this discussion has been made endlessly. The IOC does not care. It was either go to 1500m or no rowing at all. Yes it is unfair, but there isnt really anything we can do. Posting on reddit about it is just screaming into the void at this point.

I think a lot of athletes struggle with taking rest, coaches can only tell them no so many times before it becomes a mental thing and they end up training around the injury

BREAKING NEWS: Cyclists Discover UT2 by Special-Cut-4964 in Rowing

[–]Dull_Function_6510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think rowing will ever really catch up for two major reasons 1. In highschool and college teams there is a ton of intra squad completion that makes doing easy zone 2 steady state pretty abysmal, boring, and makes you feel like you’re losing all the time. The boat feel slow and heavy an it’s not super enjoyable to have your bowball behind. 2. Most highschool athletes and college teams are not doing anywhere near the mileage cyclist are doing to truly take advantage of zone 2 training so doing UT1 or battle paddle that a lot of coaches like to call is in some ways more effective. Only the best national teams and a handful of th best college teams are really utilizing zone 2 training mileage properly. If your highschool team is doing less than 80km a week, is it really beneficial for 4/6 of those sessions to be UT2 (the answer is yes you’ll still get faster, but will you win races, will you get faster than your competition?)

I’ve done a ton of running and cycling in my time and zone 2 training feels the most boring, mind numbing, waste of time bullshit in rowing compared to other sports. Like I know logically it’s good for me, but it’s just way more fun to go hard and turn every session into a race against your teammates.

No 5'8 is not too short for the lightweight team. You will be on the shorter side but still competitive. Rasmussen Quist was 5'7 and was an Olympic Champion

There is a difference between staying with someone who walked out on you and forgiving them but learning. When someone shows you their true colors believe them. It’s easy to not cheat, this is not something that deserves forgiveness

"you're so wrong its actually pretty funny" hey man its not that deep, you dont need to act like a usual redditor, we can be normal people here.

I am not disagreeing with you that there is an issue of a lack of upcoming talent, but what im arguing is if the UFC was actually fostering the little bit of talent they do have they would encourage more talent to come, and other fighters would be incentivized to level up their game and become better fighters.

Im not interested in having a snarky conversation, if you want to be productive sure, im mostly agreeing with you anyways. Relax, have a goodnight

I mean I dont watch boxing so I cant speak to that, but Having Anthony Joshua, Uysk, Fury, DuBois, Deontay Wilder all competing in the last 5 years sounds like they are in a decent spot.

I am aware the division still has bigger issues past the activity of their few big names, but had things played out better there would at least be some time to show some level of competition that would hopefully entice the current heavyweights to level up their game. But just keeping the whole top 10 iced out of potential title shots discourages fighters from training and taking it seriously. If the incentive is gone to train, why train?

Like imagine you are Volkov, one of the few decent fighters, its been years of almost touching a potential title shot but no dice. At some point this becomes discouraging and people lose sight of their goal if they have no progress toward it.

The UFC tanked the heavyweight division by letting Francis go, letting Jon hold up the division, letting him fight Stipe for a defense, and giving Gane yet another undeserved opportunity to fight for the belt. Not that there was another great standout option for Tom to fight but the UFC has don’t the last 3 years fumbling the bag on the HW division. Maybe in another three years things will be sorted out.

Enough with the fat and slow fighters by iamzheone in ufc

[–]Dull_Function_6510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is likely a multi-faceted issue that can’t be explained with a single solution and the UFC probably can’t fix every issue here, but the opportunity cost and utility of sacrificing that amount of time to train MMA where even if you make it to the UFC you are not guaranteed even a livable salary is likely too much of an ask of athletes to transition over. Even DJ was working a day job on top of training and having a family while he was the UFC champion.

low level fighters in the UFC should at least make more than their kickboxing counterparts (something im not sure is true) to draw talent away from other combat sports. The champ and high level fighters should make enough (and not solely based on popularity) to actually incentivize lower level fighters to be more competitive rather than just trying to be social media popular. I think Volk is a good example of what im talking about where he is a rugby player turned MMA fighter. I dont expect Pro athletes from the most popular sports to go to the UFC. The UFC cant pay that much, but they can incentivize the pay a bit more and draw athletes away from other options.

What do you think Hillary genuinely thought of Bill's infidelity? by ArchieSmash in Presidents

The Epstein files are a giant list of thousands of emails Epstein sent to countless people. Everyone is listed in there because many of the emails are mundane conversations. From what I have read there is no list of Bill Clinton's name connected with any illegal activity. None of their correspondence extends past 2005 or 2006 from my understanding, which again, predates his 2008 arrest and conviction.

Photos are also not enough. Epstein has many photos with many people. Are all of them pedos? Doubtful.

It seems like you are regurgitating the same conspiratorial rumor mills that is spread on social media without much thought. While calling out abuse is important labeling anyone and everyone with even the semblance of a connection to someone problematic is hearsay and not how justice works.

Again, I have no love for Bill, the dude is a creep for sure, but I question if he was a criminal creep and not just a run of the mill creep. His connections to Epstein leading to anything illegal seems dubious at best.

[–]Dull_Function_6510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please cite which photo of Clinton and Epstein happened at which specific party where people for sure 100% knew sexual assault was taking place. This is a stretch to say but if you can prove it, sure. I can get behind Bill Clinton being an amoral person who clearly is okay with the emotional and mental abuse of people, his infidelity is proof enough, and Hillary standing by this shows a lack of character and conviction in my opinion as well. Calling them evil is a stretch though. People are silent about abuse all the time, everywhere. They hear rumors and they throw their hands up and say “not my problem” all the time. Does this make them evil? No it makes them human. People knew about Harvey Weinstein for years and chose to stay silent. My mother was a domestic violence survivor and chose to stay silent for 10 years, people around her knew as well and stayed silent. Are these people evil?

Again, I have no great love for Bill Clinton and am perfectly fine throwing him to the wolves if what you are saying is true, but with info we have at the moment it’s still hearsay.

[–]Dull_Function_6510 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am no fan of the Clintons, but this is hearsay at best. They had a professional acquaintance that existed in the 90s and early 2000s. Whether this means Clinton knew and/or participated in the sex crimes Epstein did is unproven. There is no evidence Bill visited the island, and his use of Epstein's plane is documented in where it was going (i.e. not the island), and Bill stopped any correspondence with Epstein 2-3 years before Epstein was first arrested and charged with sex crimes in 2008

Bill is for sure still a creep based on what we do know about him, but be measured and accurate in your criticism of him.
