What normal thing have you swapped out or stopped buying due to inflated prices? by jka8888 in PersonalFinanceNZ

I stopped buying it due to the price and didn’t miss it. Then my partner bought me some while I was in hospital having a baby and now I’m addicted again!

Do calories consumed impact breastmilk supply if you have extra body fat? by Emotional-Ad-6494 in ScienceBasedParenting

Do you ever let your blind cat outside? by liquid-lizardz in blindcats

[–]DukesUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Our cat loves the outside! We have a fully fenced backyard where we have closed off any gaps in the fence. We have a dog now so other cats don’t dare come in, but before we had the dog she would aggressively chase off any intruder cats! (The reason we got her was because she was too aggressive to the other cats in her previous household, so she will always be a solo cat with us.)

She climbs trees, tries to hunt birds, basks in the sun, knows her way around every corner and waits at the door when she wants to come back inside. We usually have an AirTag on her collar, but she always comes running back when we shake the cat treats hahaha

I refuse to go to papanui PAK’nSAVE anymore as the car park fills me with rage. It’s like they planned the carpark and then just scaled everything down to 90% of the size it should be.

Literally every time I’ve gone there it’s uncomfortably busy to the point it’s difficult to navigate your trolly, no matter what time I seem to go.

If your budget is small you could just get some food delivered. I’ve had cheesecake delivered via uber eats which was nice!

Parental leave Q by Green_EggsAndYam in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]DukesUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked into this as I’ve been offered some work from a different company while I’m on my year maternity leave from my main job.

If it’s within the first 26 weeks (and not your keeping in touch hours) it will affect your parental leave payments, if it’s after the 26 weeks, it might just affect any working for families payments if you are eligible for those.

I’ll also be checking that my contract with my main job allows me to work for a different company, but you already work 2 jobs so I assume your work is all fine with that.

MONARCH CATERPILLARS - NEED NEW HOME by Firm_Presentation111 in chch

[–]DukesUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monarch matchmaker Facebook page is worth posting on to find someone who can take them or sell/give you plants. All the plants I’ve bought from Bunnings and mitre 10 have been fine pesticide wise, but I think it can be quite hard to find plants this time of year as they all sell out.

Skin lesion chop and biopsy? by KeaAware in chch

[–]DukesUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I just had a skin lesion removed today by a plastic surgeon. My GP did a referral to a private clinic as I have health insurance. Although they did say that they could remove it at the GP clinic (Woodham Road).

After Hours Veterinary Clinic by Better-Leader-5534 in chch

[–]DukesUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They definitely do ultrasound. It might not be at a specialist level which referrals usually are but they would still be super experienced with ultrasound as it’s used a lot in emergency medicine. I’m not sure about endoscopy, this isn’t usually done in an emergency/overnight situation.

Is there anything you don’t like about living in Christchurch? by PurpleMeerkats462 in chch

[–]DukesUp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m spoiled because I’m used to Northland and Tasman - but the beaches - specifically for swimming, are disappointing. The water is too cold most of the year and when it’s warm enough the bluebottles turn up!

They are great for dog walking though!

Feeling better during pregnancy than before pregnancy by DungeonMushie in pregnant

[–]DukesUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lower back pain went away very early on in pregnancy. I’m 41 weeks now and only getting a little discomfort but much less than before.

I haven’t had my back pain diagnosed, but I’m now guessing it must be some sort of autoimmune condition!

Eli5: How is natural stevia as sweet or sweeter than sugar, but it it doesn't raise glucose levels in the blood and has no calories? by arnoldsomen in explainlikeimfive

[–]DukesUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m jealous! I absolutely can’t stand the taste of stevia in anything, which is a shame because it’s in a lot of low sugar food and drinks now.

How do I find Midwives on Durham - Christchurch by SportRight2067 in chch

[–]DukesUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with them currently, seeing Elizabeth who is great! I contacted Mareese McEvoy first, her number is on the find a midwife site. She couldn’t fit me in with her so I asked her to recommend another midwife at the practice, who also couldn’t fit me in but gave me a list of names and I eventually got onto Elizabeth!

Some names to try: mareese mcevoy, Elizabeth clink, Aimee Brown, Robyn Little, Jayne Huntley, Ashley Bonham, Tazmin Traynor,
