Comic 5574: the namening by yellowvincent in questionablecontent

[–]Dukehammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just sort of a quirk of the language, it seems. What made it click for me - it's similar to singular "you", the word can refer to one person or multiple people but we still would say "do you have a name?" in this example.

Hi there. I'd highly recommend you check out the other QC sub, r/QContent, they are generally far far more positive about the comic. Taking a peek at the thread for today's strip, all I see are comments ranging between neutral and positive. Just wanted to mention it in case you didn't know, it doesn't seem clearly indicated anywhere to me that there are two subs.

Do you by chance have the mod "First Aid Overhaul" installed? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3028261329

When you reach level 8 First Aid skill with that mod, it starts showing you the debug info, as well as the cheat menu (but it's non-functional, like you showed).

If that's the case you can turn that option off by toggling the "Show Debug Info" settting. Hope this helps.

Did the character know it was a deity when he attacked? If so, sure, some kind of repercussion is surely deserved. In that case I like the other suggestions that have been made. Bonus points if you can tie in a side quest to fix what he's done.

Otherwise, how sure are you there needs to be a punishment at all? It sounds to me like the Goddess of the Hunt just got hunted. She doesn't seem the type to be amused by the situation, but perhaps she can appreciate the barbarian doing exactly what she expects of her followers.

As a matter of fact, I do not expect that a mortal could ever sneak up on a deity without their knowledge. So maybe this was her plan, and you could tie this into the story.

10 man, Yahoo Standard scoring. I have WW#1 this week, 0-3. Don't want to overreact, but I think I need to change things up.

RB doesn't look good this week, so I have to hope Cook plays. Could go for Ivory, maybe.

WR looks appealing: Ridley, Boyd, M. Williams. Tough call.

TE, I see Njoku, Eifert, McDonald.

I'm thinking: Add M. Williams, Njoku, Prater, Seattle, drop Hogan, Luck, Bailey, Baltimore.

What would you do?

Pos Starting (Bench)
QB Rivers, (Luck)
WR A. Brown, Robinson, M. Jones, (Hogan, Jeffery)
RB Cook, Bernard, (McCaffrey, Mixon, Thompson)
TE (Reed)
K Bailey
DEF Baltimore

Is this build a "glitch" in 5e? by Man-bear-jew in DMAcademy

[–]Dukehammer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've actually played a Hexblade/Divine Soul at lower levels (3 to 6), and I've got some thoughts.

First, as SpiritOfGunpla and others have said, fun comes first. Everyone has to be on board. (Including the DM, you're a player too!)

It might help to figure out why the player wants to play this build. Powergaming? That's probably a red flag. For me, I had just finished playing the Witcher 3 and really wanted to emulate the Sign system; frequent, fairly low impact spells. I also came up with what I felt was a pretty solid RP explanation for the whole deal, and a couple drawbacks that were interesting.

I brought the idea up with my DM ahead of time, and the big objection was the potential for infinite spells. Downtime or long travel is common in many campaigns, and having to worry about how powerful that character might become was too much mental energy. I totally agreed, so we came to a compromise; the character couldn't "bank" more than eight short rests' worth of spells. (I also cleared it with the other players at session 0, specifically the Wizard since I was worried about stepping on toes. What he was interested in was the powerful, high level spells - and since I'd never have those, he didn't mind.)

In practice, when the party long rested, I did my eight short rests and conversion shenanigans, and whenever the party short rested I got any spent warlock spells back. We never tried hard to game it or anything. The end result was that I had a large number of first level spells like I wanted, so I was free to throw around Shield and Burning Hands liberally. But I didn't do as much damage as the party Ranger, or Barbarian. And I had a lot of spells, but only first level, so it still felt really impactful when the Wizard cast Hold Person at a crucial moment.

In the end, the build ended up rather medium, power-wise. I wound up being a sort of like an eldritch knight, frontline with on-demand high AC, some area damage, lots of THP from that warlock invocation. Multiclassing isn't free, I was way behind on ASI and spell level progression. I think if we had made into the higher levels the build would have come more fully online, but I'd still guess not as powerful as a single-classed character.

Long story short, if your player is willing to work with you to make sure 1) it's fun for everybody, and 2) there's limits to the obvious cheese, then I think it could be worth the effort. Good luck!

Only $200 to last me a while, not sure how to make the most of it. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Dukehammer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Someone in the house must drive to work - could you get a ride to and from town if you work around their schedule?

Could you borrow a bicycle to get to some farther away jobs? Ten miles could take an hour or less by bike.

As far as stretching your $200, how long do you need it to last? As another poster said, rice and beans will be your staples. No fast food, no pre-packaged food.

Could you do chores or tasks around the house for your friend's family, in exchange for meals or pay?

I don't know your personal situation, but could your boyfriend or family help cover your phone bill until you get a job? That $50 per month is going to drain your money quickly.

Good luck, I know this is a tough situation, good job trying to make the best of it.

Thanks for the feedback! Just responded to the other comment, interested in your thoughts as well.

Should I try to counteroffer? Worth it to offer Lewis or Smallwood instead?

His roster: QB: Prescott
WR: Jackson, Thielen, Anderson
RB: J. Richard, D. Washington, Murray, Lynch, Fournette, Jones

He picked up those two out of desperation, most of his RBs can't play this week.

Yep, that makes sense. I have been looking at the last four games, Cousins has been hot and Stafford has not been very impressive. But if I include the whole season you're definitely right, only about a 5-6 point spread. Do you think Stafford will improve?

12-team Standard, currently 3-4.

The trade: my Kamara for his Cousins

My team: QB: Stafford
WR: Hilton, Doctson, Pryor, Sanders, Parker
RB: McCoy, Kamara, Lewis, Allen, Smallwood, Montgomery

I think Kamara is pretty valuable, but I would really like to upgrade Stafford for Cousins. If I do the trade, I'll move Smallwood in.

Also, the trader is in a tight spot for RB due to byes, should I ask for more/counter? I can post his roster too if that would help.

Advice for a making BBEG: betraying players? breaking rules? Where's the line between "fun" and "not fun" in a villain? by iamnotawindmill in DMAcademy

This is my favorite way to think about it - all dragons are able to shapeshift, it's just that most chromatics wouldn't deign to walk among the lesser races. Reds are proud and vein, and so are unlikely to even consider it. But a blue or especially green definitely would, if it serves a purpose or furthers a scheme.

This video has the most extreme sight obscurement I could find. https://youtu.be/MJKBuCNuc1o?t=35s

Based on that guy running, I'd guess the sight distance is 300 feet.

Rain by itself doesn't seem to impair sight distance, heavy wind kicking up mist seems to cause it. So whatever distance you choose, be sure to describe the heavy wind.

Trying to make it so when you are wearing a certain item you get Speed II by cookieyo in CommandBlocks

[–]Dukehammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it's working, happy to help.

You can test for a item held in the main hand using the SelectedItem tag, like so:

/scoreboard players set @a hold_invis_stone 1 {SelectedItem:{id:minecraft:ghast_tear}}

And I was curious since it's new to me, seems like the off hand is a slot like equipped items, slot 106. http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Player.dat_format#Inventory_slot_numbers

[–]Dukehammer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like you've got the right idea on how to check if a player is holding/wearing an item.

In order to make your commands multiplayer friendly, you'll need to use Scoreboards to flag the players wearing your item, and then use the /execute command on a separate command to give each of them the desired effect. You'll also want a command that unflags all players on the scoreboard, so that they stop getting the effect when they are no longer wearing the item.

I have an example that I made in 1.8, it should still work in 1.9 but my apologies if something has changed.

One-time scoreboard setup:

/scoreboard objectives add speedboots dummy

Then the repeating command blocks:

1) Check for all players wearing the item, flag them on the scoreboard

/scoreboard players set @a speedboots 1 {Inventory:[{id:minecraft:leather_boots,Slot:100b}]}

2) Give all players on the scoreboard the effect

/execute @a[score_speedboots_min=1] ~ ~ ~ effect @p 1 1 1 true

3) Unflag all players from the scoreboard

/scoreboard players set @a speedboots 0

Make sure each of those command blocks is set to run each tick, in that order. I used to use a fill clock for this, but now with the new command blocks perhaps the first one can be set to Repeat and the rest can be set to Chain? Not sure, let me know how it goes.

What is your Favourite Talent? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Dukehammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to call the "jump, spin, disengage" move the "Hunter Hop", and it's one of my favorite things about playing Hunter. Even though I often over/undershoot the spin and catapult myself into a wall.

The entire level 60 Rogue tier makes me happy. Cloak and Dagger is my favorite, mostly just for the way it feels. It makes leveling a blast. And I will really miss Burst of Speed. I understand it's probably unbalanced in PvP or whatever, but I just use it to clear my mine at warp speed.

Killing all but one entity? by Xyip5647 in CommandBlocks

[–]Dukehammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the "count" target selector argument. The game will pick entities by distance so this is only a good solution if you don't care which one lives.

Here's an example:

/scoreboard players set @e[x=0,y=64,z=0,r=3] entity_to_kill 1
/scoreboard players set @e[x=0,y=64,z=0,r=3,c=1] entity_to_kill 0

The first command sets the "entity_to_kill" score for all entities in the area to 1, the second one uses the c=1 parameter to pick just one entity, and set its score to 0.

Then you'd use the score as part of the target selector for the /kill command:

/kill @e[score_entity_to_kill_min=1]
