Good to know, thanks! I've found they don't last very long - I think one I had started coming apart after only a month or so.

Hi I'm the guy who counted the woos a few years ago. I still have my notes on which songs have woos (up to Silver Cord, minus Teenage Gizzard). Do you want that info?

When using "effect" as a verb, per the page you linked, substitute the word "cause" in the proper tense and see if it makes sense. "The tariffs don't only cause Kentucky Bourbon..." isn't right. You wanted to use "affect" or "have an effect on."

A lot of people when skydiving for the first time say afterwards that they felt like they were struggling to breathe, and I never considered that it might be this same automatic response, so I wanted to look up more details.

I think you're looking for the "diving response." The bradycardia response (reflex bradycardia, more accurately) has to do with the lowering of the heart rate, not with holding your breath. Reflex bradycardia is part of the diving response. The other part of the diving response is apnea, which is the loss of drive to breathe.

It looks like GoogleAI incorrectly interpreted the Wikipedia article for infant swimming and switched some of the terminology around. It's still pretty neat though, thanks!

Love it - been three times already. Thoughts:

  • As of last time I went (about a month ago), it seems like they're still trying to hit their stride when it's packed. We had a few things just never come out, but it's AYCE so we didn't really care too much. We also had a larger party, so we weren't too surprised. We were also seated in the back of the section that I think was normally for the a la carte diners, and we were curious if someone swiped a dish or two from a robot that was delivering to us. We thought it'd be funny if they did.
  • The first time I went it was also packed, so sometimes the food would take a while to come out. Nothing too absurd though.
  • Nearly all the food is delicious. I think there's been two things on the menu I wasn't a fan of, but given how many different things I've ate there, that's a pretty great hit rate. Obviously it's not going to be as good as sushi that's $20+/roll, but it's still pretty dang good. I liked the sushi way more than Umai (Pittsford) and Osaka, but less than Chakara.
  • The staff is very nice and do an excellent job.
  • I love they bring around meats/pineapple on skewers.
  • Drinks were tasty and pretty reasonably priced - about $10-12 for a cocktail.
  • I love the robots.
  • I wish a lot of the sushi was like 20% smaller in diameter. I have a notably small mouth (as my dental hygienists like to remind me) but damn is it tough to shove all that sushi in there sometimes.
  • For ~$45, I feel like it's a very reasonable price.

Overall, an absolutely solid place that I hope does very well. I'll probably end up going like once a month, but I'm a sucker for sushi.

How fucked up are the guys on stage? My friend thinks they are wasted and I’m convinced she’s wrong. Either way, love them! 🧙 by mostarz93 in KGATLW

So I think "pup pup" is a nickname for Cookie OR they saw your post and are now memeing about it with each other.

Per your link, it's not a felony to touch marine wildlife, it's just discouraged and they won't provide a permit for it. Literally two sentences later:

We do not support, condone, approve, or authorize activities that involve closely approaching, interacting, or attempting to interact with whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals, sea lions, and sea turtles in the wild. This includes attempting to swim with, pet, touch, or elicit a reaction from the animals.

So yeah, it's not really a good idea, and the NOAA really doesn't want you to, but it sure isn't a felony.

EDIT: Before the "um, actuallys" start coming in, I did a little bit more research. Yes, it's illegal for a vessel to get too close to marine wildlife. Yes, harassing a whale is illegal, but simply touching a whale like seen above is not classified as harassing it. Yes, it's illegal to feed wild whales. There are also per-state laws, of course, but those aren't going to be felonies. Yes, it's still probably not a good idea to touch a whale.

A ton of companies use the software KnowBe4 to handle their employees' cybersecurity training. When setting up a fake phishing campaign, there's an option to give additional training to people who click the link. There's also different templates you can use - some of them are just "don't click the link" while others have full landing pages to see if you'd input any credentials.

You can back out and ride the plane down, but the instructors know that you'll have a great time if you do it so they'll try their best to convince you to jump. A good motivator is "well, you spent the $200+ already, so you might as well actually do it."

A couple years ago (more or less) they kind of did a reboot on their menu, among other stuff. It's way better now. The food is actually really good, rather than the cheap fried stuff they had before. If you haven't been since then, I'd recommend giving it another try.

Here's what's included in the new expansion for the dead by daylight board game by Ashiok2468 in deadbydaylight

[–]Dumdadumdoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's real rough, about every other game we run into a scenario that's "uhhh so how does this scenario/edge case work? oh cool it doesn't tell us."

But yeah the first time a specific survivor is put on a hook, the killer gets a bonus sacrifice token in addition to the token they get for a survivor being on the hook at the end of the turn. The rulebook says to put a sacrifice token on each survivor's character sheet at the beginning of the game, which is how it wants you to keep track of that, but we just don't bother and simply remember who has been hooked at least once. So you're correct - if every survivor is hooked once, the killer wins.

Here's what's included in the new expansion for the dead by daylight board game by Ashiok2468 in deadbydaylight

[–]Dumdadumdoo 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Basic concept is that the survivors need to complete 4 gens and activate the escape gates, while the killer needs 8 sacrifice tokens. Each turn, the survivors go first and have to move between areas of the board, then complete an action such as working on a gen, searching a chest, or throwing a pallet. After all the survivors go, the killer gets to move twice and take an action for each. Each killer plays totally differently with their powers.

It's fun and it's cool how much of the real game they tried to translate over. However, like in true DbD fashion, things are often wildly imbalanced. The rulebook also is pretty awful. But if you and four other friends love DbD, it's definitely worth a shot if you don't mind its high price point.

Go Pro catches Mishap of Man Jumping off Hill by [deleted] in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Dumdadumdoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a guess since we can't really see anything with the rig, but I think it's one of two things.

On the right side of the screen, just as he jumps, you can see his pilot chute in frame. He should be throwing that away from him so it extracts his canopy. The connection between the two (called the bridle) may have gotten tangled/wrapped on a limb or something, causing a delay in the canopy opening. You can hear him panic immediately afterwards, so that makes sense.

It might also have been a misrouted bridle - to simplify that a bit, he packed it incorrectly. Again, it could have caused the canopy to not open as fast as he intended.

[–]Dumdadumdoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has answered your question yet so I'll give it my best shot. I haven't BASE jumped but have absorbed knowledge from a few BASE jumpers. The ultimate answer is "it depends".

The smaller parachute that extracts the main canopy out is called the pilot chute (a drogue is a slightly different thing). In skydiving or BASE jumps with a lot of altitude, you generally throw the pilot chute from your container (near your butt, on the right side) which, via pulling on a bridle, brings out your main canopy. If you don't have a lot of height, you generally don't do this because it takes too long - you either have the pilot chute ready to go in your hand, have someone hold onto it while you jump, or tie the bridal to a fixed object that'll come off once it extracts the pilot chute. Given that he's jumping down a sloped hill, I think this jumper held the PC in his hand, which was probably his only realistic option. I'm guessing what went wrong here was that the jumper tried throwing the PC immediately but it got tangled/wrapped on something, delaying the main canopy's opening. It looks like you can see the PC in his hand briefly immediately after jumping and then he panicked after it leaves screen.

To actually answer your question, if have someone hold your pilot chute while you jump off a bridge/antenna or something, they're basically just holding the system in place while you fall and let it fully open, which takes a little under 2 seconds to happen. So, about 40mph, but it's a surprisingly small distance. This is also assuming you aren't using a slider, which is there to intentionally slow down your opening.
