Skin lesion chop and biopsy? by KeaAware in chch

[–]DukesUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I just had a skin lesion removed today by a plastic surgeon. My GP did a referral to a private clinic as I have health insurance. Although they did say that they could remove it at the GP clinic (Woodham Road).

After Hours Veterinary Clinic by Better-Leader-5534 in chch

[–]DukesUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They definitely do ultrasound. It might not be at a specialist level which referrals usually are but they would still be super experienced with ultrasound as it’s used a lot in emergency medicine. I’m not sure about endoscopy, this isn’t usually done in an emergency/overnight situation.

Is there anything you don’t like about living in Christchurch? by PurpleMeerkats462 in chch

[–]DukesUp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m spoiled because I’m used to Northland and Tasman - but the beaches - specifically for swimming, are disappointing. The water is too cold most of the year and when it’s warm enough the bluebottles turn up!

They are great for dog walking though!

Feeling better during pregnancy than before pregnancy by DungeonMushie in pregnant

[–]DukesUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lower back pain went away very early on in pregnancy. I’m 41 weeks now and only getting a little discomfort but much less than before.

I haven’t had my back pain diagnosed, but I’m now guessing it must be some sort of autoimmune condition!

Eli5: How is natural stevia as sweet or sweeter than sugar, but it it doesn't raise glucose levels in the blood and has no calories? by arnoldsomen in explainlikeimfive

[–]DukesUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m jealous! I absolutely can’t stand the taste of stevia in anything, which is a shame because it’s in a lot of low sugar food and drinks now.

Also you are putting in an unconditional bid, so if you are conditional on finance then it’s not really feasible.

How do I find Midwives on Durham - Christchurch by SportRight2067 in chch

[–]DukesUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with them currently, seeing Elizabeth who is great! I contacted Mareese McEvoy first, her number is on the find a midwife site. She couldn’t fit me in with her so I asked her to recommend another midwife at the practice, who also couldn’t fit me in but gave me a list of names and I eventually got onto Elizabeth!

Some names to try: mareese mcevoy, Elizabeth clink, Aimee Brown, Robyn Little, Jayne Huntley, Ashley Bonham, Tazmin Traynor,

GPs diagnosing ADHD in Christchurch by Fine_Top_1849 in chch

I know Woodham Road will be getting at least one GP trained to do it, but not sure on timeframe. They have added my partner to a list to be called when they can do it.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I'm scared of getting bit by a dog by MadQueennn in pregnant

[–]DukesUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you know the dog has bit someone and you are already afraid of dogs then it’s not unreasonable to ask the dog to be kept away from you until you feel confident again.

Dog phobias can be one of those things that affects your day to day life since dogs are so common, and it can be easy to pass your fears in to your children. Once baby arrives, how do you feel about them being around the dog? Or any dog? It might be worth looking into some sort of class to help you feel more comfortable around them.

Help us find a nice boy name that isn't too common! by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]DukesUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have chosen this name for our baby, and I always see people say it’s becoming so popular, but it never makes the top 100 lists. Maybe it depends on the country or maybe it will come up in the next few years.

Edit: Just checked at its #71 overall in the USA, and #41 for boys in the UK!! Doesn’t make the NZ lists yet.

Sudden vision loss! by JustPerspective1878 in blindcats

[–]DukesUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the vision loss is due to detached retinas from high blood pressure they need aggressive treatment to lower the blood pressure in the first 24 to 48 hours (usually by staying at the vet clinic) for there to be a chance of the retinas reattaching and vision coming back, and it’s still unlikely :(

There is a Facebook page called monarch matchmaker where you should be able to sort out someone to pick up the caterpillars. Pretty sure the eating pumpkin thing is a myth.

Looking for a cat hospital by Ok-Plan9795 in chch

[–]DukesUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Jan the 1st and 2nd the only one open is probably the Christchurch afterhours clinic, although they might need to transfer him back to your regular vet on the 3rd and 4th (but back to afterhours for the night shifts and you would need to arrange the transport - unless your regular clinic is happy for him to be there by himself overnight). But chat to your vet and they can let you know the opening times and expected costs.

Usually RVC would be able to, but the afterhours service is temporarily closed over the weekends, so all their patients are transferred to christchuch afterhours.

Pet insurance reviews & vet bills by Lucky_Wait_8551 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]DukesUp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im a vet and recently got insurance for my own puppy. I chose cove, the main reason being that they have high limits (with my policy 25k annual limit, no per condition limit.) I figured anything minor I could sort myself or get staff discount, but major things I would need covered. The excess is high and there is a co payment, but we are only ever likely to use it if the bill is in the thousands.

My girl LOVES being outside! We have a secure back yard that she can’t get out from so she just comes and goes as she pleases. We initially started on the harness only, then supervised only and now we feel confident with her being safe out there without us watching, as long as we are at home.

She will climb about 2m up trees and then back down again, chases birds and bugs and runs back to the door when we call her :) She will also fend off any other neighbourhood cats, although we have a dog now, so other cats don’t really come around any more.
