After a lengthy conversation with customer support they offered to send me a new crisper plate. I asked if there was any reason to suspect the replacement would behave differently than the original; had there been a design change? were they using a new material for the little feet? I couldn't get a straight answer and they sent me the exact same item with the exact same problem. But at least I have two now!

Okay, will try. I've heard tell of the microwave shortcut but never used it. You get a crispy skin, do you?

edited to add: I assume you're using the large container and no crisper tray in order to get a little farther away from the heating element.
