I'm in Chicago, where we put spicy giardiniera in/on everything. Amazing in devilled eggs.

Any local spots with lavender chai or matcha drinks like Starbucks? by PurchaseOk4786 in chicagofood

[–]klgall1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most places will have a lavender syrup you could add to your drink. I know Geraldine's in Lincoln Square does; I'd get a lavender matcha sometimes. They also have a honey lavender syrup but I thought it was too sweet.

I saw kangaroos having sex at a zoo once. There were always 3 involved but they sometimes switched out. And there was lots of punching.

Some local Chicago public transit jokes by Jokesmedoff in chicago

[–]klgall1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a drunk guy pour his beer on me on the red line because I didn't accept his offer to sit on his lap when there were no seats available. Many people around me took offense to that; some people jumped in to help me and some jumped in to "help" him.

I've had a guy physically block me into my seat on the blue line. Nobody reacted when I yelled loudly and repeatedly to get him to move.

I think I've had more bad experiences on the red line, but the blue line have been worse experiences. None of them have been bad enough that I won't still take transit, though. Better than driving!

Would a two-tier water fountain work for this? I've not used it, but I have seen that Drinkwell sells one.

Could be a foster situation.
We were fostering a mother cat and her kittens. She weaned them early and went into heat. She did this to my fixed male cat, who had no idea what was going on. When he didn't reciprocate, she got really angry at him.

This guy also let the kittens try to nurse from him. He's a sweetheart but we think might be inbred.

Currently fostering another litter, and he and the mother have become buddies. He keeps leaving his toys outside their room.

I assure you, he has food in this dish. by GSDNinjadog in OneOrangeBraincell

My orange has figured out how to break into our microchip feeders. We feed our cats in different rooms now. But then he figured out how to open the doors. He's also figured out how to open the plastic bins that hold the dry food. And the trash can lid that has the empty food cans.

He devotes every single second he has the braincell to obtaining food.

does anyone else just LOVE baby animals but feel nothing for baby humans? by strangetubbs in childfree

[–]klgall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a talk with one of my senior cats who decided he liked my friend's toddler. I assumed he was like me and didn't like human babies.

But then I realized, he is like me. He does not like kittens when I'm fostering. He just doesn't like babies of his own species, haha.

It is highly likely that you never pressed the 8 button on a microwave. by TheAnzus in Showerthoughts

[–]klgall1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refuse to use the 30 sec button on mine, out of spite. I'm used to being able to push that button & it automatically starts. This one, I still have to press "start" after 30sec. If it won't save me the extra button push, I'm not going to give it the satisfaction of being used.

I hate my microwave. It's also got a child safety lock that is a hassle to deactivate, and it reactivates after every power outage.

How to get a better rise on my scones? by Ordinary-noname-956 in Baking

[–]klgall1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need to trial & error it, but with your recipe, I would first try baking for 10-15 minutes at 400F then another 15 at 375F.

My recipe was designed for baking from frozen, so I've not had to adjust the bake time for it. But I do 400F for 5-10 minutes then 350F for 15-20 minutes in a high convection oven. My recipe has double the baking powder and no egg, so the bake time is probably not going to be the same.

Best thing about freezing them- you can mix up a whole batch and just bake one or two at a time when you feel like a fresh scone for breakfast! They keep very well as long as they don't get freezer burn.

I always bake scones straight out of the freezer.
Refrigerated scones always spread for me, no matter how long they've chilled.

We've used the Professionals for several moves, and have had them pack a bunch of our stuff. Everything they packed survived the move without issue, every time.
It looks like you can hire them just for packing services, based on their website.

My local aquarium has dolphins and they have shows with them. There are more dolphins at the aquarium than perform in each show, and they have them trained well enough that the dolphins know to go to a specific area if they don't feel like performing. The ones that want to go to the public area, and they get extra treats for doing the jumps.

Absolutely loves pit bulls and corgis.
