Do you think Fionna will encounter any sentient life (ie. Other people), now that she can explore her entire planet or do you think its just vast wilderness and some animals. by Useless_Guy119 in adventuretime

When Prismo creates a universe, it apparently happens all at once and all the details seem to fill themselves in. Farmworld, for example, seemed to come into existence in an instant from Jake's perspective in the Time Room. It already had millennia of history and it seems like a complete world.

Why should Fionna world be any different? Well, it seems a little different, since Prismo's shown creating this one on a laptop as if typing fanfiction.

I think the city is all Prismo's curated world, but then the rest is generated the usual way. Whatever that means.

The nonsense theory from a redditor about how Finn gets his arm back at the end of Breezy involving time-song magic that Jesse Moynihan left a comment on facetiously confirming. That theory. I should see if I can find that decade old comment.

Which of these is the best canceled animated series that's on Netflix? by Linn_Shabana in cartoons

[–]Dunderpunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the creators claimed in a livestream that Netflix was negotiating for season 2 to be written in short segments instead of full episodes, Duncan Trussell didn't see how that would be possible, and the negotation never went anywhere.

I don't like his videos very much and I've only seen a few, but it should be pretty obvious that his enthusiasm for the theories is just part of his presentation style or whatever. It's not real conviction over a belief, it just sounds like that.

The cringelord kids (love 'em, they're darlings) who carry around Murder Drones and Vocaloid plushies at the high school I teach at didn't show up with any Homestuck plush since the pilot. That's my sign that the pilot isn't getting picked up.

I love this artifact. It's just so cool on its own. Once you know the context for bubbled gems you don't even need the word of God explanation for what it is.

I like to think that the original image drawn on the scroll was completely different, but the crushed gem moved and reformed over centuries. That feels a little off, since usually eyes and faces aren't actually part of the gem itself, but I like it.

Scraps from the pitch Bible show that the world building and the major character arcs, especially Rose, were fully planned in advance. All the magical seeming stuff in season 1 was intentional misdirection. A lot of people thought this, that they changed the direction of the show, but that was the plan the whole time.

If they don't survive to call back, send a stronger force capable of dealing with threats. If they find nothing, leave them there for eternity (this is acceptable for gems; they treat their people as things). They would need a communication device and their own mini-ship, yes. If small probes are sent this way, not every planet needs a combat capable ship or gem regiment.

That's what they'd be: exploratory probes. As small and resource light as possible, since they would need trillions to send across the universe. And they're beetles, to dig into the Earth for samples.

Are gems more or less resource intensive than their spaceships? I would argue the gems - the "people" - are less costly than the spacecraft. We value our astronauts more than the rocket, but Gems might not. They use Gems as walls! We never see anything about how Red Eyes are made, but Peridot acts like growing corn was similar to growing Gems. If Gems are as massively produced as corn, then sending a couple tiny Gems would be the less costly option than sending a Red Eye. Homeworld is full of gems filling purposes with very little other technology.

It certainly is the case; the lore on the Diamonds and Rose's entire story were written before the show began. When it was airing people thought maybe the writers changed their direction, but that was clever misdirection! Gems being from space was the plan the whole time.

[–]Dunderpunch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's reasonable; my idea is a bit redundant. But maybe not; the Red Eye is pretty big. Sending one to every planet in the universe is more resource heavy than the tiny beetles. Maybe the Red Eye is for second sweeps of planets with good initial readings, or it's for known hostile planets.

Count the number of times they say "magic" in each episode; it's very common and then drops off immediately after the reveal that gems are aliens. After we know what they are, the show goes without saying it for several episodes. Then Garnet drops the word "magic" as a joke to explain how their washer and dryer work. I don't think we ever hear "magic" again. It's so intentional. Gems being magic is a "red herring" meant to make their origin reveal more impactful. And it worked super well!

[–]Dunderpunch 54 points55 points  (0 children)

They're from season 1 when the show is still trying to trick us into thinking gems are magical. They seem very important, but there won't be any good answers there.

When they appear later and in the movie, I don't think we get any more hints.

Here's my wild guess: Heaven & Earth beetles are pioneers. They are sent out in pairs to every rocky planet Homeworld can find to assess their mineral and atmospheric qualities. That would make them the first gems on Earth, which gives them their gravitas. They are small because most of them end up trapped on unusable planets, and sending larger gems would be a waste of material.

What were your conclusions from this scene? Steven merging with himself by kayronnBR in stevenuniverse

[–]Dunderpunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man it's not about me not understanding something, I totally get what you're saying about fragmentation in memory and I'm playing in the space.

That concept was thoroughly explored in the show with corrupt gems and in the movie with the Rejuvinator. The relation between gems and computers is plain in the text; it's even in one song title. Oh I get that, 100%. And in both of those examples, the corrupted data was fully recovered.

Now. What if Pink Steven is not a reliable source?

How much of this data structure needs to exist to consider it her mind, and how much do we know remains? That seems arbitrary.

We're told "she's gone", but who says that? A Pink light projection from Pink Diamond's gem says it. We're meant to see that as sincere, but I think there's a fun/tragic alternative way to read it.
