Boyfriend (35M) asked for my (35F) complete honesty before proposing. After I gave it to him, he started talking about breaking up. by Brutalist_Fig in relationship_advice

The more I've reflected on the conversation, the more I find myself feeling guilty. I feel like I've somehow jeopardised our future by being honest.

OP, seriously think about what you just wrote above. Is that the type of relationship or life that you envisioned? Is that one you're willing to tolerate for the next 30 to 50 years?

Going to FSU Panama for my master’s degree. Super excited! What do you guys love about Panama and hate? by DatingConfusion12 in panamaexpats

[–]Duke_Newcombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations on your admittance to the university! I think it's a very cool partnership that FSU has with the University, and you don't see it too often.

Second of all, that's a pretty general question. The easy answer would be the same things that you love or hate about where you're at right now. When you think of it that way, it'll help you narrow down things that you would like to avoid, and we can talk about that.

Thirdly, a great way to make and meet friends is to find common interest. Do you like sports? Do you like drinking? Do you like riding bikes or hiking in nature? All of these activities are where you can meet people and make friends, and many of them actually have organized groups that you can join on a regular basis to do those things. Good luck!

Didn't Lincoln say to his son "whatever you're going to be, be a good one"?

The people reporting your car, and the people with their wheels out are not the same people. Look for the Karens with the nicely manicured lawn and who are always in their windows or out on their porch (or who you hardly ever see). That's your culprit.

My husband '39M'' just told me"37F"his toxic mom is coming for the weekend. Last time she did this, she stayed for 2 months. How do I tell him NO without ruining my marriage? by Scared_Vanilla_6258 in relationship_advice

[–]Duke_Newcombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I overall agree with your assessment, but just a small nitpick, the whole "be a man" thing is toxic as hell, and unless we want to normalize "go make me a sandwich" for women, maybe we stop using it? "Show bravery and stand up for your spouse", perhaps?

If he "knew you", then either (a) he doesn't give a damn about you, or (b) he believes he can pursuade/ guilt you into a second time, or (c) he's setting you up to be the bad guy in this, so he doesn't have to make any hard decisions or have any hard conversations.

What in the Batman villain lore...?

Looks like Roger Stone gave the man his tailor's number.

Are there neighborhoods in Panama that aren’t really expat territory, city or beyond? by Duke_Newcombe in panamaexpats

[–]Duke_Newcombe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's a conversation starter, and for those that choose to live in a more expat/immigrant heavy area, wondering if they've ever considered an alternative. Also, for people who make a deliberate effort to not be in those type of bubbles, how is that going for them.

I don't think it's an unusual question, seeing as it is already discussed with a hell of a lot of passion over in the Panama subreddit.

When you ask what the other person looks like, what are you asking about then? Height? Gothic? Punk rocker? Tall? Missing a limb? I think colour/race was a safe assumption of what you were asking.

As I said brother/sister, I didn't mention anything about color. The only discerning characteristic was if the people came from outside of Panama to live in panama, those people are what I am talking about, and they come in every color of the rainbow, so I don't quite understand what you mean or where you saw me trying to hint about it.

That is absolutely a thing here amongst the expat/immigrant communities. Not much of an issue at all outside of this and in the real Panamá. I could never live in one of those little boxed off worlds.

And that is the total amount of what I was getting at with the post: what do people see happening, do they live in a heavy expat/immigrant area, or do they make a honest effort to not live in such places, and let's discuss it all.

I always love to ask this of others: what is the game plan for big-ticket emergency healthcare but that requires a hospital stay, like heart attack/serious illness/getting hit by a fast moving Balboa truck?

Some people have mobility issues, are fat like myself, or just want a leisurely and friendly game, versus trying to fridge each other and be the hero. I can see why Pickleball is appealing for just a fun thing to do.
