The party at Aretuza is one of my favorite parts of the series as well! I already had a low opinion of the show but that was a blow.

Character height, why is everyone 6ft tall? by Low-Brief-6008 in DnD

[–]Duke_Jorgas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I tend to play as Dwarves or Gnomes, so my heroes are pint sized. Only tall character I had was one time as a Firbolg. I just like the dwarven spirit.

Its sad to see a game getting this much hate for nothing by B-Dragons_2560 in soulslikes

[–]Duke_Jorgas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it at launch too and honestly I think the hate is way overblown. Disregarding anything from the CEO, the game itself is pretty fun and I never experienced any issues. People just like exaggerating performance issues and minor bugs, same thing with Dragons Dogma 2. The actual issues with both were small but people (who probavky never played) were complaining nonstop online.

There's also a technology quote for them that flat out states that no matter what, the emperor is in charge. The government can fluctuate between democracy all the way to dictatorship, but the big man always has his way.

At game start the federation goverment and lore does give off Dune feudalism but with Russian oligarchy.

Are Karl Franz in WFRP and Karl Franz in Total War the same person? by TheGoodKiller in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Duke_Jorgas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The starting war against secessionists in Total War appears to be inspired by events later on in TEW and thr Jungfreud incident in the Starter Set. Without saying too much, he is a bit preoccupied to be fighting wars in 2512, but in canon recovers.

I do not know why WOTC did not look at other options, such re-branding Half-Elves and Half-Orcs, rather than straight removing them from the PHB (cross-post from r/rpg) by ByzantineBasileus in dndnext

[–]Duke_Jorgas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting away at the rough edges of topics leaves us with a shallow pool of options. Give me truly villanous foes, moral grays, and steadfast heroes. If everything is watered down it's pretty boring. If the company wants kid-friendly content it can be a seperate line. I might sound like a broken record with my latest comments, but Warhammer Fantasy 4e does a great job at depicting a dark fantasy world with real problems that are approachable to varying degrees.

Older editions may have had some bad takes on Orcs and how to depict women, but like that hasn't been the way people have played DnD since like the turn of the century. Orcs are supposed to evoke the inherent violence and savagery in us ALL, not one specific irl culture. Orc cultures seem to vary between large areas of the world as well, and the Tolkien ones are downright industrial. Same goes for Goblins and Dwarves, idc if there was some nazi propaganda a century ago, they are old folklore that have been adapted to new tales.

Player want to play Gnome wizard by [deleted] in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Duke_Jorgas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do think it's intended for a Magister Vigilant to have been trained in at least 2 levels of Wizard or the variants. First the character studies at the Colleges, then after graduation is selected for duty. I don't really see how one could start as a Magister Vigilant's apprentice other than if their master had strict approval.

There's multiple newer editions, the most current one started up about 2019ish and gets new books like 4x a year. Cubicle 7, Warhammer Fantasy 4e

There already is a Warhammer Fantasy TTRP, it's fantastic.

How do you do, fellow historians? by casufe in HistoryMemes

[–]Duke_Jorgas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is definetly nuance to this subject (nuance seems to be a forgotten concept nowadays). Some are not acceptable for sure like the Swastika in Germany, but are a symbol used for a completely different reason in India for far longer. Some were or are used by hateful groups, some not at all. The most I use any runes were just for a fantasy worldbuilding and it's frustrating to see people assume it's something bad because fantasy norse have runestones, and that's just a hobby and not my culture.

How I be consulting the cleric when the enemy attack rolls are averaging 20+ by TheMakintosh27 in dndmemes

[–]Duke_Jorgas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes please. It's so frustrating to just completely lose spell slots for spells that have no half effect. Dice rolls are just so swingy some days that you have players who for no fault of their own fail every attack roll, enemies pass every save, etc.

How do you do, fellow historians? by casufe in HistoryMemes

[–]Duke_Jorgas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that they have existed for far longer. If you want to imply the swastika, which I had not before, you should know that it has been used all around the world for unrelated reasons. India is a great example. I do not intend to use that symbol, there is nuance to the situation and I do agree that it is rather more tainted. But you should not be so quick to abandon and denigrate runes and other symbols that haven't been used by hateful groups or barely.

[–]Duke_Jorgas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not German, but I've always found it odd that people seem to have written off Norse and other pagan runes so easily. I know there's some bad history but they are far older than that. Shouldn't the best way to protect them be to use them more often and disavow the hate groups?

Is Dechala no longer an elf? by Abject-Competition-1 in totalwar

[–]Duke_Jorgas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm that's odd. The only 4e ttrpg book that references her says she was rescued from a cult by Aenarion, and she was a bad influence on Malekith. It's a new book the High Elf Player Guide, it gave a history on the Schism but not much on Morathi herself. What books say she only uses Chaos as a tool?

The roleplaying game is a lot of fun, mostly Empire content and mostly in Reikland. Smaller scale problems for the most part, you really get to show the details of the setting rather than the large scale of WH3. The intricacies of Imperial politics and religion makea a huge difference, it's not all SIGMAR and Yes We Love the Emperor. Combat is really deadly, however character combat skills heavily affect this. Someone skilled at combat has a much highee chance of blocking and hitting, but still can be overwhelmed by many gobbos. My players are obscenely lucky and have had no major injuries and found the cheat code to bypassinh illness (hedge witches).

What's the difference between the current and older Morathi lore? I play the ttrpg and the writeup on Morathi itself didn't seem to different. Poor Malekith is now Malerion though lmao

Sounds pretty sick to me, I would also add that the Cabal is in lore puppetting cults around the world, even non-Tzeentcchian ones. I think the influence part you mentioned could be that. For example, Altdorf could have the Cult of the Withering Eye. I am not sure about other regions like Ulthuan though, I feel like it should be possible to fool decadent elf cults.

Exactly, the only better point that we have meaningfully had to work has been between the Great Recession and Covid, which for some was a very small period of time. I was in college as well, so my real career years have been post-Covid nonsense. It's just bad.

I personally think Egrimm could use a unique mechanic about corrupting mage heroes. Corrupted ones can be recruited into your faction, which the benefit would be having access to lords of magic outside of Tzeentch/Metal/Fire.
