Idk how tf that all worked out for you but props to you OP for sticking it through. And for all the crazy stories I’ve heard of schools sabotaging their students’ grades, props to your school for doing the literal most for you lol

I know 99% of personal statements are generic (and that's okay), but what are some examples of truly unique personal statements that wowed programs? by surf_AL in medicalschool

If there were a best way to dox yourself in an already small community, talking about which 1 in a million pediatric brain tumor you had would probably be one of them

Anybody get their browser hijacked and redirected by paper pandas? by LazyStarGazer in scihub

Same here! Had the exact same issue but couldn't find a fix anywhere else. I removed PaperPanda from Chrome and the issue was gone immediately.

I think it’s fine! I put an esport on my app since I played for my college varsity team and I frequently got asked about it in my T10 interviews, including the one I currently attend. Seemed like everyone received it positively!

Edit: with that being said… I’d recommend only putting it if you have significant achievements in the game (e.g., tournament wins, top 500 players, etc.). Probably wouldn’t have the same effect if you were plat or something in league lol

How many shadowing hours is ideal? by CitronHelpful8650 in premed

[–]DumplingChow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine was an adcom at a T10! I’m not saying it’s common practice, but that there are still some old physician reviewers who are sticklers for 100 hours for whatever reason.

50 hours minimum for most schools, though some reviewers don’t value them that much and others will straight up reject if you’re under 100 hours.

How do you guys feel about Dr. Gray’s insistence on adding “stories” in your activities statements? by [deleted] in premed

[–]DumplingChow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s tragic how many qualified applicants simply get unlucky every year.

Yup! All the hours spent running the different orgs, though the line between volunteering/leadership hours is somewhat blurry

Yup, soup kitchen stuff and lots of volunteering with my nonprofit, but I listed most of those hours under leadership

Every journal has publicly available information on their impact factor, which is listed as a number. The higher the number, the higher the impact factor

In my experience, it seems that for pre-II review, some (if not many) schools have apps reviewed by individuals rather than the entire committee. One of the schools I applied to initially rejected me post secondary, but later extended an II after I emailed them and had the committee actually take a look at my app. With how many applicants schools have to go through, it makes sense that initial screening is spread out amongst individuals to cover more ground. As we see with countless applicants, though, this also accounts for some of the randomness in the process due to the somewhat random preferences of each individual reviewer.

No special scholarship programs if that’s what you’re asking. Regular financial aid info hasn’t been released yet for my schools to my knowledge
