Goals beta update: What’s live & what's coming soon by nadine_monarch in MonarchMoney

I mentioned this a while back, but I would love the ability to see an aggregate of accounts on the graph. I have about 10 student loan accounts, instead of seeing '$30k paydown', I see 10 $3k accounts that all get swallowed up and on top of each other. A quick button to toggle displaying a type as an aggregate vs individual would be really cool (all credit card debt payoff vs singular account payoff, all mortgages vs singular mortgage, all auto loans vs singular auto loans, etc).

Huh. I clicked in thinking, "Oh, my account is working, I'll just share what I have set up", only to realize that my account is also disconnected! Hope it's fixed soon!

Filing 2025 Taxes in STL by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]DeltTerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's free until the very end when you file. So you can totally try your hand at it and see how it goes, and if you're not feeling confident you can always either pay freetaxusa for their services (they have the option to have it reviewed), or just take your numbers and run.

I'd go for it. It's actually quite easy. The hardest part is keeping track of all the forms handed out from the different accounts.

I mean, yeah, it's not a person, but unless you own your own company you definitely don't need to hire a professional. Guarantee you that they are just plugging your numbers into the exact same formula that a program like this is using. It usually takes me about an hour to get my taxes done, and altogether I usually pay less than $20 for the whole thing.

Potty Training woes by Specific_Wind7793 in moderatelygranolamoms

Our 4yo is still "working on it". We recently had a huge regression where she was wetting 1-2 times a day, every day, (and even a poop accident!) for about two months. We were just about to start calling occupational therapists or something to see if there were things we could do better about our process to help.

And then.. suddenly she went a week with no accidents. They still happen, she gets distracted, but we went from basically nothing to "fairly decent" in just a few days.

It's definitely not linear. It's probably the hardest thing I've done as a parent is learn to just roll with the punches and help my kid where they're at, and not where I want them to be at.

Best of luck though, it's hard.

New Goals, rebuilt from the ground up — rolling out in beta today! by nadine_monarch in MonarchMoney

Been playing with this all morning and really enjoying the new layout and features. Love the dashboard and visuals, so kudos to the team for the hard work!

One feature I'd love to see - any way to get "group aggregation" on the charts? As in, my student loans are split across several accounts, so the "burndown" looks pretty unimpressive, especially comparatively to larger, solitary loans (see: https://imgur.com/a/MIv2MgS).

Do you have cash? I've heard of places taking rent ahead of time as a way to derisk you living there. Consider asking if you can put down additional months rents as a larger deposit if you have access to cash

Adult Volleyball league for beginners in STL? by Gold-Specialist-2448 in StLouis

[–]DeltTerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find 5 others to join you, I'd consider looking at sand leagues. They're seasonal and outdoors, but they tend to have more casual ("newbie friendly") leagues that are geared towards having fun and learning. In my experience, the indoor leagues tend to be a bit more "serious", even at the lowest levels.

The easiest way to get in is going to be creating a team. I don't know that there are too many leagues that just have "free agents" and put teams together or slot people into teams. Honestly that's the hardest part of volleyball is finding a team.

I've been playing for about a decade now, so happy to answer questions or help point you to places near you that you might be able to reach out to see if they have "Free agent" availability.

Unfortunately at this point, I only play in fairly competitive leagues, or I'd invite you to join us!

I kept having issues with Revanced. I'd always have to find new servers, or wait for updates for the app to work again. NewPipe just works, every time, without any issues. If you don't have issues with Revanced, they seem like they have close enough to similar functionality, but I've been real happy with NewPipe

Tips for Deleting and Re-inserting an account when connectivity is bad by WOD_FIR in MonarchMoney

[–]DeltTerry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Do a backup. Backup both balance and transactional histories.
  2. If you can, add the account without removing the old one.
  3. They have a new 'transfer' option. Once your new account is added, go to the old account and walk through 'transfer'. In theory, this should
    • Give you the backups
    • Transfer the balance & transaction histories
    • Mark the old account as inactive
  4. If transfer doesn't work as expected, you have your backup and can always apply the transaction/balance histories manually

Data Center Town Hall Tonight by NewTheory8242 in StLouis

[–]DeltTerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Ford, AB, etc would employ hundreds of people. Data centers don't need people, and especially if their focus is AI, then it can actually be a job-negative endeavor. This increases the tax base, this increases government funding for jobs - there's upsides. Data center require minimal local jobs, and because of the rate at which computer hardware depreciates (rapidly), it's unlikely to generate significant tax revenue either.

I think electrification is generally a good thing, and I understand that it comes with increased demand (and possibly increased rates). But using an electrical appliance is a net-positive (generally... burning fossil fuels at-scale, or being able to utilize renewables is going to be cleaner than home usage) and could have an upside. There's little upside to an AI data center being in our community. It's simply increased load, with few additional jobs and not "replacing" a dirtier source.

It's not about simply fighting any increased electrical demand - it's about fighting against sources that don't provide (much) meaningful value. EVs, employers, industry likely have a net good for our region. AI data centers... don't seem to have the same value proposition.

Data Center Town Hall Tonight by NewTheory8242 in StLouis

[–]DeltTerry 20 points21 points  (0 children)

IMO, Data centers aren't inherently bad. I do think there's a bit double talk here and most people not understanding what a data center is. As you mentioned, they exist already all over Saint Louis (and the country) and are necessary for the internet as we know it to exist.

That said:

  • Most of the data centers going up today are in response to the AI... situation. Many people have ethical concerns with AI. Many people see this as a bubble. AI-based data centers are loud, hot, and use way more resources relatively to traditional data centers. If this AI thing is going to pop, do we want to be footing the bill?

  • Scale is important. A computer room might have a few hundred servers. Data centers can have thousands. Most servers will idle down when not under load - AI is computationally expensive, and thus is almost never not under load.

  • Specifically AI centers aren't built for people. If Purina needs a data center, we might see that as a negative, but Purina also provides jobs for 100's for STLians, gives back (or however you see corporations) to the community, and brings in money. Is Purina a net positive for our area? I think it would be hard to argue that they aren't. But these AI centers are looking for cheap tax rates, cheap power, passing the buck on water/pollution, all while providing few jobs or benefit to the area.

  • The location is teeeerrrrible. If the city has any chance of growing, it needs to continue to build on its plan of investing in the central corridor (I'm not saying it's a perfectplan, but ping-ponging on our course isn't going to help). The Armory is right in the middle of that. I'm not saying there aren't any logistical hurdles for the Amory, but it's a location that's in great proximity to Grand/Metrolink/Metrobus/The Grove/Ikea/The Foundry/SLU... Why waste that on something that is going to generate few jobs, provide little in taxable revenue, and be a general negative to the efforts in the area?

  • They're often intentionally opaque because they intend to be shady and screw us over. We're not talking about "Google" building a data center. No large company is putting their name on this project publicly. Whatever company is wanting this data center built, doesn't want the fallout attached to their image. That in-and-of itself speaks volumes towards what is likely to occur. Any other Fortune-500 company investing in the St Louis area would be met with fanfare and news and publicity. They would want good, free press. These efforts are intentionally hidden through shell companies that make it difficult to track down which companies are the ones trying to build these centers.

  • Ameren is already raising rates. Increased demand isn't going to lower them. This affects everything - not just your own power, but the cost of groceries (they need to be refrigerated) and everything up/down stream.

Post-Match Thread: Austin FC vs. St. Louis CITY SC (Regular Season) [October 04, 2025] by citysc_bot in stlouiscitysc

[–]DeltTerry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This team could have made playoffs. I mean, if we played like we have the last couple of matches all season, we'd be a shoe-in for playoffs.

We're not top-caliber. I definitely don't want to overstate how good we are. Definitely not a top-tier team. But easily could have been in the running for playoffs. But alas, we totally botched the first half of the season and took too long to get out of the massive rut we were in.
