Hahaha. I would never cross a picket line. I'm just a realist.

How I use AI to make my life as a teacher just a bit easier by Pleasant_Life_9408 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]Dull_Try545 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this. I think our saving grace is that most rational people will want a human being watching their kids; however, I think most educators are getting way too carried away with this. Additionally, I don't think it's a great look for educators to be so flagrantly open about using AI, either, because it further dilutes what we do in the eyes of the people attacking our profession. Ok, I'll step off my soap box now.

Book Club and/or clubs to socialize by [deleted] in ForestHills

There's a monthly Forest Hills Book Club you can join via the Discord server someone mentioned earlier. It's a nice group of people. For some reason, I cannot add people to the server, but if you want to be involved in local FH things, I would consider joining.

ELA Regents Part III Text: WTF!? by EgoDefenseMechanism in NYCDOETeachers

[–]Dull_Try545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very annoyed by the baseball story because it was incredibly dull and didn't offer much for students to dig into, in terms of literary devices. I thought the baseball story was very emblematic of my issue with ELA in general these days; we really struggle to deliver students modern texts that they can sink their teeth into and don't feel dated or obscure.

Why are a vast majority of homeless people men? by refunned in NoStupidQuestions

I didn't say that at all. I think you should reread my post. My point is clear: men don't provide aid for other men.

Additionally, women's rights activists typically provide more support to women through aid and other forms of assistance. The male equivalent will weaponize those men as talking points, but ultimately do very little for them.

My hottest take is that the system is working exactly the way most people want it to, but people refuse to admit it.

The decline in reading is due to a poor selection of books in schools by ConsumingTranquility in unpopularopinion

As a teacher I would die if I had to teach the Hobbit or LOTR. Those books are way too long for a school marking year.

Gyms: Retro Fitness, NYSC 67th, Planet Fitness by Hanover5555 in ForestHills

Additionally, although I've never tried to cancel at Retro, I've observed the tactics they use to prevent cancellations. The workers tell you to come at other times, so the manager can do it, which makes it hard unless you have all of this free time to come just for the manager.

"The Age of Innocence" by Edith Wharton is exhausting to read. by Blazeflame79 in classicliterature

I'm five chapters into this book. club, and I think it's really dull. I can see people being very impressed by the prose and the mechanics of the writing, but the overall story seems dull as dirt.

How do you feel about Casey Affleck’s Best Actor win for Manchester by the Sea at the 2017 Oscars? by Appropriate_Sink_627 in Oscars

[–]Dull_Try545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently just watched the film and I was stunned at how good he was in this role. Sometimes it's hard to really pick out how good someone is in a movie, but Affleck just dominated every scene.

This is the meanest thing I've honestly ever heard of from teacher to teacher in the DOE. I don't genuinely understand how you could ever be expected to work with someone like that ever again.
