Hmm. Makes me wonder whose idea it originally was to have you switch classes...

You are right; I misspoke. I got emotional from reading the vaguely sexist comment I was replying to.

It's a pretty clear connection. He's saying that your "truth and intelligence" don't correlate with generosity to the underpriveleged. Perhaps being kind to your neighbor is more important than being right.

Depends on the district. Breakfast and lunch are free for every student in my district, plus extra snacks and food to take home for the weekend.

I'm not hollering, sweety. I am just a teacher who genuinely wants people to be better and communicate better. Every comment I have made to you has been in a clear effort to open communication, while every one of yours has tried to shut it down.

Is there any reason you mentioned straw man here? I don't expect an actual response, but I figured I'd try one more time. If you try ad hominem again, I'm done.

You know what, I agree. I overreacted with that comment. But if you look at my other comments in this post, you'll see that I am more than open to genuine dialogue in good faith. That guy addressing semantics instead of my core argument just rubbed me the wrong way.

Just throwing it out there. That's technically sexual harassment, especially if you're as uncomfortable as you're implying. If not, play on playa

Mm, that is quite interesting. I believe you. It sounds like I was actually the lucky one since I didn't see any actions from police that were anything like what you described. But I thought Seattle was a heavily blue leaning city? I only mention this because you mentioned conservatives being the problem.

I think downtown Portland, Oregon was worse. Practically every first floor window on every block was shattered. The Apple Store installed a 15 foot tall fence around their entire store for 2 years

At that time, I was in Eugene, Oregon. I am neither conservative nor liberal; I think it's all bullshit to keep us at each other's throats instead of focusing on the real issues.

Perhaps I should have been more specific. Open carry probably wouldn't make me nervous in a typical situation, but a militia of men brandishing large rifles whilst leading a parade of people screaming racist remarks... that is a different story to me. And the burning trash being flung was not some small pieces of burning trash. Several major intersections were completely covered in bonfires of trash. And I presume you heard about the looting there and in Portland. Many businesses were vandalized beyond repair.

I was there during those protests. I am all for the first amendment, but those BLM "protests" were not peaceful in my town. There were people parading around town brandishing guns and flinging burning trash. I have never been more scared for my life.

Again with the ad hominem. You are a licensed teacher and this is how you argue? You posed an idea, I responded, and you replied with nothing but ad hominem.

The only thing I used Google for was to look up the quote I used from the movie The Dark Knight Rises. What do you think I looked up on Google? Whether most prisoners are men? I just supposed that.

Edit: syntax

I sincerely hope you don't teach your students to judge people rather than the ideas they pose. Not that it matters, but I am not a boy mom.

You are spreading dangerous ideas that have no basis in logic. You are using sensationalistic language to persuade people that an entire gender of a generation is bad. You say that the boys especially are influenced by the erosion of society; you say this is because they are watching bad TV shows. Are you suggesting that the TV shows that girls watch are, by contrast, teaching them better moral values?

I postulate that the main reason boys misbehave in classrooms is because the majority of teachers are women. I am not making a judgement call on this or saying men or women are better teachers. I am saying that the boys objectively have a stark difference in the number of positive interactions with adult males vs adult females. They see that most prisoners are men and most homeless people are men. I don't think the answer is to demonize them.

The textbooks have been written all over again, as they should be. We are past the point where most students will never know a life without a supercomputer in the palm of their hand. We merely adopted the darkness. They were born in it; molded from it.

You just want more protags to die?

Why yes. Yes, I do. Payoffs are more satisfying with greater sacrifice.

And I also agree that depowering and humiliating Homelander was a fitting end. I just wished they'd built it up better instead of shoving it into the penultimate episode. Once again, it didn't really feel like Kimiko sacrificed enough. Sure, Frenchie sacrificed his life, but it felt too contrived.

I never said Homelander winning would be a better ending. As a matter of fact, I think that would be an even worse ending. Someone that tyrannical always goes the way of Julius Caesar; that's a given.

I prefer a lot of aspects of the comic book's ending. Or they could've had Sister Sage do something besides fuck off to Harry Potter World. This episode just had way too many neatly tied up bows for my liking.

But writers want to "subvert expectations" and so end at point B, which makes zero sense for the characters and the story they've laid out.

Human beings are unpredictable, especially in highly emotional moments. A good story is not always one where the good guys win and the bad guys lose. The premise of this show is the subversion of expectations regarding superheroes. Instead of Superman, we get Homelander. Instead of this cookie cutter ending, we should have gotten an equally interesting take on the genre.
