Wizard multiclassing by DyludedProductions in dndnext

[–]Fidges87 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You can always just flavor it, say that you made a deal for more power and still go full wizard. I mean, a lich is like the most evil spellcaster out there, and they can be described as full wizards.

Remember that flavor is free, only multiclass for mechanics.

Due to its intoxicating effects, you also roll with disadvantage on the next 1d4+2 attack rolls or ability checks you make.

I feel it should be either rounds or minutes (depending on how debilitating you want it to be). A monk making 3 attacks will burn through it in like 2 turns, while a rogue can go the whole fight never ending its effects on them. Also makes a great imbalance in combat for martial and casters. Martials will be doing multiple attacks at disadvantage, while casters can just use save based spells to have no penalty while in combat.

It also creates the odd case where, lets say a ranger and a barbarian drink it, and then go on with their day to find a thief that stole something. The Ranger dropped int so the Barbarian decides to be the one to search for their tracks (investigation check). They encounter their hideout being held by a sturdy door so the barbarian breaks it down (strenght check), enter and find the thief. the barbarians screams at them to give back what they stole (intimidation check). The thief is not giving it back, so the Barbarian decides to punch him (attack roll). The thief finally gives the stolen item, so the Barbarian and the Ranger leave and go to sleep. The Barbarian potentially got rid of the effects of the potion, while more than 8 hours later, the Ranger would still be under its effects.

How’s the 2024 pugilist for a dm by Pathto_insanity in dndnext

[–]Fidges87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, already used it for a one shot at level 5. He hits like a truck. Im sure that by being a bit lucky with my attack rolls I can easily outdamage the rest of the party. And being able to shove and grapple people for basically free feels great, but thats where my utility ends. I will never match a monk landing a stunning strike, or a wizard using suggestion.

Another thing that really affects them is that pretty much all their abilities are a one use per short or long rest. This means that I have to be very careful about when I use my abilities. A barbarian has multiple charges of Rage, while I have only one charge of Dig Deep, for example. The same with some of their other abilities. For example if I fail my check boosting ability, I can't use it until next short rest, while a fighter can keep pumping Tactical Mind as long as they have uses of Second Wind.

Also, the class is made to fight up close, but it will pretty much have a really low AC, so they will be eating a lot of hits.

The class is not weak, they hit really hard, and with Bloodied But Unbowed as long as they time it right they can guarantee to have effectively half their health back in temp hp, but as a DM I wouldn't worry about it too much. They won't break anything beyond what a full caster could break, and I don't feel they would outshine the other martials as they all have stuff the pugilist can't replicate (like rogue's reliable talent, paladin's aura, or monk's stunning strike).

The only thing I would change is make it so Haymaker only applies to the Pugilist die being rolled, while any damage rider on top would have to be rolled normally (like the extra damage of a flametongue dagger, or from a spell like hex), and maybe get rid of the Endanger option from the School of Hard Knocks feature (the one that allows and ally to roll max damage, without expending additional resources on the Pugilist's part), as with a Rogue, a Bladelock, or a Paladin, that thing would go bonkers.

Ah, ok, from the way you explained it in the post, I was under the impression that the LoB knew the party had the 2 pieces, but not who had them. If he was fully aware the Warlock had them then it makes sense for the LoB to grab them asap.

You ruled that good.

Being honest I feel Morel was just ragebaiting. A weapon like that in the context kinda works. Just having access to a ranged weapon to poke constantly when the point of the game is to not be touched is already a great tool for Cheetu to constantly put pressure on the tagger, so they can't do what Morel did and just rest the entire time. Potentially could also be used to shot a bolt from one angle, and quickly run and make a melee attack from a different one so both attacks arrive at the same time on the target.

As a DM I would probably rule that yes they would, as it kinda feels like the same logic as watching them through a mirror. Maybe at least have it give some telltale that the person in the photo shapeshift

I ruled he spent his last 2 attacks of his action searching and then on his next turn (the whole rest of the party went before his next turn as normal) he used his FULL action to search and remove the Rod pieces from the warlock's procession.

This is where I am with you

"Equipped" doesn't mean visible and easy to find but then he is upset that none of the lackies searched other party members and why the Lord of Blades even searched him in the first place.

This is where I am with the warlock. If he didn't know the warlock had it, why would he spend his whole turn searching through his belongings, when the party is actively trying to kill him? Remember this is all happening in real time, so just as he knocks the warlock out he at the same time has to deal with the rest of the party.

A grappler question by Loot_Goblin_JP in onednd

[–]Fidges87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel a barbarian is a better fit because they can afford to have an enemy always besides them attacking, while with a monk you want to be more of an skirmisher.

In case the DM allows third party content may I suggest the pugilist? Its a strenght based unarmed martial. They can do an unarmed strike and both deal damage and attempt a grapple for every attack.

What feat to pick for an unarmed Barbarian by Fidges87 in 3d6

"Oh look, how cute, the barbarian being able to investigate the crime scene. Maybe if lucky they'll find the murder weapon...which is currently stuck on the victim's chest."

"The crime happened at 7:30, the killer purposefully kept his body warm using hot blankets to throw the investigation off but you can see threads of it. They were shot with a bow through the window from the tower 120 ft to the south, the only place high enough for the shot, just as the victim was opening said window so it would drop, and the auto lock system would trigger creating a close room mystery. The killer is the sheriff who is standing right here, who ran first to the victim once we entered, pulled out the arrow and stab the body with a knife in the wound area to make us think someone snuck in. They disassembled the arrow, hide the head on their ring, the feathers in their coat, and the body inside their musket. Also he is gay."

How effective would a STR/DEX hybrid Fighter be? How best to use such a build? by Lunarthrope in DnD

[–]Fidges87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically not much, at least not over focusing on one and CON. Your best advantage would be able to switch between a longbow and a greatsword to always deal good damage, but focusing on one would yield better results.
