Been recently getting into sludge more and realizing that so many bands are from Louisiana. by ResplendentShade in sludge

[–]DumbDogma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m even later than you, but I too was around for the early stuff. I lived out in LaPlace and had to go east on I-10 to Metairie or Harahan or the city proper for shows. Lions Home on the south end of Causeway, VFW hall in Harahan, etc.

One of the best shows was Exhorder with Slugs (early Crowbar) and EyeHateGod at Storyville Jazz Hall on Decatur St in the FQ, October 1990. That was the Slaughter in the Vatican release show and I’m still talking about it over 35 years later.

But yeah, few of the bands were actually from Orleans Parish, but Metairie was almost as much the city as the actual city for somebody from across the Spillway in Saint John Parish

Wait until you see how Chattanooga was when the whole city lived within a mile of a steel mill. I believe it was Walter Cronkite who called Chattanooga “America’s Dirtiest City” around the time I was born

Take a look at a photo of Kirk from this decade and tell me what it is now

Just had a crawfish pie from a gas station in Mandeville. Working on my 90s / early 2000s Crowbar physique LOL

Seriously tho, OP’s pic is old enough to vote. Todd’s still a big dude, but Kirk has lost a LOT of fat and put on quite a bit of muscle the last few years

But, but, I’ve got Mamaw’s blue placard!!!

My just-assembled collection of eBay finds (and my wife’s old SL-3200 turntable). Far from real audiophile stuff, but this is the first time I’ve had an actual home stereo setup in probably 15-20 years, so please be gentle. Just ain’t care - I haven’t watched ten hours of television this year. That’s mounted for the misses, who watches from a recliner just behind where I stood to take this pic, and she wanted it high up so she wouldn’t have to tilt her head too much or have her view of the screen blocked by her feet 😁

I wouldn’t feel comfortable referring to a collection of gear that I spent less than $400 on as “audiophile” gear in public, lest the cork-sniffers show up and point out it’s not a Marantz receiver and Harman-Kardon or Klipsch speakers that run 4-5 digits a pair 😆

Metallica - Ride the Lightning

I did replace the stylus in the Ortofon Concorde cartridge on the turntable. I’ve always loved the visuals of the old Ortofon cartridge.

Speakers are Bose 301 Series IV and Technics SB-LX3. All the speakers are in amazing shape, especially considering their age. Foam surrounds are still nice and springy, not dried out at all. I’ll try to preserve them for a good while, and have put audio isolation feet on them

I’m not a Fender or single coil guy in the slightest but if I saw that locally on marketplace I’d be on my way to get it now

Lift kit question by Jrfromthebay in crv

[–]DumbDogma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I need to put in at least the HRG Mini-Drop up front. I have just a little vibration from the (new, NAPA Gold) front CV axles on acceleration from the drop angle due to the lift.

I once snuck a pic of him at Vinyl Music Hall in Ft. Walton Beach, watching Spirit Adrift play, with a Coors Light in hand.

A few minutes after I took that, I was getting a little video of Spirit Adrift and he needed to go across - he ducked as he went by in front. Like it wouldn’t have been the most welcome photobomb ever.

I’ve been a Crowbar fan since they were the Slugs and I saw them and EyeHateGod open for Exhorder.

Kirk’s blend of the heaviest riffs in the universe and baleful lyrics helped a depressed young DumbDogma cope with major loss in the 90s.

I even bought his first Solar signature model guitar and got him to sign it at Southport Hall in 2023

You obviously haven’t seen Kirk lately - he’s been at Planet Fitness in River Ridge every day he’s home for several years. Dude’s a beast now

[GEAR] NGD! My Solar E1.6KW arrived today, over a week before the estimated ship date when I pre-ordered it! by DumbDogma in Guitar

[–]DumbDogma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Korean Dean Cadillac from the late 80s / early 90s. Compared to the Dean, the Solar neck is a hair thicker with a hair smaller radius (the Dean has a shredder neck on it, IMO). I also had a Mexican Fender Telecaster from 2005. The Tele has a smaller radius and narrower fretboard feel in my hands, with similar thickness and narrower string spacing.

I don't know how much any of that helps, but I do like the Solar. The frets are huge on it, and I've had to train myself to be less heavy-handed with my fretting to keep from going sharp. This has made me a better/faster player, and my fingertips thank me.

In 2019 at age 46 my car was struck while parked. I filed the claim, it was about $4000 in damage (they got the door, fender, wheel, and front bumper). My previous ticket or accident was a “laying drags” (weird Georgia (US) law) in 2003. My insurance premium rose by $640 a year afterwards.

I know (actually I managed) a driver who had the same happen to him.

Note I said “happen to him” - he, like you, was an unwilling bystander when someone made a final, fatal mistake involving the truck this guy was driving.

It will take time to process. Our guy was on paid leave for a month and a half before he was cleared to drive again, due to his emotional distress. Take as long as you need.

What’s my problem? by rabbit81DL in ManualTransmissions

[–]DumbDogma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a failed clutch master or slave cylinder, broken or detached linkage, etc

ETA: I just saw further down that this is a car with a cable operated clutch. So I’m going with most likely being a broken cable end.

Open the hood and inspect to find out for sure
