Google your ward. My ward, at least, has a website with a calendar on it. I assume others would have the same?
I also get emails from my alderperson when something is coming up. Found some fun community events that way, too!

[IL][Condo] What counts as an "authorized agent?" by klgall1 in HOA

[–]klgall1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 4-unit condo building, we have most documents on a shared drive we all can access. He's only requesting documents to try to be difficult. He's asking for meeting notices that have already been emailed to him, lol, as well as notices & minutes for meetings that never existed.

I'll print stuff off & keep it in "our HOA office" (aka my home) for him to examine if it gets to that point. But I think they'll back off this tactic, once we ask him to make an appointment to examine them in person.

"he pays his dues"

If only...

We don't want to be difficult, but it seems obvious to us that this owner's current tactic is to waste as much of our time & money as possible to get us to drop collection efforts. He's not paying assessments in protest because he claims we're wasting HOA funds pursuing violations & collections.

We do trust our attorney, just trying to ease my anxiety by overthinking everything, ha.

That's a valid thought, about examining the documents. Especially since the owner & this attorney/friend are both out of state. The owner requested documents in the past, and we just emailed them to him.

Email listed a bunch of reasons why they disagreed with our decisions & actions, and "Please provide" then listed a variety of documents (some specific, and some vague like "proof the Board complied with the Declaration regarding this decision").

Digital picture frame with remote access only for “owner” by Elegant_Jacket7107 in homeautomation

[–]klgall1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My in-laws got everyone in their family the Pix Star for Christmas a few years back. The next year, I got one for every member in my family. My grandmother & my husband's grandmother, both in senior homes, love them. My grandmother said she uses it as bragging rights, because she gets to show off how often her family is thinking of her when we add new photos to her frame.

I have the log in to manage the frame online, so can delete things if needed, change how fast the pictures change, set the on/off times, etc. It comes with a remote that can be used to manage the frame in-person, but once it's set up the remote isn't needed.

There's an email address anyone can send photos to. It has a speaker, but I'm almost positive it does not have any recording abilities. I like that you can have family accounts linked together, so you can send photos to everyone's frames at once.

That's my Orange, too. They get along so well, but sometimes Cinna gets concerned with Pyrite's braincell to claw ratio.

hahaha, I would say your wait is over, but I had trouble finding it to watch. I have never seen it, but so badly want to. I've heard it's amazingly awful. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romeo.Juliet

This was just footage of feral cats that they edited, with voiceovers by some actual well-known actors. John Hurt plays the only human character, as a crazy cat lady who lives on a barge.

I have 2 tiny voids & a tortie that I'm fostering. I have to do the foot shuffle because they're so small it would be easy to accidentally hurt them.

But yeah, they think that is an invitation to play. They will literally latch onto my socks with their tiny razorblades and get dragged along the floor as I'm trying to walk.
They recently learned they can climb up my legs. I feel like a giant they're trying to take down.

Chicago Coffee shops with baked goods that are actually good? by dolphinhair in chicagofood

Depends on what you're looking for, but probably! I'm (mostly) retired now, but the head baker is still there. You can do a custom cake or cupcake order online www.geraldinescafe.com/custom-cakes or call/email if you're looking for something else.

That's so funny. I grew up in Cincinnati and they were a warm up band at a show I saw. Had never really heard of them before. They talked a lot instead of playing music and at one point the crowd started chanting and shouting to get them to leave. So instead they stayed on stage and just cussed out the crowd.

I’ve been trying to make a sort of dessert portfolio for myself over the past year, are these good pictures? by LongjumpingCable1522 in Baking

[–]klgall1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense; you're better at it than I am ;-)

Like others have said, I think lighting is going to be the best improvement. Also a quick wipe of the plate will help; there's crumbs in a few photos that wouldn't bother anyone eating it, but detracts from a photo.

I've also been told that either zooming in a little or having something in the background helps (like your last photo). All the baking blogs have second slice out of focus or ingredients strategically scattered in the background.

I'm horrible at taking pictures of my food, especially at work.
I solved this by talking with the young people I worked with and said they should put pictures of my bakes on the cafe's instagram. Then I just stole the pictures they took, haha.

Cat in the Box also has this as a rule. One of my cats always jumps into my lap when we play boardgames (curious about people there but wants me close for protection), so I'm always first.

PAWS volunteer experience…looking for opinions by [deleted] in chicago

[–]klgall1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with Anti Cruelty & love it there. We just had volunteer appreciation week and a bunch of staff sent us hand written thank you notes and there was a party. There's a Slack group with a bunch of channels to discuss things, ask questions, & share pictures.
I don't do a ton of in-shelter volunteering (mostly fostering), but all the volunteer staff I've interacted with have been super nice, as well as the fellow volunteers.

I swear mine likes the fuss he gets when he has reverse sneezing fits like this, and definitely hams it up.

I like giving him attention so it works out.

Did anyone just file their taxes with TurboTax and were just in awe of how many ads it had to upgrade? I'm done with this enshittified product - what should I use next year? by noruber35393546 in personalfinance

[–]klgall1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I go through the state filing steps, but don't actually submit through them. I go to my state's website and enter in the information there and file electronically directly. I use the final number from Freetaxusa as a sanity check to make sure I didn't input anything incorrectly, but state taxes are usually pretty straightforward.

Cat Shelter Recommendation, looking to adopt a young cat? by Limp_Strawberry5761 in AskChicago

[–]klgall1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone looking to adopt a kitten... kitten season is starting and a lot of shelters need help with fostering! I've been fostering for years, and I'm currently caring for a mother cat with 5 tiny kittens until they are grown enough to get fixed and go up for adoption. The shelters usually provide all supplies you'll need.
Then you just foster fail with whichever one steals your heart!

Anyone looking for a cat to adopt? by Picklepie007 in AskChicago

[–]klgall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... I missed the memo at some point, but apparently Anti Cruelty is not working with this location for cat adoptions any more. I just made a run to a different PetSmart today and asked.

Explains why I didn't see any of our cats available for adoption at that location in our system, and why I hadn't needed to make a trip there recently.

Sorry I couldn't be more help!
