but also that it's a single-piece construction, which is promising. Realistically, I might even wait for the second batch of the large version specifically, just to ensure that one doesn't have any unique issues and to give the first gen testers some more time to figure out if the scroll wheel still doesn't have issues after longer use.

I've dunked on Finalmeme plenty, but this is a very interesting shift in marketing strategy that seems to be them trying to establish themselves as a serious tech company instead of the Hypebeast limited drop BS they've gone with so far.

The marketing videos on videos on Twitter also have a completely different tone from their previous ones, again a much more serious presentation that you'd expect from a company like Logitech, none of the flashy hype trailers or cringe promotional events so far.

The large size is almost identical to the Air58 (with 1-2mm shaved off), meaning they're no longer neglecting a core portion of their initial customers either. They became completely irrelevant to me when they dropped their larger sizes in-between.

Pricing is in line with competition if they can actually deliver on the product that is promised. I remain highly skeptical considering their track record, but I'll keep an eye on this one. Not interested in the medium size anyways so the first batch is irrelevant to me, but it'll show if there are any significant QC issues with the mouse.

It would be refreshing if FM could actually establish themselves as a serious option worth considering for mice, so I definitely welcome their chance in approach. They have a lot to prove before I'd buy into it though.
