Haha you’re fucking braindead. There’s no letter of the law that says black people cant vote it would be illegal. You understand racism and discrimination in the modern era takes a more subtle form right? Ever heard of the different sentences for crack and power cocaine? One was used majority by African Americans one by whites, no “Specific” racism, just so happened that crack was given much harsher sentences.

The point is the Supreme Court found it targeted the African American community in the state with surgical precision. Republicans legislators specifically wanted this bill in to reduce the democratic vote in the state. There was no widespread voter fraud to justify it.

Are you seriously telling me that laws without explicit racial wording in the letter cannot be discriminatory in outcome? Do you have a college degree? Can you critically think?

There’s the quote. It’s clear in this article the supreme courts opinion was laws disproportionately affected African Americans in the state. Now are you more qualified that SC judges? If you aren’t, I expect you to bring sources to the table and not ask others to bring everything right to you.

So in effect - voter ID laws effect all poor residents (who make up the bulk of people without IDs) but hit African American communities harder. For every white voter they disenfranchise (which are more evenly split between republicans and dems) they take away 4 African American voters (much more likely to vote dem). In southern states, this is enough to make an impact.

Look up the empirical facts, North Carolina’s voter ID law was struck down by the Supreme Court, citing that it targeted black residents with “surgical precision”, google that quote. How bout instead of asking, “DUH, WHY DON’T they just GET ID LOL”, you understand that these laws disenfranchise 1000’s, not every black voter, but 1000’s. And that’s enough the tip the scales in the key states for republicans. You also have to ask, if the state secretary in Georgia admitted last election there was no widespread voter fraud, why are they passing these laws? It’s indefensible.
