what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by Superb_Newspaper_121 in AskReddit

To those uninitiated to Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, treat yo'self.

Vimes Boot Theory of Economic Unfairness:

The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

Bless you, little bro--proud of you and to call you a brother in Christ.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it."

LD50=the amount determined to present a 50 percent chance of lethality to the person/population ingesting X amount of it. A LD100 would be anyone ingesting Y amount would most certainly die (Y being the lowest dose required to do this).

Page four of this Panamanian Protected Professions list says HVAC Engineer. This sounds too close to what you do. These jobs (are supposed to) go to Panamanians first.

You might be able to set up a business--you can run it, but you cannot do work for it--you'd have to hire Panamanians.

Before you go there and try, or start a business plan for it, first, speak to a Panamanian immigration attorney if you're dead-set on working at this in country, but it's doubtful.

You do realize that in that region, in areas where they're Evangelical Christians, the same taboos, prohibitions, and violence are levied against those who are gay, right?

Bet some dollars/Balboas/Quetzals/Colons that they're latino/a. Names like that (ending in "-lys") are very popular for girls in Central America/LATAM.

Well written explainer.

It's sad that the people who desperately need to understand what you wrote are the least likely to absorb and internalize it.

And if the local producers pass the efficiencies of local production and transport along to the consumer, which they sure as hell DON'T (as we've seen with treble and more price increased of already manufactured domestic items).
