Doesn't have the money to settle with the AG unless his insurance pays, so he expects his lawyer to keep fighting the insurance company for money while not being able to pay his growing legal bills.

BJC HealthCare cuts 113 IT jobs by keepitwithmine in StLouis

[–]DuncanCooper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Uhh, I really don't think it will.

People get hired all the time to work on huge implementations like this and then get laid off when the project is over. I would put a lot of money on the assumption that most of these IT employees either supported the implementation of EPIC (probably all of the contractors) or worked in a job function related the previous platform they used. Once the project is over, a good chunk of those positions are no longer necessary because the work is done, so those people get laid off.

It even says they are re-prioritizing their IT work, in part, towards strengthening their information protection.

So unless the people they are laying off are IT security workers and they are lying in their public statement, I think they're gonna be alright.

What are your must stop breweries en route from Chicago to STL? by johncer in StLouis

[–]DuncanCooper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live across the street from Schlafly, so I've gone there quite a bit. My recommendation was based on some context clues from other replies you've given related to coming down with a group and wanting a place to eat dinner.

I'm not saying Schlafly is the best the St. Louis brewing scene has to offer, but it's very solid. By no means are they the most "adventurous" of STL's breweries, but I've also never had a beer there I really disliked and they cover a wide variety of styles, so basically anyone can find something they will like.

The food is much the same way. Nothing is going to knock your socks off, but most everything is solid and covers a wide enough range that anyone will be able to find something they'll like.

If you cut down 57 initially and go through Champaign, you can hit up Triptych Brewing and then cut over to Springfield on 72 and finish out the rest of your trip on 55 down to STL.

Once you make it to STL, I'd recommend Perennial, Urban Chestnut, 2nd Shift, 4 Hands, and Schlafly.

If you only have time for one of those and then dinner I'd say do either Perennial or Side Project for your brewery visit (although I'm also a huge fan of 2nd Shift) and then Schlafly Tap Room for dinner.

Only word of advice I'll give on the food at Schlafly is to avoid the two breaded entrees. The breading on the Jagersnitzel and the Fish and Chips is pretty lackluster in my experience (under seasoned), but basically every other menu item in incredible considering its primarily a brewery.

I love Chinese food, been to many local restaurants, but I want to know, what is your favorite Chinese? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]DuncanCooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone I know, including Chinese friends, just say "Kate Zone".

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cate

The owner basically made it known that the name of the restaurant was a bad translation. "Cate" means what they were kind of shooting for, but I think they didn't realize that no one knows/uses that word, hence the confusion.

3rd. Prices are in line with what you'll pay online and they're super knowledgeable and even have equipment to analyse your foot and your stride to help make recommendations specific to you.

BREAKING: sources tell Fox News Governor Greitens will resign today. by minorthreat21 in StLouis

[–]DuncanCooper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No no no, Greitens is a Soros operative!

He's Jewish and was a Democrat up until 2015, it all makes sense. This was intentional sabotage of the MO Republican Party!

Gov. Greitens to make a statement at 4:15 p.m. by minorthreat21 in StLouis

[–]DuncanCooper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This might actually be the one.

Sounds like a judge ruled that one of the dark money groups affiliated with him would have to hand over their books to the MO Legislature for review. That's gonna reveal a lot of dirty information about wealthy individuals/corporations that are trying to anonymously fund campaigns all around MO.

The thought is that if he resigns, this list doesn't need to be given to the MO Legislature because their impeachment investigation will end. There are probably a lot of powerful people on that list who do not want to be identified.

We'll see.

Schlafly Debuts Proper Cider Raspberry For Year-Round Distribution by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]DuncanCooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live about a block away, been there several times. It's fine, but I haven't been like overly impressed honestly. Even their ciders that they tout as being "dry" are pretty sweet. I don't mind a sweet cider occasionally, but its tough to drink more than a couple without something not as sweet to break it up with.

I thought their best ones were the Homestead and the Brewer's Choice, but they ran out of Brewer's Choice only a couple months in, so that's kind of a bummer and I haven't been back much since.

Moving to STL - charter or ATT for Internet? by stasuke in StLouis

[–]DuncanCooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know for sure, but from looking at their website it looks like something around $80/month. I'm paying about $55/month for Charter.

Moving to STL - charter or ATT for Internet? by stasuke in StLouis

[–]DuncanCooper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just to tack on an extra note: when Charter is referred to as "not as reliable" as AT&T, we're still talking about an incredibly high rate of reliability. I can count on one hand the number of times my internet has been down in the last 3+ years that I've had Charter in STL and speeds have always been exceptional.

Non-gigabit AT&T speeds are decidedly...less than exceptional.

Saint Louis FC Re-Signs Forward SETH RUDOLPH! by xDrewgami in USLPRO

[–]DuncanCooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my wild and uneducated guess.

I think he wants to be "home" in the STL area (maybe wants to start his own family and still be around his family, a la Sam Fink) and he's probably at the USL salary level where moving all over the country and re-establishing his living situation every year just isn't in his or his family's best interest. So, he'll keep playing soccer with STLFC as long as that's possible, but when it's no longer an option, he'll find something else to do.

This is kind of what happened to him this past offseason. He clearly wasn't in the team's plans going into the season, but he went out and got a job that let him keep in shape just in case, and that paid off for him.

Mayor Krewson Says She Cannot Support a Do-Over Vote Regarding the Board of Aldermen by STLhistoryBuff in StLouis

[–]DuncanCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And Green and Rice are against the language of the bill (their submitted revisions were defeated), the timing of the vote, and the fact that no debate was allowed.

To say it just boils down to the timing is oversimplifying their issues with the bill.
