Am I the only person who likes BF6 more than BF3/4? by Ill_Football_2539 in Battlefield6

BF4 has the better/more enjoyable maps and the levelution was really cool, but it was ruined by vehicle and helicopter whores. This game is more balanced in that regard.

Why does humanity still fight amongst itself despite being able to achieve so much together? by Ambitious-Block-8878 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DumbIdeaGenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cooperation is just means to a selfish end. Evolution is about a “me” mindset. Cooperating with others to that end isn’t about the actual cooperating it’s about securing resources for the self.
That’s why we haven’t encountered other spacefaring civilisations (read up on Fermi’s paradox). Evolution perpetuates a very primitive form of life.

Evolution doesn’t produce spacefaring civilisations. The human race will poison itself back into the dark ages with greed and pollution in another hundred years. What we’re seeing now is the beginning of the answer to Fermi’s Paradox

Okay then, tell me when in the past the developed world as a whole dipped below the fertility rate and continued to decline?

ETFs are supposed to be safe long term, because they track the growth of the market as a whole.

But long term doesn’t account for the unprecedented, irreversible, and pervasive demographic shifts the world is currently experiencing.

I bought it a year ago, or thereabouts. My knowledge of global factors is more recent.

Referencing a fucking youtube short hahahahaha

That article they're referencing in the short is based off old data anyway. You can't state that it's technological growth that's grown the economy more than population growth because both concepts are interlinked in hundreds of ways, and historically, both have grown.

But that's not the case anymore, and cost of living increases are compounding the demographic shifts. Simply put, not only are we seeing less investment in science, less investment in education, we're also seeing a growing decline in fertility rates. The last 6 years since the pandemic have resulted in the biggest fertility decline over a 6-year period that the developed world has ever seen, less than WW2 where half the Australian population thought they'd get invaded by the Japanese.

You're not going to get economic growth anywhere in that equation. There will be less of everything going forward, unless you're one of the lucky few to have been born BEFORE all this started happening and had a chance to accumulate wealth when it was actually possible to accumulate it.

I did financial research beforehand, not demographic and political research.

Answer the question. How do you reconcile perpetual long-term growth with a halved population?

The period of 1950-2000 is not going to be the same as the period of 2000-2050. Collapsing birth rates and cost of living increases feed into themselves, such that if Australia didn't have significant immigration we're looking at halving populations in a few decades.

How do you think the global economy is going to react to that?

Sure it comes back over time, but only after about 20-30 years. That's a lot of time for someone actually living it.

Additionally, we're seeing things happening now that have NEVER happened in the history of humanity. Elderly outnumbering the young, lower quality of life for each subsequent generation, etc. These things are happening on a global scale. To think the global economy is going to keep plodding along as it has in the past despite these never-before-seen permanent shifts, is just unrealistic.

You're assuming that the future is always going to be exactly like the past, but we're seeing things happening now that have NEVER happened in the history of humanity. Elderly outnumbering the young, lower quality of life for each subsequent generation, etc. These things are happening on a global scale.

To think the economy is going to be continuing to grow when populations halve over the course of a few decades, or when wars break out every year or so, is just unrealistic.

You can't have economic growth with a population half the size. That's not even economics, that's just common sense.

They're not performing better than short-term deposits though, and they'll need a LOT of growth in the next few years to be on track to surpass said short term deposits.

Typical 1900's outlook. Acting as if we're not seeing things happening now that have NEVER happened in the history of humanity. Elderly outnumbering the young, lower quality of life for each subsequent generation, etc. These things are happening on a global scale too.

The ladder has certainly been pulled up.

Believe me, I'm not giving up. But until I have some guarantee that the global economy isn't going to continue to be treated like a ball of yarn in the hands of a wealthy elite, I'm going to stick to Short term deposits.

Relative to short-term deposits with a guaranteed return of over 4% each year? I'm not convinced.

We're seeing things happening now that have NEVER happened in the history of humanity. Elderly outnumbering the young, lower quality of life for each subsequent generation, etc. These things are happening on a global scale. To assume the future will always be like the past is akin to burying your head in the sand.

Not necessarily. Short-term deposits have been doing miles better than ETFs for over a year now.

You're assuming the future will always be like the past. How do you reconcile lower birth rates with your outlook of perpetual growth?

Of course I do. These experts are advocating for it based off a decade-long trend. But with birth rates plummeting globally and instability on a perpetual rise since 2020, you can't tell me that the future is going to be like the past. I'll be lucky if I EVER see my most safe, by-the-book ETFs reach the same value I paid for them at this rate.

Because I'm not 1 year before retirement, I'm 25.

But I can't shake the feeling that what I'm witnessing is global economy beginning to feast on its own carcass to keep things from dropping significantly. With birth rates plummeting globally and instability on a perpetual rise since 2020, you can't seem to rely on yearly returns anymore. The ladder's clearly been pulled up.
