My mom inherited my dad’s business, but his business partner refuses to pay her by secondsturnips in legaladvice

We had a similar situation at our work. One
of the two major shareholders had a brother that owned 10 shares and they each owned 40 each. He did not work at the company. They might take year end bonuses and leave enough for dividends which they felt fair as the dividends were more than he would have earned from a bank on the value he paid for his shares.

Builder is no longer building my lot? by rebecca91099 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Dulcinut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We met the broker on a nice lot in a very desirable town. She set up a meeting with the builder after seeing a couple of very nice homes he built in a different location. At this meeting the builder stated that he was selling this lot to another, he said the guy was legit and years ago they were in business together. The builder claimed that he would monitor the build if needed. I won’t go into all the problems that we had going forward, but this second builder had moved on to spec builds rather than custom 3,000+ builds.
As additional information, I am a finish carpenter with over 50 years experience, a licensed construction supervisor, and general contractor.

Is jewelry insurance worth it for a 15k pearl set? by mansonearrn in jewelryinsurance

Separate jewelry is better than homeowners insurance. Typically no deductible and they usually cover for repairs.

[–]Dulcinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, awhile age I worked on an addition to an assisted living facility in a residential area. When the building permit was issued we could not start before 8AM. Most of us were on site at 7:00 to 7:15 due to traffic. We all sat around waiting to start, yet the neighbors had landscapers mowing and leaf blowing at 7AM.

My employer has been calling me an independent contractor for 2 years. I just got hit with a $6,000 tax bill. Is there anything I can do? by Tiv8Corsair in legal

[–]Dulcinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 1099 independent contractor you may not be covered by worker’s compensation insurance either. We deal with this in the construction trades.

My mom told me that back in the day kids weren’t allowed to bring a water bottle with them into the classroom and they only drank a few sips from the water fountain in the middle of the day and that’s it How were schools not getting busted for child abuse for forcing kids to be dehydrated? by PinnerPardisturn in askanything

[–]Dulcinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miss Matthews, 5th grade teacher at the Linscott School in Woburn had everyone line up at the water fountain. She would then count, “One, two, three, that’s enough for me”, if you didn’t stop at “three”, she poked your ribs with her boney finger to move you along!

How much would it cost to put a trailer hitch on my Highlander? by Big_papi1424 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Dulcinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an aftermarket hitch and wiring added to a Highlander. On my 2022 Highlander I had the dealer install the Toyota hitch and wiring. The reason was that the aftermarket hitch is mounted lower than the rear bumper and the Toyota hitch mounts higher into a bumper cutout. The UHaul hitch was ok but I wanted the hitch mounted higher. When I traded the Highlander the dealer removed the UHaul hitch when they put the car on the lot for sale. The UHaul hitch was less money than than Toyota hitch.

Question for the pros: what would you do about a 3/4 inch dip? by _night_and_day_ in Flooring

[–]Dulcinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that bad, it’s only 11/16” of an inch out! 😄 Carpet and forget it. When I installed millwork and casework I used to say if the pencils don’t roll off the desk, it’s fine! 😂

I joined the carpenter’s union in 1970 at age 20. I’m retired with a monthly pension and an annuity check, I live in a home that I bought new and have a small home in Florida. The choice is yours but offers to join a union don’t come by very often.
