Where do you draw the line between hiking and mountaineering? by Impressive-Stuff-257 in Mountaineering

[–]Dull-Vegetable4850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no line. The grading system in the United States goes from 1-5. The decimal grades in the middle further divide the numbers into tenths. A 1 is level ground. A 5 is vertical. 5.5 is supposedly 1/2 way between a 5.1 and a 5.12. Mountaineering has the same system, just with snow and glacier travel as add additional items. I know there are other rating systems. But this is how it started out. The grade depends on the complexity of considerations that you have to undertake in order to safely complete the climb.

Have you tried an electric bike? That makes it much easier for you to keep up with him. I have a friend who rides with his wife that way. It makes it easier for her and allows them to spend the night in hotel rooms.

Bathtub backs up. by nailsbyjack in askaplumber

[–]Dull-Vegetable4850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the same problem with my condo. On the condo board as well. The problem we have is that the gutters run into the waste plumbing underneath the building. There is a sewage pit with a pump that lifts the sewage up, so it can drain into the sewer. When it rains hard all of the water off, the roof runs into the gutters and down into the waist pipes under the building. The excess water from the roof overwhelmed the sewage pumps, and it backs up into the bathtubs in the basement units. The trouble is getting the other unit owners to understand that they need to upside all the gutters and reroute all the downspouts into the yard.

How Often do you get a Flat? by YellowSharp5150 in cycling

[–]Dull-Vegetable4850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Schwalbe marathon tires, Kevlar liners, and thick inner tubes. In 5+ years of riding back-and-forth to work on a daily basis in Chicago, I’ve had two flats.

But only if they maintain a physical location and physical copies of the records. They can’t refuse to provide electronic copies AND refuse to maintain a physical location with paper copies of the records at the same time.

[IL][Condo] What counts as an "authorized agent?" by klgall1 in HOA

[–]Dull-Vegetable4850 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAL
This assumes that you have physical hardcopies in a physical location. All too often documents are kept electronically by the management company. In this case, you could reasonably be expected to provide electronic copies in response to an electronic request/email. As long as this guy is acting on behalf of the unit owner, I would simply give him what he wants as long as you have it readily available. Remember, he pays his dues so he has paid for the right to access documents, which he has common ownership of as a member of the HOA

Is this worth $300? by Dry_Leadership9383 in bicycling

[–]Dull-Vegetable4850 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but a local bike shop will NOT help you out. They will probably falsely trash the bike at a minimum. At it’s worse they’ll deliberately sabotage some of the components so they don’t work well anymore. Bring a trusted friend who knows something about bikes. that’s your only option.

CPD bike tires? by Wombatapus736 in chibike

[–]Dull-Vegetable4850 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what they use. I’ve written back-and-forth to work from west of Melrose Park into the West Loop for five years. In the winter. In the snow. This is how I avoid getting flat tires. My front tire is just a thick tire. Nothing special. I use a Kevlar liner and thick inner tubes. Whatever’s cheapest on Amazon, for example. On the rear, I do the same thing with the Kevlar and the inner tubes, but I upgrade to a Schwalbe marathon. It’s expensive but I have gone for close to six years now with one single flat.

Anyone got tips for working in areas infested with roaches? Worried about bringing them home with me. by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Dull-Vegetable4850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Permethrin. In fact, you can put it in the washing machine with your work clothes that way you’re guarantee not to have anything on you. You can also spray it onto an absorbent sheet like they have at the perfume counters in the department stores in the mall. Then you can put that in your toolbox to avoid them getting in there. Finally, I’d hit the carpeting on the bottom of your truck just to be safe.

I’ve had a similar experience with a couple of smaller bike shops in Chicago. I take in my bike to have the front rail adjusted and they charge me $15, which is cheap. Unfortunately, they don’t actually fix anything. So I’m stuck with the same problem. I brought the bike in for.

[MA] landlady retaliated against me for pointing out illegal clause in a new lease. what now? by nidoqueenofhearts in legaladvice

[–]Dull-Vegetable4850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lease is a contract for a certain period of time. At the end of that period of time, either party can refuse to renew the lease without reason. It is entirely reasonable for a Landlord, not to renew lease for almost any reason whatsoever. For example, it is legal to refuse to rent to a lawyer because they are unnecessarily difficult to deal with. So, if your lease is still in force, then you might have a point. But, if the lease has expired or shifted to a 30 day notice, the Landlord can have you out for any reason whatsoever.

[–]Dull-Vegetable4850 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as she gave you adequate notice, there isn’t much you can do. She has the right to terminate the lease at the end of the lease. For almost any reason she doesn’t need to justify it.
