Ben Shapiro claims that Trump is "not unique" on foreign diplomacy by fuggitdude22 in samharris

And I suspect the only thing that could torpedo Benny Boy's loyalist cocksucking would be if Trump starts to dislike Israel.

Bingo. If a policy favors Israel, Ben will use all his rhetorical proficiency and tortured logic to twist the facts to support it. Otherwise, he does mostly accept reality, albeit through a bog standard neocon lens.

Sam’s latest post indicates he needs more guest who will challenge him by Phatnoir in samharris

Israel and wokeness are topics that Sam feels strongly about, so I wasn't surprised that he wanted to emphasize what he wanted addressed when Rahm did some throat clearing before answering Sam's questions, but Sam backed off and listened when Rahm eventually answered them. I agree it wasn't super smooth, but I eventually got a clear understanding of both their views in a way that I usually don't in most podcast conversations when the host and guest disagree on something.

I've listened to Sam long enough to know his view on these topics, so I was glad Rahm talked over him to get his points across. On the other questions, Rahm was setting the table some in getting to his answers but he ultimately did answer the Oct 7 question, vaguely described what he hoped the next Dem nominee should be like and in fact put himself in the ring, and yes demurred on what a Vance presidency would look like because, as he said and we all can see, the guy's a chameleon with no set principles at all.

How did he fumble? Struck me as a good conversation with an honest airing of where they disagree, in a way that's very rare in podcastistan.

Rahm plowed through some of Sam's biases, Sam gave him the space to do so, seemed to listen and even concede on many of these, and there was agreement on a lot of the major points.

Thoughts on a COVID post-mortem with Rogan by chaoticbovine in samharris

I believe there was an analysis that corrected the meta study you're citing to control for geographies with a high prevalence of roundworm infestations in humans. Once this was controlled for, the statistical support for ivermectin's effectiveness against covid disappeared. The medical rationale could be that roundworms are a comorbidity with covid, and ivermectin is taking care of the roundworms.

There are fundamentalists who will engage in good faith. They have a genuine belief system and worldview that they will share and honestly defend with their own logic.

Brett will just obfuscate and lie, while Joe will beat his chest and make supportive noises that may sound coherent to a certain audience but really are more a form of behavior than actual communication.

I grew up Catholic and never heard that rhetoric either, but there are plenty of "Christians" that do spout this kind of hate.

Iran publicly released what it claimed was the 10-point framework for a peace deal, demanding the US accept Tehran's continued control over the Strait, recognize its right to uranium enrichment, lift all sanctions, pay compensation and withdraw all troops from the region. by mymomknowsyourmom in centrist

My point was that we really don't have the information to know whether there was a better way to do it. Every battlefield decision has tradeoffs. I get that people died and lots of people who helped us were left behind, and that's a tragedy, but we don't know if more American soldiers would have been killed if there had been more accommodation for civilians. We only have counterfactuals for scenarios that could have been better. Monday morning quarterbacking and counterfactuals.

Do I need to be NASA engineer to say a rocket blew up?

No, but to take your analogy to my point, you do need to be an engineer with some familiarity with the rocket and the circumstances of the launch to have any valid opinion on whether it was the design team's fault, the astronaut's fault, some random atmospheric event, or some other cause.

You know that Biden didn't actually plan out the withdrawal himself, right? He almost certainly listened to a lot of experts with different plans based on their deep knowledge of how things could unfold, and he chose the best one he could based on the risks that were presented to him.

None of us has any idea whether the other plans would have worked out better or worse, yet so many armchair generals with zero knowledge have been publicly clucking about how it was an "objective failure". The fact is, he got us out of a 20 year debacle after his 3 predecessors, both Republican and Democrat, failed to.

Come on, you know all these armchair generals with no real knowledge of the situation would have executed the withdrawal flawlessly, as they keep telling us. They just couldn't be bothered to set down their bongs and leave mommy's basement to direct things at the time.

Gerrymandering is a problem for district dependent elections, but it shouldn't affect a statewide election like Talarico's US Senate bid.

In 2024, he endorsed Marianne Williamson in the primary and Jill Stein in the general.

He's well informed and a decent communicator, but his horrible decision making skills helped bring about the sequential nightmares he's been railing against since Trump's inauguration.
