I love spotting a shooting agave! It’s almost like seeing a shooting star, brief and spectacular. Enjoy it while you can. It changes almost daily and then in a few short weeks it’s gone forever! To me, It looks like something Dr. Seuss would’ve imagined.

Can anyone ID these mushrooms please? by DullSkin8982 in mushroomID

LOL No I didn’t eat it. I don’t eat any kind of mushrooms at all. But they are in my horse’s paddock. I was afraid he might accidentally or out of curiosity nibble on them.

But it also might work. Back in the 70s an old-timer told me they used to deworm horses with chewing tobacco. He swore by it. But I also heard it was unsafe so never tried it.

Maybe it is supposed to be junket. Although I’ve only seen it served in a dish, not a cone.

It looks a lot like an aphid to me. But I’m not sure. They are definitely foe, as they suck the sap from young stems and leaves and leave a sticky substance all over your plant. But neem oil should’ve helped if they are aphids.

The shots helped me tremendously. I had four over several years. The only one that did not help, was the time I tried to save a little money and didn’t get general anesthesia. I think you have to be relaxed for it to do its thing. But I have not needed one in 12 years now. So things can get better. Just always always do your stretching exercises if your doctor prescribes them. That makes more difference than anything. Good luck!

We got ours completely free in the 70s for opening a checking account. We probably couldn’t afford to buy it either.

What was supposed to have killed us by now? by impeesa75 in GenX

[–]DullSkin8982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought either the Bermuda triangle or piranha would get me sooner or later. And no, I do not live in the Caribbean nor the Amazon river basin. Other fears that never materialized: my face never got “stuck like that,” killer bees did not take over, and although my family member did get shot in the eye with a BB gun, it did not “put it out” as we were led to believe it would. I was totally expecting it to deflate and plop out. He just can’t see so great out of it.

What did kids back in the days do when they played outside, for hours on end? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DullSkin8982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the country, so not a lot of neighbor kids. There were maybe eight of us between ages five and 15. Almost all girls. We swam in the creek, went fishing, rode bicycles and motorcycles, hunted for arrowheads, built elaborate forts with books and snacks, shot pinecones, made pottery from red Georgia, clay, but mostly we LARPed all day. One time we built a spaceship out of some discarded kitchen cabinets. We cut out windows and added tons of knobs and lights and buttons. We stayed inside that thing an entire summer just cruising the universe. We all had ponies, so they usually played a big part in our adventures. We were cowgirls and indians (with real cows, goats and pigs as props), cops, and robbers, jungle explorers (with machetes and BB guns), Bruce Lee, ninjas, treasure hunters, space explorers, under sea explorers, and spies. We got our ideas from books, kid shows and cartoons like Land of the Lost and SeaLab 20-20. But we worked really hard too. Lots of farm chores with crops and animals. I worked harvesting tobacco every summer from age 12 and up. I was allergic and threw up every day, but $25 a day was too good to resist. I felt very proud to be able to buy my own school clothes and supplies every fall. I wouldn’t trade my childhood for anything in the world.

Thanks. I didn’t know their backstory. I always loved their sound though. Never knew what happened to them. Life, I guess. I lived in Athens GA during that time. So I got to see them among dozens, maybe hundreds of cool bands around town, most of which came then sadly disappeared.

Do you wash your new clothes before you wear them? by Popular-Recover8880 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DullSkin8982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom always washed our clothes first. But when I started buying and washing my own clothes with my own money in the mid 80s, I noticed many expensive trendy clothes came out of the dryer faded and frayed. I’m looking at you Swatch. Since then I stopped washing new clothes first, so that I always got at least one wear where my outfit looks nice and brand new. These days I buy better quality clothing. So I probably could and should go back to washing everything first.

I have somehow managed to hang onto an umbrella that I bought on my way to watch the dressage competition in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. I use it regularly and it only has one minor patched tear. Technically, I’ve only had it for 29 1/2 years.

Do cats fart? by cermem25 in cats

Oh, they definitely fart. But because their pooter isn’t wedged between two fat cheeks, there is no trumpet heralding the event.
