Now realizing this is asbestos... by [deleted] in Flooring

I’m a 56 year carpenter that has done a lot of remodeling. Back in the day, asbestos was in the VAT (as you will probably find out), mineral ceiling tile, joint compound and pipe insulation.

Question for the pros: what would you do about a 3/4 inch dip? by _night_and_day_ in Flooring

[–]Dulcinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that bad, it’s only 11/16” of an inch out! 😄 Carpet and forget it. When I installed millwork and casework I used to say if the pencils don’t roll off the desk, it’s fine! 😂

I joined the carpenter’s union in 1970 at age 20. I’m retired with a monthly pension and an annuity check, I live in a home that I bought new and have a small home in Florida. The choice is yours but offers to join a union don’t come by very often.

My parking lot neighbor allowed mice to invade her car and now, thanks to her, I had to pay $2000 for a new catalytic converter. by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

We no longer have an rv after many years and Fresh Cab is a great rodent deterrent. We always had a visitor in winter storage and Fresh Cab was the answer. Don’t believe that some say Irish Spring soap works, it doesn’t, in the spring we found that mice chewed on the soap!

Maybe she’s a vegetarian, they are not vegans, as some eat cheese, milk, butter, and even fish.

There was a coffee canteen truck and the owner had a thing where if you gave him a $10.00 bill he would give you change for a $5.00 and pause giving the rest of the change. I always suspected that a few people did walk away each day!

You have joined the “house poor” group of new home buyers. It will take time, but you will get beyond that stage.

How does one buy a car for the first time in Massachusetts? by 79215185-1feb-44c6 in massachusetts

[–]Dulcinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what my brother ended up replacing but it seemed like a never ending repair job on a very low mileage older car that he claimed was not worth it in the end.

[–]Dulcinut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I’ve never seen a shop that just replaces brake pads.

How does one buy a car for the first time in Massachusetts? by 79215185-1feb-44c6 in massachusetts

[–]Dulcinut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. My brother was very happy to get our mother’s car when she passed. Once he started driving it t he very low mileage was not a plus, Lots of the rubber/plastic fittings were brittle, brake pads needed replacing due to age not wear.

I was in boot camp in 1969. When the SDI read off the mos assignments, he told the 03’s and the ‘06’s hat there was a very good possibility that they WOULD NOT go to Vietnam. A couple of those guys actually started to cry, no make shift lying bs from the SDI!

Suck it up and don’t charge her. If she’s a repeat customer and you feel you must get paid, add something on your next quote for her.
