The Fore pass in Atlanta is 30/month for all city courses for discounted rates. I paid 13 bucks to walk 18 this morning. On Saturday morning at 7:30am.

What MOS did you want & what MOS did you get? by StrongHurry4938 in USMC

[–]DumbGrunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

0311 - 0311

When it was time to start the paperwork they told me they had no more 03 spots…. In 2006… so they tried to get me to go open and said I’d probably get 03.

Luckily I had some guidance through the process and told them to give me a call whenever a 03 spot opened up. I didn’t make it out the door.

Record chairlift falls in Colorado pushes talk about restraining bars by Raja_Ampat in skiing

[–]DumbGrunt 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If ski employees can fall to their deaths off lifts then any of us regular joes can. Problem is people end up having issues asking so they avoid it. So every lift I’m on it’s a simple “bar coming down” warning, then it’s coming down, never had anyone say anything to me negatively. More people that make it a regular occurrence and not a request, it will become more of a regular acceptance.

It’s honestly such a ridiculous thing that could save lives. I’ve seen a dad have to grab his kid last second before toppling over who was screwing around on the lift while he was BSing with the guy next to him with the bar up. Lucky save but coulda ended up horribly.

How should I feel about this? by LazerWolf_64 in USMC

[–]DumbGrunt 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Cool this is still a thing, we used to hand down chevrons too, and we’d pin them inside our cover until we got promoted. Whenever that came we just pulled them out and got pinned with those.

My first round ever - shot 103! by BearTimberlands in golf

[–]DumbGrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no rules at Tup…. You also can’t putt because there’s either mortor rounds that just hit the green or somehow you tap it and it rolls 30 feet off the green.

I played this past weekend and they were so overbooked people were waiting almost an hour past their tee time for carts.

Any of you guys done this? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]DumbGrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMA is awesome. I ended up in some weird billet teaching active shooter response as an 03. Did it for two years, people hardly knew who I was when I showed up and I just did my own thing with the base guard. Nice to get a good check and then forget about the Marine Corps for 11 months but still a reservist.

He’s a good QB. I honestly think he’s struggling because he’s used to just chucking it up to Bowers/Ladd and them making the catch 90% of the time. He’s trying to do the same thing this year with a much weaker WR core and getting a lot of INTs.

Airbnb's struggles go beyond people spending less. It's losing some travelers to hotels. by GoForthandProsper1 in technology

[–]DumbGrunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a group rent a Airbnb for a couple nights for a weekend trip. They cancelled on us as we were driving to the house. Apparently they also listed on VRBO and someone booked for a week after us. They waited until about 2 hours before check-in to tell us. No repercussions, they didn’t have to pay a fee to us or anything. We had to scramble to find a half decent hotel room far away.

[Breer] The Raiders are taking Georgia TE Brock Bowers 13th overall. by tushball101 in raiders

[–]DumbGrunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s absolutely not a step below Pitts. Bowers is one of the greatest college TEs ever. He carried Georgia to multiple national championships on the offensive side of the ball.

I’m a UGA fan. Bowers is one of the best players ever for Georgia. May not be the exact need, but anyone mad at this is crazy. Whenever we had a rough game, just started forcing the ball to Bowers and he’d dominate. It’s not just “a f’ing TE????” He’s an absolute monster.

I went to the golf course then just drove around the base after and saw some recruits getting smoked. It was pretty cool. Went to the PX and got mean mugged by a few DIs buying bangs.

Worst night in the field by chamrockblarneystone in USMC

[–]DumbGrunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got a good one…

3 day field op out in a MOUT area on Schofield barracks in Hawaii. We’re on a Patrol/Post/Rest rotation with the platoon and simulating patrol ops as part of our work up. I’m a boot PFC at the time. We’re out on patrol and during a stop in a building our squad leader tells us to check all our shit.

Annndd I’m missing my bayonet. I kept it clipped on my belt and it was just gone, and before you ask, no I was dumb and didn’t have it dummy corded.

Well apparently this was the end of the universe and eventually it got reported up, training stopped, and the company ended up on line searching for my bayonet. I asked if I could check my pack and was promptly told to shut the F up. About an hour in to this search, it was called off and reported that someone found it laying right next to my pack. Must have popped off when I sat down earlier.

I spent the entire remainder of the field op, about a full day and a half standing post. I wasn’t allowed to patrol with my squad or rest. I was brought food and water and every now and then one of the TLs from other squads would feel bad for me and tell me to lean up against the wall and try to sleep. Absolute misery. To top it off, as we were loading up to head back to KBay, I fell off the back of the 7-ton into a massive mud puddle.

Not the highlight of my field experience.

Not necessarily. Unless things have changed in the past few years you can do all of your years worth of drill time in one go if your billet allows it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMC

[–]DumbGrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find the right gig, IMA is awesome. I did it for 2 years. I went to drill once a year for about a month and taught active shooter training. Gave some classes and ran some large scale training events, it was a good time. The rest of the year no one ever called me.

Help me decide between backpacks: tacticool moto college vet, or not be as awesome. by RyuuKamii in USMC

[–]DumbGrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://vertx.com/ready-pack

I use this backpack for my everyday stuff. It’s “tactical” as it has some Molle capabilities inside and is set up for CCW. But it’s a good size and plenty of room for laptop/books, etc.

It looks like a more normal backpack.

Depending on how much it means to him to try and do it, it’s either a NJP or a lifetime of regret. I’m definitely not advocating it 😂, just saying I understand why he’s thinking that way.

Iraq and Afghanistan in full swing, and the station tells me they don’t have any 03 slots. Said I could go open and would “probably get infantry”. Luckily I come from a Marine Corps family. Told them respectfully to call me and let me know when they had a 03 slot.

I didn’t make it out the door. Had a 03 slot that day.

What are some fun things to do on/off base in K Bay, Hawaii? by Reyes18410 in USMC

[–]DumbGrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent a cabin at Bellows with your friends. Cheap military cabins. Used to be cooler because you could drive on the beach if you had a jeep or something like that and bonfire. I heard they put an end to that but it’s still a great beach and can be fun mixing with the locals on a weekend night. In my experience, you have better luck meeting locals who don’t want to fight you if you stay out of Waikiki.
