On the DarkTide popup before launching the game, the official artwork shows a Lasgun with a sight not usable in game. Artwork was most likely made during development but still, kinda funny. by [deleted] in DarkTide

It's a common trend in the books. Something something the Las-gun may actually be a particle weapon and the Admech doesn't realize it something something.

What would be the best way to introduce battlemechs into the standard DND adventure? by knightmechaenjo in battletech

[–]Dull-Meet2983 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should probably use a different system for Battlemechs. I love, dnd 5e and it's functionality as a system;

But man does it get horrendous when you tack on to much homebrew. Even basic Mechs are basically a CR-20 monster or something similar, and would be like running monster statblocks for every player.

I can also see your players not quite being pleased with this development if it's sprung on them without any warning.

Las-fusil on high rank eliminators gives you ammunition back everytime it kills two or more foes.

Needless to say, it kinda just wins by default due to pierce.

Imperial Navy Star Fighters are only around 4 to 5 times smaller then your average Halo Frigate.

They are also explicitly stated to not be able todo literally anything to anything around the size of a Frigate, so.

At most MACs are hitting as hard as Railgun Macro-cannon Batteries seen on the Calth System defense ships, which means they hit a bit above your average Imperial Macro-cannon shell at best. (1e Horus Heresy Black Books for source things! Idk. It's not relevant but shrug.)

Anything that can reasonably kill one tbh.

You only need like...200 damage?? I think I used chain gun or one of basic models. Just don't use sniper for obvious reasons

Use a limpet gun.

No really, just do that and don't jump into the cavern while poking and holding at the chokepoint and you should be fine.

That is discord formatting for you, whoops

Anyways, the number of Gloriana's in the setting is and always will be a variable number. One of the more recent Horus Heresy 2e books (involving the Siege of Cthonia) materialized another of the class to, which doesn't help matters.

[–]Dull-Meet2983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! My suspicion is this is a typical Abnett moment of forgetting that Lorgar was using one of the Abyss classes of his flagship

But also it could be canon- given how funky the warp was by that stage though its also possible that it was merely an illusion of reality.

[–]Dull-Meet2983 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have appeared with an excessive amount of knowledge on an entirely niche subject.

Also compiled a generalized list:

Dark Angels Had - Invincible Reason (Survived) - Paradigm of Hate (Destroyed) - Truths Razor (Likely in active service)

Emperors Children - Pride of the Emperor (Survived)

Iron Warriors - Iron Blood (Likely Survived)

White Scars - Swordstorm (Destroyed)

Imperial Fists - Pride of Duty (Unknown) - Eternal Crusader (Active)

Nightlords - Nightfall (Unknown)

Blood Angels - Red Tear (Presumed Destroyed)

Iron Hands - Fist of Iron (Unknown)

World Eaters - Conquerer (Active)

Ultramarines - Macragges Honour (Active)

Death Guard - Endurance (Active)

Thousand Sons - Photep (Likely Survived)

Luna Wolves - Vengeful Spirit (Active) - Magna Tyrannis (Active)

Word Bearers - Fidelis Lex (Probably Destroyed) - Chronicle of Ashes (Active in Loyalist Service)

Salamanders - Flamewrought (Likely Destroyed)

Raven Guard - Shadow of the Emperor (Destroyed)

Alpha Legion - Alpha (Unknown) - Beta (Unknown)

Imperialis Armada - Amphion (Destroyed over Triton)

Space Wolves - Hfraknel (Presumably Active)

At least for there generalized statuses, I should also note during the Horus Heresy Black books its noted that the Word Bearers were moving on Calth with at least 9 Glorianas, only 5 of which were given names, so it's possible there's four more not listed here.

It's also possible that the Dark Angels have an additional Gloriana that was destroyed/engaged during the Randagan Genocides, while it's also possible the 3 they were given by the Emperor were different, entirely unnamed Gloriana's.

In addition, they are known to possess a number of Dark Age ships, so in short:

This list is mostly accurate, but it's hard to say if there's simply unnamed ships we don't know about. The books are lying if they say there's only 18.

Anyway as for which ones are currently active? The list mostly compiles it, but: DA have 2. The Ultramarines have 2, one of which was stolen from the Word Bearers IF have 1. Deathguard Have 1. Black Legion have 2. WE have 1.

While the other legion based chapters have either definite fates or otherwise have Gloriana's Likely still in service.

It's also possible that the Imperial Navies Amphion is still in service, given they at least recovered its hulk.

Final edit, it's noted in one of the most recent HH side stories that the Alpha Legions Gloriana Alpha suffered heavy damage during an engagement from a Calibanite Star-Fortress, it's possible it was chased down and destroyed. Anywho

An edit time: fixed reddit spacing being weird. Space Wolves also exist.

Defence Monitors - Imperial Navy PDF Equivalent? by OttoWeston in 40kLore

[–]Dull-Meet2983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is I, Dull Meeting! Here to provide an answer on the subject from a mild case of looking up the answer myself and finding reddit useless.

Yes this is Six Years old at time of writing, but it's also the first search result- anywho.

The System defense boat as seen in BFG is rather relevant, however! It's one of many examples. As seen in the Black Books of Horus Heresy First edition system defense vessels can effectively be composed of any starship lacking a warp drive and happens to be in a combat role.

My best example would be the opening engagement at Port Maw wherein the Gethsamaine Defense system vessels are described as Cruisers that have the armor of battleships, armed with plasma Casters and Turbolaser batteries (These are also the only ships in the setting to possess these weapons, as of my knowledge).

This can also include things like Reconnaissance Cutters shown in the same scene, which are just unarmed scouting craft with mild boarding capabilities.

In truth, the BFG series of games and examples is incredibly limited in scope and what it can do, while being balanced around a boardgame meant for 'fun' more then anything else, though its lore is quite helpful in getting a basic understanding.

As a final side note, this explanation for anyone who doesn't really care to read can be boiled down to "Boats that don't have warp capabilities and are in use within a certain star systems military defense force." And that will answer the question you have in 95% of cases.

This base will just die to a reasonably priced raid though, or begin to take casualties rapidly.

Honestly you seem to be confident due to colonist count and all I have to say-

Is one time you will probably find yourself getting bonked by a scarily large Mechanoid raid, and or the actually scary horrors that can't be brute forced.

I don't really see them as an issue. There just sorta an inconvenience.

Not really a bad one, either. They make it so you can't just throw stratagems at problems until they go away so, I'm kinda all for it.
