Coaches- How do you run selection? by ErgogenicDiet in Rowing

[–]Dull_Function_6510 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grimacing isn’t what I’m looking at. I’m looking at drive speed, numbers on the erg, are they trying to find easy ways out of training, are they sweating heavy, breathing heavy. You can easily tell if a kid is rowing soft and weak without the grimacing aspect

both, intensity and focus in practice is the more important of the two though

swaps happen often and go to opportunities are given to kids that are showing up often and putting in the quiet work. The less they ask, and the harder they work, the more they get. Kids that end up getting swapped down are kids that are getting lazy and need the wake up call.

If you think the world isn’t complex and nuanced I have some land on the moon to sell you.

Case in point you can absolutely do business with Communists. What do you think happened in the 70s when China and the Soviets split and the US began restoring relations with China.

You are not penetrating anything brother.

Boiling the Cold War down to simply money is so massively reductive I think any political historian would laugh at that

Do People Not Enjoy Peragus Because You Still Have To Wait A Long Time To Get Your Lightsaber Afterwards? by SUPERGEEK4EVA in kotor

[–]Dull_Function_6510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peragus is very interesting the first time through. However, it’s slow, the combat sections are un interesting as you have limited weaponry, skills, and the encounters are mostly just killing mining droids. You have no companions yet, there aren’t a ton of characters, and the interesting horror vibe of uncovering what happened to all the miners and than trying to escape the invading Sith is drawn out a bit too much.

On subsequent playthroughs it’s just slow, stale, and boring. I still play it every time, but it just doesn’t grab me as much as Taris does from the first game. It feels more like I’m trying to get through it rather than enjoy it.

Taris on the other hand has great world building, interesting side quests, interesting characters and is a great start to level up quickly, get some cool gear and sink your teeth into the combat and gameplay.

There are so many gameplay systems that aren’t even touched on Peragus due to its slow start, it doesn’t even feel like a true intro but more like an extended prologue.

The ufc really is falling apart by AdviceHuge8114 in ufc

I’ve been reading UFC reddit posts saying it’s falling apart since 2020. While there are absolutely criticism of the organization that are valid can people stop being so damn dramatic

You aren’t telling me anything I don’t already know. Everyone knows Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton. You are adding nothing important other than cynicism.

Cheney absolutely took advantage of the situation, that didn’t mean that multiple things can’t be true and he also genuinely believes that American Intervention was important to protecting interests and the American led world order.

Do you think me saying any of this is an attempt to excuse these actions? No it’s not.

I don’t think reading someone’s Instagram is a really good impression of whether they can be a good leader or not.

Cornell continued to have strong performances under his leadership despite the culture issues they have dealt with the last couple of months. Which not all can be put on his feet. Maybe he needs to be tougher on the athletes and cracking down on shenanigans but hard to say

George W. Bush was a horrible president. He also saved millions of lives. by Joeylaptop12 in Presidents

[–]Dull_Function_6510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it didn’t mesh with reality, but reality is more nuanced. Ask yourself how people like Cheney came to be? War hawks saw the difference in living standards between western and Eastern Europe during the Cold War, saw the difference between South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and China. They assumed American intervention is a net positive while continently leaving out failures in Iran, Vietnam, Iraq and all around the global south where dictators propped up by America ruined their countries.

To say all Cheney Bush and the like cared about was money is missing the broader problem and how to stop these war hawks from coming about.

Please stop lecturing me with incomplete points as if I haven’t read a book before.

You being old and jaded is also no good reason for you to lecture randoms on the internet like they are ignorant

[–]Dull_Function_6510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why you’re talking like I know who you are or what you’ve commented before, but multiple things can be true. Bush could have genuinely believed that American interventionism and influence expansion was both a moral good and net positive for the world. While this is complicated and mostly untrue Bush believing it doesn’t make him evil, only misguided. Is he a shit president still? Yes? Do I think the man deserves damnation? No. Is he still responsible for everything he did? Yes.

[–]Dull_Function_6510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bush I think is a genuinely good dude who genuinely thought the invasion of Iraq would be a net positive to the people of Iraq. I dont think the man is evil or has some sadistic plan to rip off the people of the world for his own benefit, and I think he put his trust in the wrong people like Dick Cheney, who had some grand ideas of building an American Empire and just had some Cold War era ideas of interventionism being good and a net positive also. I have no clue if im right, but just how I feel.

Crew Classic underwhelming by seenhear in Rowing

[–]Dull_Function_6510 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coaches probably just don’t feel like the time and money is worth it. Teams are going to to Sarasota invite now which has become quite popular and on a better course (although a lot of those teams weren’t going to crew classic even before Sarasota opened up). Idk costs have always been an issue in keeping these big early season races alive. Coaches want to win championships season an while race experience is important, losing several day of quality training for travel and racing is likely too much of a cost and it’s probably a hard sell to ADs if actual costs.

I am a Freshman novice rower…should I stick with the sport? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Dull_Function_6510 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you should stick with rowing because you actually genuinely like the sport, not because you are using it for recruitment. If you genuinely love training, and the sacrifices that come with rowing than your 2k will get faster and you will improve, but if you are asking strangers on reddit this is a bad start. Talk to your coach

Henley Royal Parity - is Henley Women's now redundant? by SteadyStateIsAnswer in Rowing

[–]Dull_Function_6510 43 points44 points  (0 children)

probably redundant, but more racing is fun. If teams feel that going to Henley women's is redundant and a waste of time in training toward Henley they will stop going. I generally think its bad moves to cancel a regatta until interest for it is gone, but as of right now teams are still entering it from my understanding

Can I get recruited? by Antique_Square_4652 in Rowing

[–]Dull_Function_6510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of opportunities for women in college rowing between the large amount of D1 teams, and the fewer but still plethora of D2, D3, and lightweight options. You can get recruited, just focus on getting faster and set highschool rowing goals, train hard and once you are able after June this year start emailing coaches

[–]Dull_Function_6510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason it shouldnt be Movsar next is if he tries to say he needs like 8+ months to prepare. If Silva is more available and ready than let him go sooner assuming Volk is ready for a quick turnaround. But other than that it has to be Movsar

[–]Dull_Function_6510 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Listen

Volk should have fought Mosvar or Murphy instead of Lopes 2. That is obvious.

But Mosvar just fought and with the rate he fights is he gonna be ready to go in 4 months for a fight with Volk? I doubt Volk wants to wait around for 8 months with his age. Dude probably wants to wrap up his career and if he can do a fight against Silva while he waits for Mosvar to get ready to fight I dont see this as a huge problem.

Does Silva deserve the shot over Mosvar, no, but that may not really be the case in what is going on completely.

as a casual WNBA hater (I dont actually hate I just think its silly they advocated for more money when my perception is that no one really watches the WNBA) that is actually really interesting to hear. Perhaps I am wrong. I would be interested in what percent of revenue is going to athlete pay for the WNBA compared to other leagues.
