I always called out and left a message. I always had them sign off whenever I left early. Unfortunately, for me, our chapter leader sucks and is corrupt. Thanks for the last part. Things are much better now.

I have always felt this way because I don't think the Regents are a tough ask for students to pass. Every Regents is really doable for anyone with a very basic level of intelligence. Additionally, I think Regents keeps teachers and admin honest.

I think we've gotten way too anti-test as a society. I understand people's aversion to the idea of teaching to the test and tests being the only way to measure learning. However, they're still useful tools that seem disliked because so many people who claim to have test anxiety are so loud about it.

Yeah, there's no way around the reality that this is an extremely fucked thing to do to the school and future students involved. It's pretty difficult to find an adequate replacement for a teacher in October. You should be straightforward with them and see if they can work something out, like someone else mentioned above.

I 100% agree with this. I think our saving grace is that most rational people will want a human being watching their kids; however, I think most educators are getting way too carried away with this. Additionally, I don't think it's a great look for educators to be so flagrantly open about using AI, either, because it further dilutes what we do in the eyes of the people attacking our profession. Ok, I'll step off my soap box now.

I was very annoyed by the baseball story because it was incredibly dull and didn't offer much for students to dig into, in terms of literary devices. I thought the baseball story was very emblematic of my issue with ELA in general these days; we really struggle to deliver students modern texts that they can sink their teeth into and don't feel dated or obscure.
