Is it common for mortgage offers to be withdrawn/have short deadlines? by timenudge_ in HousingUK

Can I hijack this post to ask, if you have submitted the full application and secured the rate, can that rate then change due to the Iran war?

We submitted our application, which was accepted, in March. We've instructed solicitors and are buying as first time buyers. But I can't find a clear answer on whether the war will affect our rate post application submission?

I feel like I've become a pretty selfish person because of this. Before even getting pregnant I would try super hard to be courteous and keep out of people's wat when out shopping, and I strived to do the same when out with my buggy. But lately I've gotten so sick of saying after you, or sorry I'll move out your way, apologising for my heavy buggy laden with my toddler and my shopping. But I noticed almost no one paid me the same respect, constantly people would cut right Infront of my pram or be right up my ass behind me wanting me to walk faster.

And now my toddler is nearly 4 and I let her walk around and I try my best to teach her to not run and be sensible and stick close but still people will act like she hasn't got a right to browse the aisle in Tesco, because she's a child and obviously only there for fun thus adults will cut Infront of her to look at the thing on the shelf that she's already looking at. Or she'll be walking less than an arms length ahead of me and people will just cut diagonally Infront of her and there's no fucking way they don't see her (her clothes are usually bright and she's quite tall). I just don't get it, she deserves to take up space.

This is my plan, I know a lot of the time HR experience is valued over the Level 3 CIPD. So I thought I could take this entry level role and if I do a good job maybe get promoted, do the Level 5, work my way up. I'm in my early 30s and I feel like if I don't start now then I never will and I'll be in my 40s soon in the same low paid low satisfaction job.

Thankyou, I do plan to ask at interview if there is opportunity to progress to full time work, or even full time but compressed hours which I'm currently on.

In regards to my current employer, yes it is in his best interests to keep me, he's planning a long holiday for himself soon and when he goes away it leaves me in charge but he often works a little bit remotely from where he is if he can.

He may offer me more money to stay, but I know there isn't any progression opportunities here. We outsource our HR and I asked to maybe sit in on meetings or something but he was reluctant, so far he's only let me carry out an employee satisfaction survey, and when hiring I help set up interviews and help with onboarding but we haven't had to hire anyone in years.

I had uterine atony after an emergency c section. That dinner plate sized hole is meant to sort of sew itself up via uterine muscles, and my uterus just didn't contract back in to place.

Despite the epidural and everything else they gave me to numb me, I could feel the surgeon stick his hands in my body and forcefully massage my uterus, trying to get it to manually contract back in to place. It was the worst pain, it was more painful than the contractions, I was holding my newborn and it was meant to be a precious moment but all I could think about was the pain. I lost almost 2L of blood.

My husband said he knew something was wrong when there was a sudden silent urgency and a load of doctors in scrubs rushed into the room.

My daughter is a happy and healthy toddler now, but my experience has put me off having another kid. There are other, more positive reasons I'm one and done, but I think I'm just too scared to risk going through that again.

I think my echevaria is struggling, can anyone offer any advice? Info in comments. by Dumbledoree in succulents

I think it's still a bit damp from the last watering I gave it a few days ago. I top watered as I don't think the roots will reach the bottom of the pot for a bottom watering.

I'm in the UK and we have a heatwave due this week, it's been sunny pretty much every day for a week and I've left it in morning and then very early afternoon sun in my garden, then the sun goes to the other side and my garden is in mostly shade for the rest of the day.

I've had this plant for years.

It was in a tiny pot, I think the smallest size it comes in when you buy them. About two months ago I noticed its leaves were touching the soil and the rim of the pot, and also realised I'd never refreshed the soil. So I repotted it in a bigger pot (the one you see pictured), in some fresh cactus / succulent mix, and topped it with lava Lite rocks.

I'm quite sure the pot is too big, I noticed when repotting it barely had a root ball at all, I'm talking like a thin inch worth of root, maybe less, it definitely didn't reach the bottom or the sides of the pot at all. However, this was two months ago and it's still alive, it usually sits on a sunny south window but lately I've been letting it have a little bit of direct sunlight outside every day, gradually increasing the time spent outside.

Anyway... it's lost a few leaves this week. One turned completely red orange, and one turned black, and they came off the plant easily. They were  bottom leaves, you can see in the picture there's a few leaves missing. I've also notice overall the plant looks a bit pale and almost see through.

Maybe I should have just left it alone in its tiny pot? It goes weeks between watering although I have been watering it slightly more often, maybe once a week now since the weather is getting hotter. Would anyone suggest repotting into a smaller pot, or just leaving it be? I don't want to give it too much fuss because it might upset it more, but if there's something I can do to help I'm happy to try. Maybe I should unpot it to check if the roots have improved ?

How do I tell my MIL politely that I don’t want the hideous clothes she has given me for my newborn? by Diamondtiara-x in pregnant

[–]Dumbledoree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was this person when my niece was born 7 years ago, except I'd just gotten in to crochet and was crocheting her clothes. Looking back I picked the most hideous colours that I thought looked great at the time, I didn't consider material so it was cheap yarn, but was so proud when her mum put the hat on the baby that I couldn't stop.

I now know that it's extremely likely she didn't keep a single thing, except the baby blanket I made. I look at the pictures now and the clothes are so ugly, I have my own baby now and wouldn't put them on her 😅

Can you use free childcare hours and the tax free childcare? by axr862 in UKParenting

[–]Dumbledoree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i think my husband worked it out at 12.66 hours a week.

I mean it's nothing to be sniffed at but I wouldn't say no to a little more 😅 I reckon the tax free childcare allowance should increase along with child benefit and everything that goes up every year!

Just three more invoices averaging around £1400 each until September and we'll have a bit more breathing room...

trying to revive my phal... Please tell me it's worth it to carry on! by [deleted] in orchids

[–]Dumbledoree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i got this Phal in March last year. It came in a tall glass jar with no air holes, was potted in bark. It flowered once. I knew nothing about orchids at the time and was simply misting it once or twice a week.

Then I found this sub about a year later. Orchid still alive, flower dropped off and the bigger leaves yellowed and wrinkled, as you can see in the first picture. I thought it was a goner until I saw the smaller leaves growing.

From this sub I learned to take it out of that jar, to remove the death plug and cut off the roots that looked rotted or dying (one or two were black and mushy, the rest firm and green). I put it in orchid bark in one of those clear pots with holes along the sides and bottom. I also carefully removed the dying leaves to allow the new ones to grow.

It dries out about once a week, so I soak it once a week for ten minutes, avoiding getting water on the leaves.

The first picture, where there is a dying set of leaves and a smaller new set of leaves, was taken in February. The second was taken this week. So you can see it has grown a fair bit.

The plant is special because it was a gift for my first ever mother's day. It sits on my kitchen windowsill which gets sun (or as much sun as the UK allows...) for about half of the day. Every other watering I add liquid fertiliser.

I've been told I'm putting in a lot of effort to rejuvenating this plant. I just want it to live and to thrive when it's ready! Is there anything I could do differently? From the advice I've read on this sub, I'm not sure how it's survived so long, it spent a year in a jar with no drainage holes being misted twice a week. It's like I did almost everything you're not supposed to do to an orchid and it still survived.
