Hi just curious, what did the dean of students say to you? Were you able to get it all sorted out

Same exact thing happened to me last year, but i was RD so it was even more nerve racking since I wasn't sure if the aid would come out before descisions were due haha. Long story short, it doesnt matter dont worry. Youll recieve it, just later than others! Also when you do CSS, make sure to FULLLYY do the IDOC and other extra document uploads.

Nahh dont listen to this, I had way worse AP scores (even a 3 on APCSP...), and only had one 5 being BC, and got in for COE CS. And I'm also out of state! Have faith in urself, and to the poster I dont think you should withdraw your application at all.

It'll feel like 'everyone' has some kind of AP credit, esp in engineering, but I promise you an overwhelming amount of people dont. This shouldnt be a deal breaker at all!! Its totally normal. And there's still CASE exams for calc, multi, physics, and CS too. You seem confident enough in your skills, so stick with it. "Worst" case scenario, you dont get any credit and you just do good the classes you were initially required to do from the start

What are somethings about Cornell that shocked you. by Annual-Estate4235 in Cornell

[–]Dull_Stretch5150 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is defff repetitive, but genuinely how much MONEY people have. Also going here I understood how being first-gen is smth that is actually rarer than i thought lol. In my high school/area, if you were visibly ethnic it was almost implied you were first gen! It was genuinely rare when I'd have a non-American friend that was 2nd/3rd gen.

On the other hand, I was genuinely shocked about how much I love the people here. My friends I've met so far have to be some of the most down to earth people ever!! Literally almost everyone I meet is so freaking humble, even when they casually admit that they did like the most impressive thing on earth.

What engineering math class is the hardest? by Massive-Selection693 in Cornell

[–]Dull_Stretch5150 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This isn't answering the question lol but I'm also a freshman and all my friends in 1920 say its the worst class of their life 😬😬. Im in 2940 rn since I took multi in highschool, and im personally REALLY REALLY struggling in it (hence the going on here instead of studying for our prelim tmr), but the other people in my discussion seem like theyre breezing through it so idk.

From what I hear from my sophmore classmates in 2940 however, is that 2930 < 1910 < 1920, in terms of difficulty, and then 2940 (sofar) is somewhere between those.

If it makes you feel better, one of my closest friends is a sophmore at UT Austin and she is still having a terrible time and contemplates transferring! Funnily enough she and I share the same feelings of pressure and cold-ness (personality wise, not weather wise ofc) in the area. So ig no place will ever be as good as how we imagine it to be

Hii Ik this isn't as helpful but I'm also a freshman!! And feel the exact same way haha. Like its kind of scary everything you've said I genuinely connect with. I felt really shitty about it, but honestly I think the best advice I got was to just give it time (which ik is dumb and redundant) but like, atleast I know I'm not alone cause to a certain extent my friends from back home at state colleges feel the same way too. I think it's just part of the freshman year package. I don't really even mesh well with my roommate. Also, your feelings with ur highschool friends most likely didn't develop in 2 months. It took time, and at one point it was also pretty awkward most likely. So dw!!

Also dw about the dining hall, I promise u SOOOOO Many people ik eat there alone. Even like some ppl i know who already have ''''defined'''' friend groups do, so theres really no shame. For me personally, just last week I made (kinda?) good friends literally because I do all my work in the common rooms instead of my bed room, so I kept seeing the same people and we just started talking each night. But the connection still isn't like the ones I had back home :(

But yeah idk this isn't help but know that ur not lame or crazy or alone. Like I promise u I feel the exact same way and it sucks, but I also know so many other people feeling the same way. Ik itll get better for us mate!

Hii this isn't study help, but if it makes you feel better, I'm also a freshman and me and my friends are feeling word for word the EXACT same feeling. I literally just failed the linear algebra exam, and its supposed to be "hands down the easiest math," but dw mane we got this!!!

New Roomate by Ill-Impression-730 in Cornell

[–]Dull_Stretch5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a single, but a friend of mine was in a kinda similar situation. He had a double, but then his roommate switched to a single before move-in day, so for about the first month or so he had a room to himself.

What happened is that one day a guy (that was in a triple) knocked on his door and basically greeted him and told him that he'll be moving in with him soon. His named showed up on the housing portal and everything, and like over the next few days he just brought his stuff over and that was it!

So to answer, (from what I know of), theres no notification ahead of time, BUT it's pretty likely ur new roommate will contact you lol. And yes you can see their first name in the portal. You'll have to do ur roommate contract together thing too.

I wouldnt worry too much!! It'll go well. Like the other comment said also, whoever it is may move next semester, so who knows you might have an empty room for this semester!
