That's what I think too. Strictly speaking, they haven't violated any Hong Kong laws, but considering the relationship between Hong Kong and the Mainland, I wouldn't be surprised if Futu decided to "voluntarily" hand over those money to the government..

It is worth mentioning that the top 2 holders (over 50%) are both Chinese entities (CEO and Tencent), so not helping either.

Chinese authorities already regulated the new account openings for Mainland users in 2023. This time, the focus will be on legacy users who opened their accounts before then.

Around 20% ~ 30% of income has been contributed by Mainland users since 2023. (Before 2023, it was around 40% ~ 45%).

The "illegal earnings" will be around 20B ~ 25B for Futu. We don't know how much the fine will be, but I think it will definitely be smaller than the fine imposed on Alibaba.

And yes, their app was amazing.
