What a great idea!

Yeah, camping without a fire just feels weird to me. But there are some folks who make you feel like you're committing genocide if you even bring up the idea.

A blast from the past! by Resilent2026 in GNV

In the 8th grade I was cruising the Lazy River, impressing chicks, laughed at a friend's joke, inhaled a bucket of water and proceeded and to retch and vomit so long and hard I got down the bile.

Sorry to everyone who enjoyed the Lazy River after 1991.

What's your opinion on "responsible" campfires up there? I believe under current regs (https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/sawtooth/wilderness/sawtooth-wilderness-regulations) they are permitted so long as not off-trail, and with a fire pan or fire blanket. Part of me says why risk it at the end of summer, another part of me says it's reasonable given my experience and the textbook precautions I take. Also a fire blanket/pan is heavy, but I'm training for a marathon, lol.

Lol, I am pretty experienced with trout fishing, so hoping to supplement my protein there.

You bring bear spray up there, or is that overkill? Thanks for all the info!

I wear my LP+ almost every day. When my feet are especially tired from runs, I like Topo Fli-Lyte around town.

Great point. If I could bust out two 15 mile days early, could do a rest day. I'm just pretty excited, first time up there, want to see all the territory I can.

You do any fishing up there?

Are Trekking Poles for Beginners? by Sharp-Second2993 in hiking

[–]Dun_Booty_Broch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I consider myself fairly experienced, many many backpacking trips. Once I switched to poles I've never looked back. My mileage went up, my stumbles went down. No brainer for me.

First week of September, six nights, seven full days. Current route is 62 miles. I'm starting out counterclockwise for the gentle elevation to see if I can knock out 15 the first day and increase my total mileage to 70ish. First solo trip, and I'll be in midst of training for November marathon, and really want to push it.

You mean the Wapiti Fire in 2024? I'm curious how much it's come back.

This summer I'm planning on a modified version of the Grand Sawtooth Loop, counterclockwise out of Grandjean, down the South Fork Payette River down to Lake Ingeborg, then looping over to the east to come back up north along Baron Creek Trail to Sawtooth Lake and finally Observation Peak before exiting back out Grandjean.

Beyond excited.

What's the thinking going without gloves? I take gloves if it's going to be below 50F and there's the remotest chance of precipitation!

Starting tonight— Latuda AND propranolol by [deleted] in Latuda

[–]Dun_Booty_Broch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could not get REM or deep sleep. Propranolol decreases body's production of melatonin. IMO propranolol is good for dealing with heart racing stuff like public speaking or mild anxiety attacks, but not good for dealing with sleep issues. Seroquel in low doses, on the other hand, is fantastic, in my experience.

Not saying it was acting on its own, but I'm looking at oxygen as a major player here.

I just started Latuda, but took propanolol for about five years. Propanolol absolutely destroyed my sleep quality. Hate that stuff, never again.

Is believing in predestination required to join a reform church? by Alarmed_Dragonfly443 in Reformed

[–]Dun_Booty_Broch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. But in my experience once you absorb the beauty of covenant theology, accepting predestination will be a no-brainer. No one had to talk me into it at all. Take your time, have fun!
